  1. 60 tones are fine for some types of hunting. I liked it for relic hunting. I did not like 60 tones very much for hunting in thick aluminum and steel modern trashed parks, just too much information. People who do hunt in 60 tones, like the Equinox, you won't get all 60 unless you accept all 60 target IDs in your discrimination pattern.
  2. I agree about the crown bottle caps and how well Ferro Check works. Calabash Digger does not. Check out my rebuttal to his latest Legend bashing videos over on Friendly under Detectors and Gear/all about detectors/Calabash bashes the Legend again. I still have plenty to learn about the Legend. Why people make YouTube videos when they can't operate the detector according to the manual and then complain about how bad it is..........its beyond my meager comprehension.
  3. All target bins using 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 tones can have each bin’s tone volume and tone pitch adjusted individually. Using a single frequency on alloyed steel targets will force the detector to try and pick a single tone response. Using multi frequency will allow the detector to give more than one tone/ID response if it gets a good look at the steel alloy target. The audio can be broken up with a bit of space in between ferrous and non-ferrous responses as the Legend tries to give multiple accurate responses of those alloys of steel. Those are audio “tells” which can be very helpful identification tools with experience.
  4. I haven’t been able to load 1.07 yet so I am not a good source. What is the volume level of the iron tone in 1.07? In my house where there is plenty of EMI, in Park M1 using the all metals target IDs accepted (A) discrimination pattern, I can wave some modern washers and screws over the 11” coil and get non-ferrous and ferrous target IDs that are all over the place and almost sound like the EMI background noise. They are steel alloys and that doesn’t surprise me much. Other washers and steel tent stakes give fairly consistent iron responses.
  5. After 5 weeks using the Legend for mostly US modern coins and a bit of relic hunting, I have been pleasantly surprised with the extra 10 target IDs that the Legend has which separates it from its main competition (Equinox). What pleasantly surprised me most was that Nokta Makro had the good sense at least for me, to put those extra 10 target IDs in the low to mid non-ferrous conductor range. These observations are coming from in the field use of the Legend in moderate to highly iron mineralized dirt on surface to 8" or so deep targets, not from air testing. So, on the Legend target ID 11 to target ID 24 encompasses tiny foil up to the older square tabs. US Nickels are usually a very percussive and obvious 25/26, with normal modern oval pull tabs usually coming in at 26 to 30 with more elongated audio responses than US nickels or gold rings. Beaver tails start at 30 or so and can go up to 37 along with larger pull tabs and can slaw. Zinc pennies if they are in decent shape will usually hit hard at 40 to 42. If they are heavily corroded the spread gets much bigger and can be from 36 to almost 50 until the coil is centered over them. US clad dimes have been consistently 44 to 46 for me, copper pennies have been 46 to 48 and US quarters have been 49 to 52. So that is a full 30 segments of low to mid conductor targets IDs which so far have been very predictable and dependable compared to the 20 target Id segments for the same targets on the Equinox. I have found small womens gold earrings and rings (2 grams and under) in the 12 to 20 range. Some very rusty steel crown bottle caps make a great sound at 19/20 and fool the Ferro Check meter somewhat depending on ground mineralization. At least the 19/20 spot on the target ID range is not shared by a US coin. Another outstanding detector shares the US quarter target ID slot with crown bottle caps of all kinds and condition which is really annoying. So basically the Legend has 10 target IDs for iron, 30 target IDs for low to mid conductor non-ferrous (up to US zinc pennies) and 20 target IDs for US clad coins and high conductors. Speaking of steel crown bottle caps, contrary to a recently produced Youtube video which discussed crown bottle cap recognition and masking, aside from the already mentioned 19/20 rusty crown bottle caps that I have encountered, most crown bottle caps in really good shape will be obvious iron targets in the Ferro Check meter with the meter swinging wildly between mostly all ferrous to mostly all non-ferrous during coil sweeps. They will give a really distinctive mixed tonal and ID response that includes tones and IDs in the low 50s that alternate with iron tones (if you accept part of the iron range) if they aren't covered with foil like the Modelo crown bottle caps. Those will give iron range, aluminum range 30s and low 50s target responses that really sound wild. Those crown bottle cap responses can also sound a bit similar to coin spills so a moment of investigation is a good idea if the target responses are fairly shallow. I am still totally enjoying the Legend. I have not strayed too much from Park M1 using a 6 tone audio setup that lets me know immediately what the conductivity of each target is along with a good idea of size, depth and shape if the targets are roughly coin sized. Aside from still not being able to update to 1.07 due to who knows what..... I still really like the Legend.
  6. I personally have never detected this site before until recently. I do not know its detecting history. Much of the original site has been paved over. Only the front of the building still has its basically original lawn. Judging from the older finds I have made so far, the current older coin "level" in undisturbed areas of the lawn is at 8"+ deep.
  7. I don't have a Legend 6" coil so I can't say how it feels when swinging it and if there is an ergonomics reason for making those centering contraptions. In the past, Nokta Makro like First Texas and even some Minelab smaller coils, has put their coil connection point on smaller coils nearer to the rear of the coil. For me, if I was gold prospecting with a small coil like the Legend 6" I would appreciate the slightly larger area on top of the coil for sweeping my plastic scoop or hand over it created by the offset. Using other detector's 5 to 6" coils with a center mount, I basically have to flip the coil over and just use the bottom of the coil since there isn't a lot of room for sweeping a scoop or my hand on top of the coil.
  8. I haven’t decided anything definite about which frequency/SMF is better on the Legend. I will use Multi whenever I have the chance so far, but I will do more testing for sure. I am not saying for one second that 4kHz or any other single frequency or mode is better or worse and that one in particular isn’t very good. I just wanted to see what the difference would be between 4kHz and M1 in high iron mineralization.
  9. I hunted a Denver Public School site last Sunday after struggling with loading the 1.06 software and failing (that was a blessing!). So I was a bit frustrated and the hunt with my Legend in Park M1 with ground discrimination setting at the 1923 school site didn't go much better with 25 mph winds and a measly .81 cents (all post 1982 US coins) and some old disconnected brass sprinkler system parts after 1.5 hours. Nothing deep and pretty disappointing. When I got home I tried to load the update again and it failed again and then I noticed my Legend sounded weird. I looked carefully and noticed I had been hunting in 4kHz instead of M1 at the old school site. The wind had been blowing so hard that I just didn't notice I was in the wrong frequency. That got me wondering. So I went back to the same site today, (Easter Sunday) and hunted the exact same ground and I mean the exact same ground for 1.5 hours and came back with all of this stuff. I really was hunting in Park M1 this time for sure. I am still using 1.05 too by the way. The two wheat pennies and the copper decorative whatever it is (part of a door knob assembly?) were deep= 9 to 10 " and sounded very good. Most of the rest of the targets were in the 3 to 6" range. I consider every find on this plate to be a quality target. All of them had excellent, repeatable target IDs and were no brainer, dig me targets. How I missed them in 4 kHz................. Look very carefully at that plate of targets. 38 mid to high conductor targets that could have easily been silver coins that 4kHz should have absolutely screamed on IN THEORY. High iron mineralization throws that theory out the window and into the 25mph wind. Hunting in simultaneous multi frequency Park M1 mode with ground discrimination setting changed everything and let me also find 11 low conductor non-ferrous targets (nickels and aluminum) that could have easily been gold jewelry. The only ferrous target on that plate and the only one I dug is what the key is attached to. There were hundreds of iron targets under my coil by the way judging from the audio responses. Also, this being Denver, I was digging with a screwdriver so I left lots of deep, potential high conductor targets in the ground for a later trip. So, I hear from some people how there is no difference between single frequency and simultaneous multi frequency on this and other forums quite often. In my dirt there is a huge difference.
  10. The Legend version 1.07 software update is ready for download and updating. I haven't tried it yet. I will tonight. There are reports coming in that it loaded smoothly so far with no "device not connected" notices during the update procedure. Good Luck! https://www.noktadetectors.com/metal-detector/the-legend/
  11. The power On/Off button is also the Settings button. That button is just to the right of the Pinpoint/Accept Reject button. The Pinpoint button is held down during pinpointing. The On/Off/Settings button is also just below the Ground Balance button. All three buttons are big and I have pressed the Ground Balance button several times when I meant to press the On/Off/Settings button and vice versa multiple times.............. I don't want the On/Off/Settings button to be the only reset button just for this reason.
  12. One of my sons is a General Motors engine mechanic. He has told me and anyone that will listen, to not buy a new car until the chip/part supply issues and the workforce issues have been stabilized. Every company that has to produce electronics including metal detector companies are dealing with micro chip outsourcing supply unless they actually make their own micro chips. Another metal detecting company said in a Facebook video that they had to install chips that had slightly different tolerances but that were within spec just to meet production.............That would be a software engineering nightmare.
  13. I have read several requests for a full reset button on this and other sites. I would prefer a simultaneous 2 button press for a full reset if possible. I am still pressing the wrong buttons frequently during operation and I would hate to press the wrong button and reset everything on the Legend accidentally.
  14. Undiscriminated VCO audio is just going to sound off on any target it can hit with no audio discrimination besides audio intensity based on signal strength. So whether the target is ferrous, coke, a non-ferrous target, or a non-ferrous target that also has ferrous responses, it will all sound mostly the same using VCO audio. If the target is detected well enough it might throw out a decent target ID on Deus 2, the Legend or Equinox. Usually on targets that deep, audio responses are about it other than something like 00/99/-- on Deus 2, 60/1 or-- on the Legend and -9/40/-- on the Equinox. I don't think for one moment that Sid was being biased in that video. It just seemed pretty unplanned/off the cuff all in one cut and he just went with it without fully thinking it through.
  15. Yep, I have never had much luck with FBS detectors in mineralized ground even on higher conductive targets.
  16. I am just a nobody that sometimes says really stupid stuff. Then I get behind a detector and just see what it can do. So far, easily the deepest mode in the places I hunt are the Gold modes on the Equinox, especially if they are run with as little discrimination as possible since the Equinox is known for sometimes responding with ferrous responses on really deep targets that are just beyond the edge of detection. Sid ran the Equinox on the deepest half penny target in Field 1 (I think) with the iron range rejected so at least half of the possible responses were rejected. Had he used one of the Gold modes in Multi with nothing rejected, I am fairly confident that the Equinox would have had very good VCO audio responses. I have not done much Goldfield testing with the Legend. It does give the best responses on edge of detection targets in its VCO Goldfield when the other modes struggle from the little experience that I have so far. Considering how well it did on the deepest target using Field mode with the iron range accepted (unlike the Equinox), I have little doubt that it would have had little trouble with that target in VCO Goldfield with no discrimination. The same has worked on Deus 1 and the ORX with the Gold modes being noticably deeper on borderline targets. Adding SMF to the Deus 2 Gold mode and creating the Relic mode make for what would appear to be two very deep modes and at least in Sid's test, by far the deepest on Deus 2 for that target at that depth.
  17. I am going to assume that this quote is referring to Beach Sensitive. I am one of the idiots that said at least on paper, Beach Sensitive is like having a gold prospecting mode for a saltwater beach. Since I have never used a Deus 2 let alone Beach Sensitive at a gold prospecting site or Beach Sensitive at a saltwater beach on sub .1 gram nuggets............I have no clue except that I assume that the salt ground balance values for the frequencies used are going to seriously effect tiny gold nugget detection in the sub .1 gram range or any target that has a VDI near the salt ground balance values
  18. I personally like all of Sid's videos....always have. So, it has nothing to do with my own personal reasons. It's simple. Either Sid is not comfortable enough with the Equinox Gold modes and the Legend Goldfield mode to use them in the video or it was an oversight. Either way it is no big deal. Another very good UK Youtube creator did a similar thing when he used his ORX in Coin Fast vs Deus ll in Relic mode in a 30 minute wild hunt video. It was a joke basically and many people gave him grief for making the ORX (which many of his viewers had purchased because of his recommendations) look so bad when all he had to do was put the ORX in Gold 1........... He had to do verbal back flips for several weeks and finally just said he was simply using the ORX in the mode he knew and wasn't really doing a comparison........very telling statement. Either one basically knows their detector or they don't. The follow up to that is why is this person making a depth comparison video??????? I just continue to want to see a head to head VCO vs VCO vs VCO video between these detectors if one is interested in overall raw depth. That would teach me and anyone else who wants to know, how to use those modes in real world relic situations and how they stack up. I can do the Legend vs Equinox VCO comparisons myself......don't have a complete Deus 2 Lite yet.
  19. Rick, have you adjusted the volume on the stock BT headphones. I had to work with it to get the volume just right for me......and then when the wind blows hard (when does it not blow here) I have to reset the headphone volume a bit. Glad you got a Legend. It seems like it will be great for fresh water lake hunting.
  20. Now for a few less positive aspects of my impressions of the Legend. Most of these are my own personal issues and not a fault of the Legend. My main issue is the onboard pinpoint feature. The Legend running 1.05 in heavily iron and/or aluminum trashed sites or in higher mineralization needs to have the coil really centered over the target both for the best IDs and for pinpointing with the onboard pinpointer. This may be related to the iron bias fixed setting.............The Legend seems to have outstanding target separation otherwise (the amount of coin spills me and the Legend have located in a month is staggering) so...........I have had some difficulty locating targets in trashy areas after pinpointing them. I mean, I get a good stable target ID on a deeper 4 to 6" coin sized target, pinpoint it with the Legend's onboard pinpointer and then struggle to find the target in areas where I have to use screwdriver/coin popping recovery techniques due to digging restrictions. Often the Legend will pinpoint the target as under the coil nut but the actual target is 2 to 3" away from that spot laterally. So, this may just be me. I do have a little trouble seeing the pinpointing meter when it is totally full indicating the coil nut is over the target. Also, this whole issue maybe Bluetooth related since I have yet to detect with the Legend using the external speaker or with other forms of headphone connection in the field. I guess I need a pair of prescription bifocal sunglasses. I have trouble seeing many things on the Legend display. That goes for several other higher end detectors too so again, not the Legend's fault. My next most pressing "issue" is trusting the user profile function. The Legend's 16 user profile slots (four for each of the four search modes) are very generous in number but they are fairly hard for me to navigate. I need a magnifier to make sure that I have done everything correctly. Nokta Makro, don't change anything just because I have a hard time seeing something. That is not what I am asking. I am just saying I can't see the vast majority of the smaller details on the screen very well. I have set up saved user profile 1s for Park, Field and Goldfield successfully and they work well. I am just afraid I will press the wrong button and lose the profile since I can barely see the checkmark on the user profile file icon in the settings menu........ Which brings me to my next thing. Right now, I would be afraid to have a full system reset function unless it required more than one button to activate it. I am constantly pressing the wrong buttons even after using the Legend for a month. That is not Nokta Makro's fault. I need to learn the detector. Having a one button push reset.........I know I would press it accidentally. Otherwise, I really like how the Legend detects, its other ergonomics and the build quality. Please feel free to comment in this thread. I am not going to nit pick your posts or comments other than to support you while we learn this detector together.
  21. A few "relics" (not really) from a ranch house site that was torn down in the early 1960s. 1968 Zippo lighter and some other pre-1960s targets. Very mineralized ground and lots of more modern and square nails. The wind was blowing a steady 25-30 mph. I could barely hear the Legend (not its fault!) even with headphones on.
  22. I have been using my Legend WHP for a month now with 14 less than 2 hour hunts. I have found two gold rings, one gold earring, two silver rings, a dozen pieces of bling jewelry, a Mercury dime, Roosevelt silver dime, five wheat pennies, and $103.45 in US clad. So almost $150 in melt value gold and silver plus the US clad, my Legend is approaching half paid for in one month of fairly short hunts since I am still nursing a bad ankle. The only “issue” I have had with the Legend is 4 hours of unsuccessful attempts to update the 1.06 software. Looks like that was actually a good thing considering that 1.06 was pulled, aside from the loss of 4 hours that I could have been hunting. The Legend has been a pleasant surprise to say the least.
  23. That is a little cavity lined with quartz crystals. That can happen quite often in flint, chert, chalcedony and agate since they are cryptocrystalline forms of quartz. Any crack, crevice or cavity within those varieties of quartz can make enough room for secondary deposits of quartz along with other minerals including gold to form crystals.
  24. I have been purposely looking for kettle points and trade points at several 19th century "Indian War" sites. The native Americans that used them were very keen on collecting and reusing them and did not leave them on battlefields or hunting sites if at all possible. Great Find!!!!!!
