  1. I am with you there Steve, when park hunting that IDs a must, can`t go digging up the turf. But when on gold, in the country I detect lead is mainly the only signal that`s not gold. eg This morns hunt the ratio of lead to gold was 50/50 (15 gold 15 lead) with two boot nails. Not tougher, just don`t have the amount of rubbish with the gold in my area, posts on this subject on this forum have shown this. PS.... I`m talking of the fringe area I prospect not those in OZ that hold much higher human population now and back in history. Doubt whether a gold detectors discrimination will differentiate between lead & gold (in all its forms) but I only doubt, ML may prove me dead wrong in the future. That would be a godsend.
  2. Yeah, tis true if your on gold you dig all, even "iffy" signals (tree roots etc) be bloody crazy not to. In NQ OZ we have a lot of mining history with many old towns from the late 1800s, back in the A2B days chasing coins in such areas, you dug everything that "sounded good" now with the Deus I`ve reverted to doing the same, regardless of ID. Did the A2B leave coins? of course it did, but was that the machines fault or the operators? Don`t get me wrong I love the lightness, compactness and wireless of the Deus, but bugger all diff in depth & sensitivity over the A2B. Bring on the future, ML.............
  3. Great to see Codans profit increasing and share price moving positive also to see the amazing success of the powerful Z. Advances in its stability, sensitivity, GPS and depth are what`s important to me, I have no use for a discriminating gold machine in the country I prospect, but I can see ML perhaps have a market for this. As to the PIs being tapped out, perhaps the SDC can be developed further, discrimination and maybe its stability can carried over into a larger coil and its electronics put into say the CTXs case as the Z is, with a 14" coil option, priced at half of the Z it would be an ideal first gold detector. But a lightweight 10" coil as well as the coming 19" for the Z would be ideal for me. Aie to have a crystal ball, who 30+ years ago could see a detector such as the GPZ 7000. The A2B then was the producer for me.
  4. normmcq, Love it, but it`d have to be a big pan, the lads a wee deaf I suspect.
  5. Yeah, doubt I can put you on to one that big, by photo that is a impoundment barra (introduced to fresh water lake). Looks about 1.4m, biggest I`ve ever got here is just over 1M. But a fish about 70cm to 80cm is ideal, better eating and more spectacular fight. No fishing hut is 350ks from home ie roughly 220mls. Hut is on the southern end of Hinchinbrook Channel, all fish here are caught in salt water. Can only access hut by boat, generators and that sort of camp, tin hut but still pretty comfy. Actually am down there now just got here this arvo,(about 4 hours drive from home, another hour by boat) will see if I can score a fish, will post photo if I get lucky.
  6. Could be right Shasta, suspect there is a bit of letter writing going on.
  7. NASA is bringing back those little lights to keep circuit boards nice and warm and lit up, have a peek at this. ML will be onto this like a ferrite onto a rabbit. Crikey the Z10000, will be dual purpose, take it to bed and keep you warm......... http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/185027-the-vacuum-tube-strikes-back-nasas-tiny-460ghz-vacuum-transistor-that-could-one-day-replace-silicon-fets
  8. The blighters are flogging me nuggets, that`ll learn me for leaving em laying around.......... Having a ball in Side by Side, prospecting in style like a city slicker, tis the way to go. Why didn`t you Yanks send em over the pond to us 30 years ago? Rumour is MLs bringing out one complete with built in 3m x 2m coil. Kls designing a new detector with those little lights spread over the circuit board, so as it glows in the dark, detector that is...........
  9. That`ll expose the nuggets, I never said that.............
  10. The exciting observation I have made of this accurate comparison is the SDC and the 5000 are the refined products of MLs work with the PIs, wheras the Z is the first of the ZVT tech. What will be the capabilities of this technology as ML refines it over the oncoming years? I suspect we are in for exciting times, bring it on ML. For the newcomer to start out with a turn on and go productive SDC then as his/her experience and confidence grows to add a Z. Not knocking the 5000, it is a magic detector with its timings and multiple settings, but it is complicated and not really the beginners machine, wheras both the SDC and the Z are simple to use, the way to go.
  11. Tis a mystery, but for the hell of it I did the same resistance measurement on the antimony specimen I have. Same results, on lustrous surface bugger all resistance, even with the probes inch apart, but on the weathered section would need a insulation tester to get a result. Like anodised AL, where the bare metal is exposed, good conductor, but not so if testing on a anodised surface. But as you say none of this really makes identification of your specimen any easier. But if you do get it identified please post results.
  12. SG of antimony is a bit lower, but have specimens of antimony that look similar but not exactly. Is it brittle? The Deus gives an ID of 89 on antimony, which is similar to Al. But antimony has more a silver lustre (on broken surfaces) than gold lustre. Interesting.
  13. Research is good, but after 30 plus years of detecting gold, lots of armchair reading and dreaming, only one thing puts you onto gold consistently that is swinging the coil. If your in gold country as shown by mapping, and even outside it on the fringes, regardless of whether informed sources say the gold is too fine, is mixed in minute amounts in complex ores, is only on the out of reach bedrock or is all gone. There is detectable gold in reach of todays detectors on all gold fields, a bold statement true but a attitude that will put you onto gold. Attitude is king, swing that coil believing it is there always. Tis where tis!!!!!!
  14. I live in a area that in a 300km radius has 350 once called extinct volcanoes now called dormant. If they become active suspect our species will go the way others have. Tis nature and we are just another species, overpopulating etc etc. But Mother Nature will sort that out, will be bugger all evidence left we ever existed. Enjoy the lifestyle mining has given us.
  15. Yes I follow you here, as a observer in OZ, felt Britain was losing its identity (I am born in OZ but of British blood) by being part of EU. It will be something I watch as time goes and of particular interest whether the gold price drops much as the "newness" wears off. It could be said we live in interesting times but that is so of all times. In OZ with your leave vote news,we are having a resurgence of the Republican movement, but what is of real importance to this "vegemite" is we continue to have "The Battle of the Ashes", may that continue forever.
  16. Our press are having a field day, with heaps of negative comments but amongst all of that was this gem. Brexit explained with food.
  17. Yes, tis what I felt good satire, gave me a good laugh but to you folks over in the old home land is a serious subject, just my warped sense of humour. I hope all the alarmist news is over done and things settle down.
  18. I`m disappointed, thought the Federation of Independence Detectorists had a lot of say in the Euro bloc.
  19. Crikey, the mind boggles, what was his dog and his Sheila doing in his bedroom with him? Good one SS. Lucky twas only a ear he lost.
  20. Yeah tis true, if you don`t obey the visa rules, the authorities make it very difficult to come back again, but I don`t think you`d have a problem as a Nurse getting a work visa, especially as you come from the US. But as I`ve had bugger-all experience on this matter, a check out on the OZ govt visa website would soon sort this out. Ya got a good set of teeth????????????? Bloody rules & regulations!!!!!!
  21. Because I`m also refired I look forward to showing off my bit of OZ, we have the time and the inclination, no only NT have a strict initiation rite, here in NQ ours is a wee more relaxed, but I wont give it away , surprise you once your here................. Only kidding, just be relaxed and enjoy tis all. Crikey I`ll be surrounded by Nurses, my daughters a nurse, my daughter in laws a nurse, not to worry after being a grease monkey under the Troopie for a bit, you wont look much like a nurse.
  22. Yep, Discs on front, drum on rear Toyota Land Cruiser Troop Carrier. The 2H diesel whilst you can`t kill em, are lazy donks, ie. can`t pull your hat of your head. Not for people who like to travel in a hurry especially uphill etc. Yes, can get drums & rotors machined 1/2 hour away, no drama. We`ll be able to nick down to Hinchinbrook fishing hut (5 hours away) for a few days when tides are right and get you onto a barra with a bit of luck. Lots of tourist destinations in NQ, some just a day trip away eg Chillagoe Caves 1 1/2 hours away. About a 6-7 hour drive to JPs country, couple of days plus to BBs, tis a big Island. GHs just down road a wee bit.
  23. BB..... Nah, not quite all of us are over there, I`m staying here to turn the lights out. But if you didn`t leave that lovely yellow stuff laying around everywhere we`d stay home. But BBs on the money again, WA has more & easier yellow country, prospector friendlier laws and of course plenty of us top OZ Banana Benders to lead you astray. The gearbox doesn`t need work once your aware, tis easy to work around, certainly not gone as far as bumping into solids. So that just leaves the brakes & rego.
  24. Yeah, my old Troopies a 86 model, bought new then(very experienced gold finder, just give it it`s head and presto your on). Put it off the road in 2012, got 400000km on clock, 2H diesel donk still doesn`t burn oil, it was the first model with the 5 speed box. Which had a problem every 120000 or so the 3rd gear synchro ring would have worn enough, unless you were careful you could end up locking in two gears, a bit of rocking would get you going again. Crikey Paul might take you up on that mechanicing offer, have a empty town house (we live in a shouse on farm, which was only a w`ender, but have settled in nice permanently, Shouses are much more liveable then houses) anyway you & Sheila could camp in house. I`ve done the change of synchro ring last time back 120000km or so, no big drama, would change rear c`shaft seal on donk and rear welsh plugs whilst at it. Bit of luck main prospecting Station may be open again for fossicking again next year (currently building tourist facilities) and we could nick out there on odd day or so and score some weight. Crikey you`ll definitely be Refired as opposed to Retired. Now what does one call a Yankee, that turns Banana Bender(Cane Toad), Cockroach(Mexican), Sandgroper, NT`er etc etc ??????????? Crikey mate you`ll be here for the 17 State of Origins (footy), tis when us Cane Toads give the Mexicans their annual hiding....... Night time entertainment on the TV.
  25. Well if I wasn`t such a frigger the old Troopie be available too. It`s on the gonnagetaroundtoit list, needs brake & gearbox overhaul and sits dejected in town shed next to van. All bloody MLs fault for bringing out the Z. Crikey that Sandgroper BBs a bit cheeky, but he`s on the money, Nurses, Teachers etc are in demand over there. When we were in Marble Bar, back last century, local tried to talk the Teacher Missus to stay and teach, I did too, but you know they never listen to us blokes, reckon we`re full of it......wisdom that is.You could be working amongst that lovely heavy stuff. Just stay away from NT, you`ve gotta drink a carton, wrestle a croc to the 3 count and civilize a local Shiela all before Brekkie, before they allow you to gain NT citizenship. I never said that.
