Would anyone consider a coin swap/trade? I have a full range of British silver available. I only have one US coin. I find the US coins particularly lovely, but the rest of the world has some buteys too and i'd love a nice coin that's a bit different.. Just a thought. Cheers. Andy.

I hear ya. Happens a lot now that kinda thing. Its clealry biased and totally against the truth of the 800/600. Sad to see, but says more about him and his agenda than the truth of the matter. Shame.

Hay.....you know what i really wanna find......A full crown pre 1920.....THERE HUGE AND CHUNKY AND STERLING SILVER. I looked up sterling silver yesterday, and i didnt know that the other 7.5% alloys were added for strength and longevity. I like sterling even more now. I'll stop waffling now ? Cheers.

Yeah i was similar to your good lady JW. To be fair i didnt give it a chance as i only watched one episode, and in that episode there wasnt much detecting going on, just a dull story line. But that may of just been a bad episode. I like "dads army" and "Steptoe and son" for starters........so im pretty open to all sorts of humour ? I will say though, that modern comedy (for me) has slowly become less enjoyable and memorable over the years, giving way to the millennial type of humour, that is devoid of any depth. My hero comedians were Bill Hicks and George Carling. RIP to both men. I'm going to give the detectorists a bumper chance later this evening. Ill report back on the chuckle factor then. hehehe. Sorry should of mentioned, its a Late Victorian shilling (so my date might be off, as pitting has partly erased it, and i was going off an online coin site, which may be off too knowing the internet) but it is high grade silver 92.5% sterling silver. Anything in Britain under 1920 was the same. Thing is, the other coins which were pre-1920 have no pits and i literally found a few other silvers within 10 metres of it . As i mention, in my experience, silver tends to preserve very well but this one....well im scratching my head. I can be very pedantic, needing to know the hows, whats and why's, very annoying i know, but my brain is my brain, got no other to swap it with unfortunately ? So i think there is a slim chance it could be a forgery, but a chance non the less, but like you guys say though, the pitting could be caused by a host of other reasons. Any metallurgic (EDIT: Metallurgy) experts about, please feel extra free to chime in. Thanks you lot, your awesome. Andy.

Arhhh never considered that, very interesting suggestion. I dont know. Got me thinking now. Never crossed my mind that these old coins im finding could be forgeries. .

Just a quick one chaps (Do we have any chapess's) ........anyways, what causes pitting in silver coins. I found a 1898 coin yesterday and it has micro pitting in it. Never had that in any coin ive ever found. Thats why i like silver, cus its always in good condition. But these pits baffled me. The soil at this location is generally a mild PH, and very dry sandy soil - which to my mind is great for preservation, but bad on abrasion. But i have found over 15 silvers here, and none have pitting. So considering these conditions, what it is that would cause the pitting? I defer to your expertise, Thank you.

Hi you lot, hope your all well, I'm about to go and hit a local park. Ive found loads of silver coins (1880-1940's), but i now sense that ive pretty much hoovered them all up (Silver). Interesting thing is, there are loads of targets around the 10-19 VDI. I'm ideally trying to target a gold coin and gold rings. I know silver gives a lovely tell-tale indicator, for example a 24-25-26 which 99% of the time is... silver. So what does gold do on the VDI? Any skips on the VDI like silver? Im going to be using the depth indicator for potential gold coins, my thinking is that the deeper it is, the more the chance of it being old and not surface rubbish. But the gold rings could be any depth, hence why i ask if there's any tell-tale signs of the yellow stuff. Any other hints and tips would be mega appreciated. Help would be greatly appreciated.
