  1. Since the parts are now available I deleted all the extraneous stuff on this thread so people can get right to the answers / links.
  2. A decent summary of placer gold recovery methods with good illustrations. A good place to start for beginners so pinned here. 5mb pdf download, 29 pages with excellent references. The reference list on page 29 should be followed up on for more detailed information - Google is your friend. https://www.conservation.ca.gov/cgs/Documents/Publications/Special-Publications/SP_087.pdf CONTENTS INTRODUCTION 1 CONCENTRATION OF PLACER GOLD ORE 2 SMALL SCALE RECOVERY EQUIPMENT 2 Gold Pan 2 Rocker 3 Construction 3 Assembly 5 Operation 5 Sluices 6 Long Tom 7 Dip-Box 8 Shaking Tables 8 Portable Processing Equipment 10 Amalgamation 10 DRY PLACERS 10 Dry Washers 10 Air Tables (Oliver Gravity Separator) 11 MODERN RECOVERY EQUIPMENT 12 Pinched Sluice Systems 12 Spiral Concentrators 13 Rotating Spirals 15 Helixes 15 Jigs 16 Fine Material Separators 20 Bartles-Mozely Separator 20 Bartles CrossBelt Separator 21 Centrifugal Concentrators 21 Bowls 21 Knelson Concentrator 22 SUMMARY 22 OPERATING MINES 23 Hammonton Dredge 23 Hansen Brothers - Hugh Fisher 25 Bear River 26 Greenhorn Creek 26 TRI-R Engineering - Stinson Mine 27 SELECTED ANNOTATED REFERENCES 29 While this publication does a good job summarizing everything from the gold pan to some pretty sophisticated recovery devices, the one thing missing completely is the gold suction dredge. For that, see my article below on that subject: Suction Gold Dredge Basics
  3. Somebody needs to put a gold trap in their sand and gravel operation! I sold a book for years about outfits in California that did that. The Extraction of Free Gold by Al McGowen. Out of date now, even talked about using mercury, but it did describe how some sand and gravel operations incorporated gold recovery as a sweetener in their operations.
  4. OK, move was made to a new MySQL server, fingers crossed again that is the final fix. May not know until weeks go by without a crash though, so we will see.
  5. There are enough gold machines. Garrett needs a top contender for the big prize: coins, relics, jewelry, in water and out. Something a person in Virginia or Florida who will never look for nuggets ever will want and buy.
  6. That sums it up for me. They both perform. Yet they go about doing what they do in vastly different ways. If you think the concept of proprietary wireless coils is cool that’s a point for XP. If you prefer more coil options in the form of wired coils, point for Minelab. Then look hard at the manuals for how the various options are accessed, the menus, how the screen looks, etc. I find it hard to believe that if you accept that both will get the goodies, that most people will not have strong feelings about the various other aspects I mentioned. I totally get and respect why some people prefer the XP way of doing things. Personally, I prefer the Minelab way. It’s just personal preference thing in my opinion more than anything else. Anyone that can’t be successful with either option needs to work harder on their detecting skills. Yeah, I’m ignoring the 900. For me it’s D2 or Manticore.

  8. Sometimes those that know nothing have nothing to say. Just a reminder Gerry and I are gold guys mostly, there might be others out there in Garrett land far more in tune with this type of product, and more importantly, with big YouTube follows, more likely than a couple backwater hicks from Alaska and Idaho. I think you are overestimating what is going to happen on the 18th. Garrett most likely will just be revealing what this new detector will look like and have for features. It probably is not actually done and will still be getting tested and will not be available to actually get your hands on until later. Testers may not be able to say anything at all unless specifically invited to as part of this unveiling. My expectation is we simply learn more about the detector itself from Steve Novakovich and Steve Moore but that's about it. Like it says in the poster, it's a product launch. Relax, kick up your feet, and enjoy the show. Maybe you will be able to buy one Tuesday but I'll bet you can't get one, just maybe preorder one. It baffles me to this day why anyone would ever give a dealer money for anything until they actually get the product and have it available in stock. Is it that important to be first in line? My advice to anyone is wait until people have them in stock to order. Or get on a free notification list maybe. But give money to somebody for something they don't have yet, and don't really know when they will get it? Take a pass. Garrett did a similar Axiom announcement livestream with the bigwigs on July 26, 2022. The Axiom detectors actually shipped to dealers in mid-November of that same year. Let history be your guide. 9. That's probably me messing with the update of all this from Storm to Vortex and changing a couple of the threads to match the new information. And now just moved a bunch of Axiom and Vortex threads to new locations. The search index has to catch up though most of it is seamless. Really right now all I am concerned about is outright crashes. Everything has narrowed down to a possible issue with the shared server setup so Pair will be moving me to a different one soon in a bid to eliminate the crashes. I'm betting newer hardware. I still have a couple tricks up the sleeve after that if it does not work, but I'm pretty confident it will. Fingers crossed, as right now the forum has been running faster and smoother than ever since the memory upgrade. I did look through the files and deleted over 500MB that was concentrated in some huge pdf uploads, a few video uploads, and a few very large photo uploads. Please try folks to be cognizent of file size, and if over 10MB try and optimize the size. In the case of large pdf books it's always better to link to the file rather than upload it here. Thanks.
  10. Garrett runs a tight ship. Those that know don't talk and those that talk don't know.
  11. I should have done this one sooner. Six pages of posts need moving, tedious at best, and in fact I'm still working on it. But thought I may as well point you at the new forum now. Enjoy! https://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/67-garrett-axiom-forum/

  15. You are a full member, so proceed. Amazing to me we just had a new member join and since they could not post here, posted a rock in the meet & greet. Either testing me or really bad luck on their part, post deleted and them banned. I honestly can’t get up too much sympathy for people who do not investigate forums a bit before joining.
  16. It’s simple. The rod is highly conductive. In the course of banging coils around in rocks and stumps, forcing them into tight places, scrubbing the ground, the coil moves in relation to the rod and generates false signals. The mere presence of the rod moves the null point and causes hot rocks to sound that would not otherwise. Laying the coil flat as lots of us do for various reasons like pinpointing nuggets and to get under a bush, etc, causes false signals. If you were here I would take you out and show you. I’m not going to waste my time shooting video so you can either take my word for all that or not. That’s it. I don’t know how to be any clearer. Black and white thinking is being exhibited by many in this thread as insisting things must be a problem for everybody or a problem for nobody. Not saying you just saying things can be two things at once. Not a problem for most while still a problem for others.
  17. Just curious. Why is it important to you to try to disprove an issue we are having and know is real? You math does not override our reality. Did you even watch Carls' video? Has it not come to your attention a rod is being made now to address what you do not think exists as a problem? Yes, it generates false signals in normal use as has been explained already. Waving over the coil was just to illustrate conductivity, nothing more. I genuinely do not get it - why would a guy in England be telling us nugget hunters in what is and is not real in our experience? Or anyone for that matter? I get it, it's not a problem for most people. Great. But why is it a problem for anyone that an issue might exist for some users? That's the part that seems weird to me. Pinpointers are useless for small gold. We actually know what we are doing.
  18. Maybe Garrett will have a line of logo Vortex shirts, hats etc so you will be even spiffier.
  19. I always thought the noise cancel was too fast. Do it six times in a row, get six different results. Frankly I prefer a manual option but this hopefully helps. They stopped with 600/800 updates so I guess a benefit of the newer models is restarting the update clock.
  20. I never said anything about this detector weighing 4 lbs. I was discussing rod configurations and the ergonomics behind them. All the big gun prospecting detectors until very recently were all over 4 lbs and almost all used straight shafts, well before it became common in coin and relic designs. s rod was the norm there until the pod on a stick came along, and now that’s practically a fad. Lighter is not always better. Balance matters and despite what XP fans think, an unbalanced nose heavy design is not optimal. The Deus only works well with small coils, the larger the coil, the more obvious the lack of balance is. It’s a fact whether people want to believe it or not, that slightly more weight that results in perfect balance is actually less strain on your arm. Take any nose heavy detector, put a counterbalancing weight under the elbow, and you can immediately prove this as true. Depth is not held up as the only determination of performance. Most knowledgeable detectorists count separation also. But it depends on the application. If relic hunting a bed of nails depth really does not matter, it’s all about separation. If hunting a 10 oz gold nugget in the open, all that matters is sheer depth.
  21. Better than yellow is all I can say. If it outperforms every detector out there it can be hot pink and you will buy one Chuck. Anyone remember the F19 Pink Camo?
  22. I'd lay money it's the whole detector so you are out of luck Chuck. But if there are multiple models maybe there will be multiple colors?
