  1. Just curious, you didn’t mention if you were using it with the internal speaker or with headphones. I assume you were using the internal speaker only? If so, is there any possibility it was a random coincidence that there happened to be a jet flying nearby? I’m pretty certain in the videos I posted earlier on this thread that there were no jets overhead when my threshold went crazy after each time I turned the Bluetooth speaker off enabling the internal speaker. I was at the bottom of a remote and steep canyon to get away from all EMI as possible where I videotaped it. In my case at least it was the internal speaker causing feedback and Minelab’s fix solved the problem. I can now use the external speaker and mono coils with no speaker feedback issues. On another note, I’m sorry you had to sell it and I hope it wasn’t because of the feedback issue, hopefully you got a good price for it. I wonder how many other people sold theirs below market value because of this and not knowing there would be a repair for it later on. At least they’re probably looking at getting axioms which would be a good alternative, so things may have worked out better in the long run.
  2. No kidding! I worked as a helper on an archaeological dig and we had to hand excavate a bunch of 1 x 1 x 1.5 meter deep pits. I was sore after just the first one. Some of the ideas here seem pretty good, the main ones are start out sampling with random points in the entire yard until you have sampled a dense enough pattern, and then start gridding it afterwards. By doing random sampling you’re more likely to hit something if you’re short of time.
  3. You’re right- an old PI unit like a GP 3500 with a large coil could find something large several feet under. I was really asking if ‘any’ type of two-box detector would work at the depths a target like the one mentioned and just posted an example of the first two-box I saw listed here in the detector database. I didn’t know Garrett also made one- that one would be my choice if I needed one.
  4. Wouldn’t a 2-box detector like the Fischer Gemini-3 be a viable option for this type of detecting?
  5. I found that some of their updates are not too timely, my detector was being returned the same day it showed as serviced.
  6. Thank you Minelab! I just sent my cracked coil above and their turnaround was lightning quick with a brand new one. I have to admit, their customer service is excellent!
  7. I suspect it will be longer than 10 minutes - maybe 30 if the dealer has the spare parts and a hot soldering station. But anyways, it seems to be better overall.
  8. I think mine is one of the early ones too, I did get an email reply from the Australia repair center saying that my model was one of the ones affected so they knew what model runs had the issue. If you’re curious about it, send them an email about it with your serial number to see if yours is one also.
  9. Shush, you’re going to mess up my resale value! 🤫 Just kidding! You are totally right though. I’m actually thinking of keeping it but then I’m tempted sometime. Either way, knowing about the issue, there was no way I would’ve sold it without getting the fix before hand, that wouldn’t have been very honest saying it works great and all that on the ad. But now I can if I decide to sell it. I’m planning on using it for a while and see how it goes, At least planning to save at least one year’s worth of warranty on it which will give me a couple good trips with it, and time to see how those other ones are doing with everyone else testing them out. I’m through with being a crash test dummy, especially with my own money for brand new models.
  10. Ok, just tested mine tonight and it is stable sitting on the ground as compared to what was happening before the service. It seems a lot better and does not go into a feedback loop when I switch between Bluetooth and the internal speaker.
  11. Just got mine back yesterday, It was only less than a week turnaround. Did you have other things to turn in such as Coils? I only sent the control box. I was able to test it tonight- they did an audio update which took them about an hour labor. They were pretty good about providing notes of what they did in the receipt. Rob was right though, call them if you have any questions about yours.
  12. I have to also plug Rob and Chris- without too much detail here, Rob went to bat for me and was able to get an expired sale honored for me from ML, and then there’s Chris… He sold me a used coil that had a gold flake stuck inside the cracked coil cover! Hah, at least that’s the joke I pulled on him and he took me seriously for at least a little while! 🤣
  13. Gerry is an awesome dealer. He is trusting also when someone puts an order in. I know he knows where you live by your address and all, but dang, he’s sent detectors to me even before my personal check got to him, and then he sends me emails asking how it’s going. A+
  14. I’m ok with a deposit- my favorites here do that and it’s common practice probably as they’ve been burned by some customers here too. But a no-name non- personal and faceless online only dealer charging full price for a preorder is a definite red flag.
  15. And pay full price for a pre-order? Talk about dodgy if something happens. A deposit is perfectly ok, but I’d prefer not paying full if a dealer can go with that as well, definitely the way to go for honest to goodness service!
  16. That’s exactly why the testing part is so important, what you guys did was groundbreaking but you had no control over what came out after it. I am OK waiting though, I’m not planning on changing anything for a while as I really haven’t done mine any justice in the field. I’m really happy that I was able to get it updated and I am getting a new round plastic ice cream cover part for it as well. 🙂
  17. I’m going to wait… personal experience here. It’s possible that the testers have completely different units than the ones the general public will get, and the release delay may be a good thing for Garrett to be sure there are no issues like what happened with 🤐 … 🙄
  18. I got an invoice back from the repair center and it shows the repairs and cost. Looks like a simple repair too- $2 parts a little over an hour and a half in labor. Too bad it wasn’t caught by Minelab before boards were made and installed. I wonder if the board manufacturer had to switch to an alternate inductor manufacturer due to supply and a type mismatch happened or something as simple as that? This problem could’ve easily been overlooked by the people testing the detector like Steve; he probably got a very early version of it when the correct parts were still available for it…
  19. Sounds like a great trip you are having Steve, and what a great sounding detector too. Well, so I guess the wait is on … so in the meantime, can you guys lay low for a little bit until I get this other stupid thing fixed?! 🤣
  20. Hey Jeff- Hope you’re doing well, but if you’re laid up and have more time to kill, I have a suggestion - How about putting the data in the chart on something like Excel or Google sheets? It would be pretty cool to see a graph of that data! …If you can’t do it I have some students who are just learning about how to graph information that may be able to help out!
  21. Glad to have helped, Simon! Now you can put those nut grinders away! 😀 -Anthony
  22. If you were closer to So Cal I’d say try a Equinox also- do you also have access to a 7k?
  23. I’ve sold 2 clean condition GP 3500’s for about $1k each, the same price I paid for them. They seem to be holding their value around there, so $750 is a great deal. You can easily rebuild their stock batteries- gel cells that size are pretty inexpensive, so don’t toss the top on them if you are recycling old ones, I don’t have the right reference for which replacement battery to get, but I bet someone on here or on Bill’s site knows.
