Wow 25! Glad you figured out the cellphone thing :)

Maybe my son and I could come with you if you want company :). The family wants to try living and working in NZ after I earn my masters.

In a conversation with CDV he told me that a friend could use wired headphones and the factory supplied wireless headphones without one turning off the other. So I decided to try this with the WM08 instead with my son this afternoon to try and coach him as he was swinging! It worked GREAT. He did need some relief as the grip was a bit, as he put it "weird", and I swung for a while. Logan's second target was his first IHC! It was a fun afternoon and we both took some keepers home from a 1909 home with a tiny front yard. The owners were awesome and really into what I was doing. I tried to give him some of the stuff that he really seemed jazzed about, but he refused to take it. He used to be a troop leader and I was sure he was going to take the vintage cub scout button (keep finding cool buttons at 8). I am starting to feel very confident in how I have my machine setup for my hunts. Cool stuff is found all over the VID and I am just digging anything that has some depth (Still have a bone to pick with the loss of adjustable volume gain and inaccurate meter) AND it locks in hard. Logan really took to the 50 tones quick, quicker than I did, but is having a hard time visualizing where the target is under the coil. I know it will come with time and look forward to more of this great weather we had today in North East Ohio. Thanks for looking and here are some pictures! If you want to know what the VID was for any of this just ask. The land marker was something that the owner was excited to share and I thought it was a cool piece of Americana. When doing marker surveying of the Ravenna arsenal he came across one marker that had been broken and displaced when a channel was dug and he got permission to take it. Way cool! Logan's First IHC

Wow, I just looked up the WM08 for a second one for my son and I to hunt until I can cut him loose when he is comfortable. It is frigging 29% of the MSRP of the 800! Hard pass :) Excited to see some people out there with the 6" and see what kind of depth it offers!

Using my phone's samsung 2A it takes me 4 hours before it stops flashing. I worked it down to 1 bar before charging it.

I had a buddy tell me he wanted it to be able to be shorter for storage and I believe he said the Anderson was considerably shorter.

Out of the box you power it on and in all modes GB is 0 and it will not track. Each time you switch a mode you will have to set it again. GB is not a global setting.

I am not used to cam-locking mechanisms and I isolated the "spongy" feel to that location. The Etrac didn't do it either and it has been a few year, but I don't think it was a cam-lock. Not a complaint, just a statement of what I am experiencing. A nice thing I noticed, is I don't think that this mechanism will wear out nearly as quickly as the ones on the Etrac and 3030 did for me.

In the directions it says you should pump to do the GB. It also makes mention in particularly difficult ground you can auto balance and swing left to right. I have have had success with my machine in mixed farm soil types up here in NE Ohio running tracking. Both manual and Auto GB are a one time set and run. Tracking is continuously adjusting to the ground. I imagine that some experimentation will be required to find out what works best for your ground!

I use the garrett carrot and like it a lot and would recommend it fully. I recently purchased a second pointer to go snorkeling with and for something for my son to use since we have two minelabs now! It is called the land or sea pinpointer. I have only taken it on one hunt, but it works in a similar fashion to the carrot and it is a PI pointer. It did really well on the small targets that the equinox is finding. One feature that I didn't think I would use until I started using it, is a small red LED on the side that pulses when you are close to a target. This was nice for when I had the headphones in and I could not hear or feel the small blip when I would get near a target. I would see a little flash of red and I knew that was where I needed to go deeper with the digger. I think it will be a welcomed addition and cant wait to go see what I can find under the floating platforms out at the lake with it! I got mine from Keith at Ft. Bedford Detectors and it was priced a good bit below the Garrett counterparts.

Are you hooked on park hunting yet? It is my favorite thing when I am on a nasty dry streak on permissions; go to a park. Here is a hunt with my 3030 a week before the 800 came in. It will probably still be my favorite slump busting machine for park hunts! :) 15 wheat 1 IHC and 1 buff. The wheat on the left are 16, 16, 11 no mint mark.

There is no mark on it Duke. I do think it is a bit light weight if it is silver though. However the link that was on it was copper and pretty far gone and brittle. I would say since it was only 5" at that farm it was probably from the 60's or 70's. I have had a test kit in my cart on amazon for a while :) I should probably pull the trigger already! I was wondering about this. Mine has a spongy feeling, I wouldn't call it excessive flex but it doesnt feel as sturdy as my 3030. I just thought it was because the bottom shat hung out so far and was narrower. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!

From the 3030? Not really, but man i am hearing so many more targets! From the first time i started using it out of the box? Absolutely! Getting over my trust issues and setting it up better for my ground has made a huge difference. I had a blast today! Nothing silver or gold, but i learned and had fun.

I went to a farm that has given a good number of silver and wheat from one specific area in the yard that is about 60x80 feet. Not a very big area, but very productive. I have hunted it in grids from north to south, south to north, east to west, then west to east, and of course diagonally. I took the 800 out to this spot and used the settings from my last hunt: 3 Fe bias, 4 recovery, park 2, 50 tone, 18 volume, all metal, 6 threshold, and had the Fe volume up 2 notches from stock. In three hours I pulled 4 wheat and some really cool relics for your inspection. The large copper-brass looking thing was an orthotic from "The Arrowsmith Mfg. Co. Inc." found at 14". I had to take a picture of the wheat I recovered with a big nail about 1/2" directly below it, I pulled the wheat out and the pointer was still going. I thought it was going to be a spill not a big nail! I am still sad that the depth gauge is so wonky, I may try to reach out to minelab about it. Until the depth gauge works better on cents and dimes or they put adjustable volume gain I do not think it will replace my CTX for trashy park hunts as I discriminate by depth since there are so many screw tops in the best parks in North East Ohio. Wow Cliff! On an open hoop too! I think the reasoning behind setting GB then setting it to tracking was so that tracking had a starting point closer to what it would be running at is all. I am not sure about the 5 over though :)

Wow! Edit: I just looked for them on amazon and they are set to unavailable. I see them for sale elsewhere, but it makes me wonder if the word spreads like wildfire if the manufacturer will jack up the price or stop the sale of it.

I have to agree with Cabin and Cal. While Multi is a great tool to have, cycling through frequencies can be a great tool too. I cannot use multi in my front yard, but 10khz works like a champ! Good luck and I look forward to your next hunt results!

Never said it was a good idea for most. Many poo poo the way I hunted with the CTX in a park to begin with so they probably wont like the way I like intend to setup the 800 to hunt in a park. I do not want all my targets screaming at me. I understand that there is fear that something deep will be missed if the machine isn't screaming. It is what drove me to have the machine at 24 the entire first hunt out, the same drive that still has me digging iffy signals only to find a nail. As for turning off the high beams, I did see a difference right away. I cant remember what made me turn it down, but I had a deep repeatable signal and I think I wanted to see if I could get the volume on this target to decrease. What happened was surprising, the VID became more stable and the iron grunts I got around the good target (I hunt in all metal with fe volume a little up from stock) reduced in number. It was a striking difference, so much so that I felt the need to make a post about it in my second hunt posting. You are right there though, uncertainty that they are pumping out enough power will drive the notching up of the sensitivity to the edge of stability. Can't tell you any other way to learn what you need for your detector in your area other than to take it out and fiddle with it. I strongly urge anyone that is willing to try, to take a (suspected) deep coin and reduce sensitivity until they hear volume change a little bit on it and make a note of what the sensitivity is at. Then dig the target and see what they had at what depth. If it is a copper cent at 8" that is a good point to start at as they are less responsive than a dime. So I turn your question to you, I would enjoy hearing some of your ideas how to overcome this lack of "feedback loop"? The more ideas I can try the better.

Well that depends greatly on the soil saturation, ferrous trash, and if i have high organic material or high mineral content. 16 was hitting wheats at 7-8" on a farm with high organic content, high fe trash density, and high water saturation. When it dries out i will likely have to bump it up. I have yet to take it to one of my favorite parks, but in order to learn i will probably find a target that i like with my ctx and mess with settings on the 800. This way i am confident in my settings using a target in situ to set them up.
