  1. That makes perfect sense. Sorry I misunderstood the intention behind your post. My guess is that they expected some people to not understand the update and kept the old FE to avoid any complaints.
  2. I keep forgetting that Iron Bias only works in Multi. That's why nothing happens when I try to adjust it in the single frequencies. I need to write that on a piece of masking tape and stick it to the machine so I don't forget. I don't use Multi much. The single frequencies get considerably more depth in my mild soil. I still keep it at 0 most of the time, so even those times when I do use Multi, I don't recall ever digging so much iron that I felt like raising it.
  3. I don't think ML has any influence over what is posted on this site. Do you think ML would ask Steve to do a poll, then order him to not tell anyone that the information from the poll is for ML?
  4. Here in NH, the fields usually freeze by early/mid December. When that happens, we switch to hunting the woods. You can almost always dig in the woods where I am and we usually don't get much snow. When we do get snow, there is always the beach. So we've got it covered for hunting year round.
  5. I run mine at F2-0 most of the time but it seems that no matter where I set the Iron Bias, I always end up digging at least a few pieces of iron. Even at the max setting, some iron will still give me those iffy high tones. Most of these I can reject but some I have to dig. Every once in a while they turn out to be a non-ferrous target comingling with a piece of iron. That's why I set it at 0. I want to hear every possible non-ferrous target. I'd rather use my ears than let the detector decide what to dig.
  6. One reason that I initially started using the module was because I was concerned about the possible negative effects that Bluetooth headphones might have on our health. I had read a few things about how using them for hours at a time could be bad for us but I never reached any solid conclusion. While using the module, I noticed that targets had a slightly richer sound, so I just kept using it. Here is what comes up with a Google search on the prolonged use of Bluetooth headphones. https://rb.gy/k4hwdl
  7. It doesn't matter what Equinox you have, F2 gives you more adjustment which is a good thing. There is no drawback to using F2. They should have just replaced the old FE with F2 and called it an improvement instead of keeping both.
  8. F2/2 is basically the same as FE/0. I'm pretty sure F2 is wider in both directions so it goes higher than FE/9 and lower than FE/0.
  9. My Equinox cord isn't coiled. One way to keep it from getting snagged is to run the wire inside your shirt, or carry it in the inside pocket of your jacket. Okay that's two ways.
  10. You should be able to use any headphones with the WM08. Most BT headphones are supplied with a wire. Give it a try. I get a noticeable difference in sound quality with my Tronds. Different headphones will likely have different reactions.
  11. Since F2 has a wider range, switching from FE-6 to F2-6 only raised the Iron Bias by a very slight margin. I wouldn't expect there to be any noticeable change. The difference between FE and F2 is that F2 allows you to go beyond the range of FE in both directions, higher and lower. There is really no logical reason to stay with FE. FE had a limited range. F2 corrected that.
  12. I find the ML-80 headphones uncomfortable. They press against my ears which gets a bit painful after a while. I much prefer the comfort of the Tronds.
  13. Not a bad looking coil. It would be nice to see some depth tests.
  14. I use the module pretty much exclusively. Even though my Trond headphones are bluetooth, I like the sound from the module better. On the occasions when I don't need better sound I might go with Bluetooth, but that isn't very often. I usually keep the module in the vest pocket of my jacket so it's easy to use and I don't mind the wire.
  15. F2 always at 0. I haven't found any reason to raise the setting. I think Iron Bias is mostly for people who have trouble with flat iron and bottle caps which I rarely encounter. It seems to have no effect on nails or normal everyday iron.
  16. I'd really like it if they made a non-waterproof version. That would bring the price down a bit and might even allow for a better longer warranty. I also don't want to see any tweaks that might make it work better under water but at the same time hinder its performance on the wet sand.
  17. Nice welds. Looks really sharp. Unbreakable now too.
  18. Duct tape and heavy duty aluminum foil should work just as well if you're on a budget and already have the materials at home.
  19. I made a foil shield for my pinpointer using Gorilla tape to reinforce the foil. That was because it was causing problems with my T2. It worked great. I might have to try making one for the EQX control pod now that I've seen the one above. I have sites near powerlines where I can't use Multi or the lower frequencies without drastically lowering the sensitivity.
  20. I've lost interest in the AQ as well. I was all excited for a while but now it doesn't seem to be living up to the claims. Looks like it's just another pulse unit with a couple of tweaks added. I'd rather see a new line of high performance CZ's for the beach.
  21. The 600 is all you need on the beach but the headphones that come with it aren't very good and look dorky. They also aren't wireless. Expect to buy better headphones. If you are planning on only going knee deep or shallower, you might as well get wireless headphones. This is assuming that you are confident enough to walk in the water without falling and getting them wet. If you expect that you'll be submerging the detector or hunting in the rain, get waterproof headphones. IMO, the 800 is worth it if you do a lot of dirt hunting. Wireless headphones plus the WM08 module, wider Recovery Speed range, Gold modes, two extra frequencies (20 and 40 kHz), etc.
  22. Recovery Speed 4 is where keep it most of the time when hunting deep targets with a moderate swing speed. In my test garden, I saw no increase in depth going lower than 4. The only time I might go lower would be when using super slow swing speeds hoping for something right at the fringe of detection. For instance, if I had just dug a deep coin spill and wanted to see if there might be a few more just out of reach. If the ground is fairly mineral free, I might set it at 2 and slow my swing to a crawl. I also might go through all the single frequencies while doing this.
  23. Thanks, It wasn't clear what he was talking about. I don't worry much about it. I just avoid the woods during deer firearm season and carry a can of pepper spray for the coyotes and dogs. So far I've never had to use it.
  24. I've been using the Trond V4.2 for years with both my 600 and 800 and have been perfectly happy with them. They are the best detecting headphones I've ever owned. I get zero delay with them. Why don't you want to use your Tronds?
  25. Now there's product waiting to be marketed. The idea just needs to be incorporated into a fabric cover.
