I think mine is one of the early ones too, I did get an email reply from the Australia repair center saying that my model was one of the ones affected so they knew what model runs had the issue. If you’re curious about it, send them an email about it with your serial number to see if yours is one also.

Shush, you’re going to mess up my resale value! 🤫 Just kidding! You are totally right though. I’m actually thinking of keeping it but then I’m tempted sometime. Either way, knowing about the issue, there was no way I would’ve sold it without getting the fix before hand, that wouldn’t have been very honest saying it works great and all that on the ad. But now I can if I decide to sell it. I’m planning on using it for a while and see how it goes, At least planning to save at least one year’s worth of warranty on it which will give me a couple good trips with it, and time to see how those other ones are doing with everyone else testing them out. I’m through with being a crash test dummy, especially with my own money for brand new models.

Just got mine back yesterday, It was only less than a week turnaround. Did you have other things to turn in such as Coils? I only sent the control box. I was able to test it tonight- they did an audio update which took them about an hour labor. They were pretty good about providing notes of what they did in the receipt. Rob was right though, call them if you have any questions about yours.

I have to also plug Rob and Chris- without too much detail here, Rob went to bat for me and was able to get an expired sale honored for me from ML, and then there’s Chris… He sold me a used coil that had a gold flake stuck inside the cracked coil cover! Hah, at least that’s the joke I pulled on him and he took me seriously for at least a little while! 🤣

That’s exactly why the testing part is so important, what you guys did was groundbreaking but you had no control over what came out after it. I am OK waiting though, I’m not planning on changing anything for a while as I really haven’t done mine any justice in the field. I’m really happy that I was able to get it updated and I am getting a new round plastic ice cream cover part for it as well. 🙂

I got an invoice back from the repair center and it shows the repairs and cost. Looks like a simple repair too- $2 parts a little over an hour and a half in labor. Too bad it wasn’t caught by Minelab before boards were made and installed. I wonder if the board manufacturer had to switch to an alternate inductor manufacturer due to supply and a type mismatch happened or something as simple as that? This problem could’ve easily been overlooked by the people testing the detector like Steve; he probably got a very early version of it when the correct parts were still available for it…

Steve’s 2022 Australia Adventure, Part 2
GotAU? replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Garrett Metal Detectors
Sounds like a great trip you are having Steve, and what a great sounding detector too. Well, so I guess the wait is on … so in the meantime, can you guys lay low for a little bit until I get this other stupid thing fixed?! 🤣 -
Hey Jeff- Hope you’re doing well, but if you’re laid up and have more time to kill, I have a suggestion - How about putting the data in the chart on something like Excel or Google sheets? It would be pretty cool to see a graph of that data! …If you can’t do it I have some students who are just learning about how to graph information that may be able to help out!

Glad to have helped, Simon! Now you can put those nut grinders away! 😀 -Anthony

If you were closer to So Cal I’d say try a Equinox also- do you also have access to a 7k?

I’ve sold 2 clean condition GP 3500’s for about $1k each, the same price I paid for them. They seem to be holding their value around there, so $750 is a great deal. You can easily rebuild their stock batteries- gel cells that size are pretty inexpensive, so don’t toss the top on them if you are recycling old ones, I don’t have the right reference for which replacement battery to get, but I bet someone on here or on Bill’s site knows.

Yeah, I stuck an o-ring inside each one and they make it hold pretty tight without having to get out the vise-grips: https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/19624-1-gpx-6000-twisting-shaft-solution-o-rings/#comment-209327 I’d think Simon was having too many of those Phrunt’s Pints if he was really trying it with those nut grinders!🤣

That’ll also be me waiting in the longer wait line for anything expensive and hot off the press from anyone for now on. Since I was never in the race to beat everyone with the best in the goldfields near me, I know now I really should have waited. I did get a good deal on my detector and good service from my dealer, so I’m not upset or anything like that about it, just disappointed in the machine a bit.
