  1. @Steve Herschbach are you still using this setup? Did you bend it around the edges or keep it flush with the outside of the coil?
  2. Would 1/8th plastic be too thick or should I go the next size down which is roughly 1/16th?
  3. Do you keep the stock skid plate on it? I’m trying to find one in the US right now but can’t at the moment. Might try my luck at making one.
  4. I’m going to try to make one with ABS sheet plastic and bend it with a heat gun to get an edge around it. I was out this weekend in some stubble from a freshly cut wheat field and was losing a few inches due to it. I don’t care about a little extra weight. Honestly I wish someone would come out with a solid closed coil.
  5. You were right. There’s both are DD. They have a coiltek 14 inch elite DD that’s tan. And a coiltek 14 inch goldstalker DD the same tan color. I didn’t know if there was any difference in wiring. But as far as coils go I have a set of DDs I use for relics and a set of monos I am using for prospecting. I have a coiltek 14 DD goldstalker, 15x12 DD commander (second hand only used once on a paid hunt and sold the machine), 11 DD commander(second hand great condition), and 10x5 commander DD that is brand new that came with my other machine. The monos I have are the 11 ultra sensing detech, the 11 commander and the 15x12 commander mono that came with the second hand 5000 I recently got. I sold my 4000 to a friend of mine. He’s only got the stock 11 DD and I told him I’d let him borrow one of the larger DDs when we go out for relics or one of monos when we do some prospecting.
  6. I rarely turn the equinox sensitivity above 20 unless I’m hunting a spot that’s been beat up and slow down the recovery speed. Even then I find that it runs more stable and gets better depth at 20. When in an iron patch I’ll turn it down to 18 sometimes less. But with the VDI only going to 40 on the Nox. It will get less jumpy VDI than a machine with a larger scale.
  7. The killer Bs seem similar to the sun ray holds on how they operate.
  8. I settled on some killer Bs hornets with the volume adjustments on both sides and push button limiter. They are 150 ohms. The RPGs are 32 ohms.
  9. Looking for recommendations for headphones for relic hunting and prospecting. I had a Minelab Koss with my 4000 but they went with it. Currently all I have is a set of Minelab RPGs that I had as a backup pair. Thoughts on a good pair?
  10. I’m about to order a backup coil for the GPX. Torn between getting a used once 15x12 DD commander for 200 or getting a Coiltek 14 Elite DD at retail. I’d like to try both and keep one as a backup. I already have a basically brand new 15x12 commander DD.
  11. Besides very old Native American stone tools, worked glass, and a mica cut out associated with the mound builders. I live near a lot of old native settlement sites. We also have a lot of colonial sites here. I’ve found copper kettle points. Copper that was cut to make arrow heads. Quite a bit of Spanish silver. Cuts and wholes. Some just pounded or sanded flat. 1773 Virginia half penny. A cut silver dates back to 1730. Lots of buttons from the 1700s. A lot of these sites overlap with Native American sites.
  12. I’ve seen the cables that come to the houses here. It’s a small fiber with a small copper wire attached for locating when it needs to be marked. The main lines are in a 1 1/4 orange pipe right along the road ditches. They have recently come down into the rural area in my area along some of the roads where I hunt. I was hoping to not get any interference. Under ground Power lines, and phone lines are a pain. As well as electric fences. Believe it or not the fences are more of a pain than anything else. But all can vary day to day.
  13. That’s a good idea. I figured I could do something like that. I have a heat gun for bending plastic electrical conduit. I’m sure I could get one to fit pretty well. Thanks
  14. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I’ve never really had a coil without a skid plate. Except maybe the older whites machines. I was just curious I wasn’t sure if people took them off for a reason or if some of the older coils never had one. But I’ll let you know about the cool ASAP. My dad still swings the old whites for relics. I haven’t asked him about it. They still do well if you if you know how to run and listen to the machine.
  15. Does anyone know if fiber optic cables put off EMI that will interfere with most detectors?
  16. How fragile do you think it is without a coil cover? Did someone take it off to make it more sensitive or deeper?
  17. I was talking about the skid plate or coil cover. I was trying to find one that might fit it.
  18. Was the one that came on it black? I might be interested
  19. Yeah it’s a 6.59 frequency. Same plug. What’s the bottom of the coil look like?
  20. What size is the hot head? 12? I have a whites blue and grey that I use for relics. Would it work well on that?
  21. There are some nuggets that came from Virginia that ended up in the Smithsonian. One the size of softball.
  22. Do you think the Iron reject is deeper with the Spiral DD?
