  1. John if you go read my other post you will have the answer. How many ways you can spell Crap? Chuck
  2. What will be told to you when nugget hunting is in some ground you got to back off on your sensitivity. You may loose some depth but your detector will run smoother Oh it not going detect as deep but what is there you can hear it. I had told myself no more testing but I'll try one thing tomorrow. I feel if you push your signal too hot going in the ground it will reflect back at you. I know if I turn down the sen from 9 to 4 are 5 the detector settles down and just maybe still get fair depth by doing this. I know my old Eagle 2 runs so smooth with the sen set at 4 than if I push it higher. Yet i'm getting coins at 4 to 6 inches without trouble in the same soil I've been testing the MXS . If it can't detect a penny at 4 inches then it's got to be the detector.. Till then. Chuck
  3. Hey Gambler What was sensitivity setting did you have on your MXS ? On my other post I ran my MXS like Tom wanted and that was the sen set at 9. I know on my Eagle 2 if I get past 4 it just won't run smooth. I have at times turn up the sensitivity to 5 but have to turn it back to 4. It just better when I do. Today I never turn it back to 4 but maybe I should have. The thing is when i couldn't detect a penny at 4 inches I had all I wanted of my MXS. Chuck
  4. Gambler It's good to see you are happy with the MX Sport. If I could get the same depth I too would be happy but that's not the case.I hope another detector will be what I've been looking for all along. I think this is odd. I received the MXS from White's double box. Then I sent it back to get fixed and it went double box. When I got it back it was just in one box with the coil loose and no packing at all. Chuck
  5. All know I've been running some air test on my MX Sport. Like I said I'd did get out in the country today for more test in sandy soil. The first thing I done was put 3 pennies at 4.6. And 8 inches in the ground. I made sure all lay flat at the bottom of the hole before filling it in.Tom wanted me to run the sensitivity at 9. I ground balance and lock it at 63. I was in the coin and jewelry program with the tone at 4. The coin and jewelry program was like it's set as it comes from the factory. I was going to start my testing but the cursor as I would swing the coil was jumping all over the place. The detector had the same trouble as before when you run the sen. up to 9. The only way I could run it like that was to put discrimination just under where nickel comes in. This didn't make it a lot better but it did help cut down on the noise . Now I hit the first coin at 4 inches and got nothing. The 6 and 8 nothing. The pennies are 2016 and I had one of them left. I drop it on the ground and got a good signal at 2 inches. Then at 3 inches would get a hit one way but not the other. Beyond that nothing. Now I started my air test. I put the detector on the ground with a board marked in inches . The first was that same penny and i could detect it at 7 1/2 but at the end it would read something else but still showed a coin. I had a friend keeping a eye on the meter of the MXS. Next was a nickel and I got it at 9 1//2 but as I got to the high side he said it showed a penny at times but still a coin The dime came in at 7 but it too showed a penny at times. My friend said maybe because it a clad dime that's just it it's not clad but a silver one. The quarter came in at 11 it's silver and the clad half at 12 1/2. Lots of time you would get Misc if it didn't show a coin ID. I just put the pennies in the ground because some were old coin and I just wanted to make sure they didn't get damage I've hunted with my Eagle 2 in the same type ground without trouble like this .I've also hunted in the black soil and find all kinds of coins at a school near my home. This is and will be my last of any kind of test run on a MX Sport. You can see I'm getting less than half of depth on the air test.of a penny. Please White's I'll be glad to send this detector back but I don't want the same back. I've been down this road before without any luck in doing that. I'm really not sure if I want any but I know it's your call. I really think I had trouble before it was ever sent in the first time but don't know. Just maybe I got a bad detector out of the box the first time and another will be what i wanted it to be. Well Tom I hope you read what i posted here and get back with me. Thanks. Chuck PS This test was done in the center of a field so not to have any kind of electrical power are Power lines around..
  6. John I've seen but never found one myself and that is gold with iron on it. This was no stain. Chuck
  7. Well John I'll lay a gold nugget down and see where it hits on the scale first. Then I'll block everything else out and now I can just see myself picking all those gold nuggets up. BULL SHOOT I knew I'd read it someplace but couldn't find it. Thanks for quick reply. Chuck sometimes my light don't shine so bright.
  8. I was reading the book on prospecting and all metal mode and it says no discrimination in either program. Is this telling me I can't discriminate anything out ? The reason I ask is because I can like if I was in the coin and jewelry program. Is it not true all programs has nothing to do with the other ? If so then why would anything turn on in another program have to do with the one I'm running in ? Wondering. Chuck
  9. Steve You had said something about that before and I look at it then. Yes it goes to 8. I understand that people need to report a problem directly to White's. That's why I wanted them to also report it here so others will know they are not the only one with trouble. With any kind of trouble on a detector you won't be the only one that's having the same. Like a court of law we don't need hearsay. You need to tell that person they need to report it to White's and here. To do this will help others and help White's to correct a problem they may not know about. You won't find any company after they send their product out the door they don't want it coming back. It comes down to profit and loss.. The loss hits us too if we can't get it fix the first time. The Best to all and thanks again to Steve for having this forum. Chuck
  10. I plan on this Friday to take the MXS and do some testing in sandy soil in the country. Where I live is black dirt but it's only about 5 inches deep. The major part of the city sits on lime stone. The dirt is put in just so you can grow grass. So I won't post anymore until then to be fair to all. I say to all if you are having trouble with the MXS you need to say it now. We have a ear that is willing to hear what we have to say. So you need to step up and speak out. Chuck
  11. John I don't think the firmware cause me a problem. I think I had a problem in the MXS when I got it the first time new out of the box. I believe if I could get my hands on another I wouldn't be going through all this. The trouble I had before I sent it in I still have the same thing. I thought on maybe what was said this would be the fix I needed. I just don't know. Chuck
  12. To all on here that has a MX Sport. In the discrimination mode you have a curser you can move up to cut some things out . The book says it's a flashing curser but on my detector it don't flash. How about yours? Tomorrow I'm going to run a test with the sen set at 9.and I hope it is better than the trouble I had today set at that. Chuck
  13. I have this bag of heavy black sand and the weight is 8 1/2 lbs I took it outside but first tested the spot I was putting down on to make sure it was nothing else there. Okay with that I ground balance my detector on the bag of black sand. After I had it ground balance the number was 73 I would think the black sand would run high like the number did.. This came from cons I had and if it had any gold in it still it's very small. Chuck
  14. Tom To be all on the same page I put on the 10 inch coil. Now with the sen set at 9 I just too much snap crackle and pop. It look at first I was getting good depth but then it crackle and pop but after that I lost it. On the wheat cent I get 8 inches but after the noise I couldn't get that on a nickel.. I gave it a shot on a quarter but it done the same. First good but again i couldn't get a solid tone at that depth. I notice in the past at a lower sen. I'd get a tone but I already had removed the coin from in front of the coil.. Sorry I was outside doing this test. Chuck PS the ground is at 51
  15. Went over to Findmall and White's main forum. Paul is saying he had to sent his MXS back in again because White's had put the wrong Firmware in the first time. You may want to go read it for yourself. Paul posted this on 4-18-16. Chuck PS He stated he was told a few went out with the wrong firmware. One guy called in and was told there is no other update.
  16. To all MX Sport owners if you have a problem with the depth on your detector it's time to speak up. Tom from Whites' called me this morning and we had a talk about the testing I've done. He said that he will talk with the powers that be and run some test himself. We went over the settings I had to be sure all was correct. With that so far so good. He will look over all the testing I posted and get back with me today. Like I told him I'll do whatever I can on my end to solve this problem. Again I say if you just know someone who's having depth trouble say so now. At this time I'm the only one reporting trouble with depth. Chuck
  17. Well I sent a email to Tom and in hopes to hear from him. I'll leave it at that until I hear from him. I've tested and posted all I done on this matter. Till then. Chuck
  18. This took place back about 68. A friend and I stop to get permission to hunt this lady's place. She said she had lost her wedding ring in her garden while planting carrots. When she went to harvest her carrots up came her ring on one of them. It had grown right through the ring I know this didn't nothing to do with pointers but the word carrots came up. Chuck.
  19. Hard prospector Some time back I had a friend that had a claim above Rich Hill. Maybe not all the gold and quartz had it but a lot of it had lead sulfide. What I found around his claim just had quartz with the gold. The old boy found himself a blow out with lots of gold. It was nothing but good for him. Chuck
  20. Roughwater I thank you for your input and I hope others step in like the guy you know. On all my air test I wouldn't call the depth good and in the ground it's going to be even less. The thing is I really didn't just have to have the waterproof part of the MXS. I do beach hunt some and i have hunted around fresh water at times. I have a true water detector that is also a PI one. If I had it to do over again on what I know now I'd get the Makro racer 2. Don't get me wrong if they being White's can fix my problem I'm more than happy to keep it. Thanks again Chuck
  21. Paul If you will please look at your repair invoice and see if it shows what update you got. All it shows on the one I got it says Parts= repair-test Rev= 000 Description=test & inspection of repair Not this is telling me anything other than the Tech is TM Chuck
  22. Paul this is something you may not know. the Butterfield Stage at first used horses to pull the stage. Later they went to mules and the reason was the Indians like to eat horse meat but not mule. One old Indian Chief told a stage stop he was going to kill them all if they didn't start using horses again. This came out of a book I had on the Butterfield Stage lines. Chuck
  23. This is with the 10 inch coil tone 4 sen. 4 first the next sen. at 8. Coin and jewelry program wheat jeff n. silver dime silver qt. clad half 6 6 1/2 5 6 1/2 7 7 7 1/2 6 1/2 8 9 If the C & j was like the prospecting program it would be the best coin hunter you could find. I don't think you could hunt with the sensitivity set at 8 because of too much noise but I could be wrong. Chuck
