  1. Nice wee coin that!! Awesome depth for a cut quarter mate ? HH Sillllvar
  2. I'm Really enjoying my Nox 800. It has brought some nice relics. My hunting pal had his out for the 2nd time this Saturday past. He found a 1869 seated dime and a 1961 Washington quarter. We firstly went to a picnic grove that has been absolutely pounded to DEATH. He found the dime literally 3 inches down. It must have been getting masked somehow by some Iron. The 61 quarter (dropped by hunter most likely) was at an old house site and was bouncing all over with VDI. I told him to watch out for high numbers in the mess of readings..he did and there it was. He has never had a 2 silver day at two different sites like that! As for me I languish in the non silver camp ? I believe in my machine, I'm just not putting my coil over it I guess. OMG I want the small coil so badly...maybe then at my cellar holes I will get lucky. All the best Sillllvar
  3. Some nice Iron sifting for sure ? HH Sillllvar
  4. Wow NSC, A William III is a Stella find for Australia mate! I would have been stoked to find that one! I miss finding the UK stuff after being there for 15 years but feel fortunate to be living in an old area of the US. But I love this hobby and finding History I feel is relative to where a person is situated and means just as much ? HH Sillllvar
  5. A very Nice collection of Buckles NSC! Yes, these look like sash type buckles from the 1800's The pressed metal type are later examples, I think the heavy cast style are too fine to be for horse tack tho mate. More than likely strap buckles for bags or even gun slings. The New England (USA) area that I live in was settled in the early 1600's and Colonial buckles turn up from time to time. The website I use to research my buckles is below. If you look at part ten #40 and then at the notes you will see the Garter buckle. The Garter was a strip of material that was part of the fashion at the time! It's interesting how similar the tangs are to the later sash Buckles! I grew up in Australia, I wish I had Metal detected back then!! https://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ceejays_site/pages/buckletitlepage.htm
  6. Very nice on the gold, man its great to see how well the nox does on small gold! HH sillllvar
  7. Good luck Today, look forwards to see how you do! ? HH Sillllvar
  8. So an update on the Buckle. It's more than likely a 'Garter buckle' 1720 to 1790's. Due to the age of the site a good guess would be 1750's. So the Equinox delivers a first for me! Happy days..I do love relics guys ? HH sillllvar
  9. Yes, a great post! I agree with you Stephen. I've had only 4 hours with the detector at one of my sites and I can't believe how good this machine is. When the chatter started about a new minelab coming out I was a bit skeptical with all the hype and noise. It was only after reading accounts like yours and watching so many guys that are not big youtube guys demonstrating the power of this unit in what they considered dead ground that swayed me. Not to mention the excellent separation capabilities. I've been detecting for a long time and I truly feel like this machine is a Game changer for me and my detecting. This is only one problem with having the Equinox....I cant get out with it enough and yeah stephen, the Nox insomnia syndrome is a killer. My work colleagues want to put a sock in my mouth ? I talk about the machine so much! HH Sillllvar
  10. No Complaints from me on the ergonomics, I think its the Dogs Bollocks ? Translation = Awesome. HH Sillllvar
  11. Cheers guys.....Cal it's a one piece Dome style button, shank off centre. I took the Nox 800 up to my Pals place today. I raved about the Nox and he got one himself. I showed him mine and he tried it in his test garden..he was blown away! HH Sillllvar
  12. Well for me at least ? So another 2 hour hunt at the pounded out early 1700's Hole, abandoned prob around 1850 or 1860. I Kept circling in the general vicinity of the home site and found a few more buttons and lead bullets. I had a faint but audible signal which read 13/14 and from a good depth out came the little Georgian strap buckle. The buttons were reading at 9/10 in Field 2. The little buckle might not be a silver coin but I'm totally happy that I found it. I've never found one so small or seen one to be honest! I think the conical button might be militia issue as I've had them before with militia insignia on the front. I like that button because the shank is Wayyy off centre! I guess that one was made on a Friday ? I thought I might be out this weekend but its rain/thunderstorms both friggin days ? Good Luck to all who get out! I'm really starting to think this Nox 800 is going to be one heck of a ride! Oh, penny in there for scale. HH Sillllvar
  13. So it's come back to me! The Metal ring is from a Dorset button most likely....1730's I'm thinking.
  14. The site was a very pounded 1700's cellar hole. Detected by me and others multiple times.
  15. After work a quick 2 hour hunt with the Nox 800. I hunted in Field 2 . It ran really steady. The last time I was there I had 3 or 4 non ferrous items in 6 hours of hunting. I feel that if I had had a full day I would have had a heap more targets with the Nox. Guy's with the few hours I've had with the 800 I am already impressed. The very smallest button was a 9 on screen and I can safely say that I would not have found that with my explorer %100. The tone was low and soft and deep! The circular bronze item is a first for me here in the US. I've found these before in the UK. I believe it is part of a specific kind of woven button. Another Wow moment was the shell casing. It was a high number mixed in with a pile of iron sounds and numbers. There was so much Iron in that spot I knew again I would not have detected the target. Back out again on Friday after work ? I'm not going to lie, its a learning curve but I think I did ok for the first couple of hours. All the best Sillllvar
  16. Congrats on your purchase ? HH Sillllvar
  17. Cheers Dean! I'm lucky that I'm in a very old area of the US. Much of my area is being developed and the old sites are going one by one. It's so sad! In other news folks I have my machine and it is charging away nicely! I hope to get a few hours in tomorrow, but I think my first site will be a colonial one that I've had some success at in years past.. Many button's, a cracking complete 1720's - 1750's shoe buckle and a Fugio cent. Its been pounded even more to death by others since I'm sure. There are larger areas away from the hole if I get overwhelmed. I'm convinced there is early silver at the location! The set up was easy enough (I've put a few detectors together over the years) and I feel that the instructions were good. I am happy to report no wobble of shafts at present ? Oh my, it's a smart looking bit of kit as my fellow Brits might say lol I switched it on for a bit...just because I had too, ya know how it is! It felt a little strange balance wise but with the strap on the arm that improved. I'm dying to get out with this machine....I'm thinking there may be a Vacation day coming up real soon! All the best Al
  18. Participating in a forum and sharing detailed information takes a bit of effort. We all lead very Busy lives today. Our lives are full of distractions from work, family and all kinds of other things. My Nox 800 is due to arrive with me tomorrow and I can safely say that I have gained some very helpful and interesting tips/information here on this forum. I thank all you posters that have shared their experiences. Wednesday after work I have 2 hours to hunt in an old area that saw a lot of activity from the early 1920's. I'm trying to stay away from cellar holes until I can somewhat master the beastie! Ok well maybe as long as Saturday lol. Wish me luck..I'd love to be one of those guys with sillllvar on the first outing ? HH Sillllvar
  19. Nice digs there for sure. I am now educated..I'd never heard of Lustrium! Interesting! Well done on the return!! HH Sillllvar
  20. Good Luck out there with your new machine when you get the chance to get out with it! HH Sillllvar
  21. Cheers Steve! I mostly hunt Cellar holes here in New England where most of them have been hit pretty hard. I tend to find buttons, shoe buckles/relics and large cents. Silver comes not too often. I'm convinced that the silver is being masked in the Iron and my Minelab Explorer Se just cant see the small coins that have been left behind. I found the DB half dime a few weeks ago with a small sef 8X6 coil at the edge of a barn structure. It was a very small faint signal and it surprised me in that it was not stronger. That lead me to believe that the Iron was almost dampening down the signal. It seems to me from watching and reading that the Nox seems to pull that signal out and amplify it! I'm looking forwards to seeing the small coil on the 800, its going to be very interesting ? I think I'm going to try some of the hunted out parks/commons around with the Nox. I have located a couple of 1800's Hotel sites that night be prime targets to get the seated coins. Good luck on finding your Barber Quarter, I hope this is the year for you!
  22. Big thank you to Gerry's Metal Detectors! My new Nox 800 is due to arrive Tuesday according to Fedex. After watching and waiting I'm ready to find that seated coin that has eluded me for so long. I can see it in my hands... Pretty crazy to think I've found a 1745 half reales and a 1836 Drapped bust half dime before a seated in 5 years of US metal detecting right? It's a strange game this metal detecting. I'm hoping I can find my white whale with the Nox! HH Sillllvar
