  1. My auto guy says he wants to see the connector (male/female) so he knows how much room there is. It is a small tolerance at the top and this would be a reason also to have the Chet connector type. I'll have to check at Fry's to show him.
  2. That is what comes up here when I do a search for cable harness shops! I'll go by the guys a couple of blocks away and see what they think and then tell them I don't have all the parts with me and then think it over! It is just a bit of 'old school' precision that is required. A friend of mine looked at me and said 'don't you know how to solder?' The wires are too small I said. I soldered some as a kid because my step-dad was an electrician but we wired houses not radios!
  3. Ah, might be the key words I'm looking for ...
  4. Warning everyone ... Shania Twain chat to follow! haha JW, After you mentioned Shania and Google I asked Google/Spotify to play and it has been a while since Curtis heard it. He went into such a spin on the first song that he fell down and couldn't jump up any more during his dance. I don't know the name of the song but when he heard it again today he did the same thing. The power of Twain be with you all. Mitchel
  5. JW, I have several places which have been flogged repeatedly by GPZs to try. I know my skills are not as good as yours but I hope I can still hear a few unseen pieces once I find the time and get out there. Mitchel
  6. I want to say making the splice is not 'rocket science' but in Chet's case he was a rocket science technician and he has given me some good pointers since I don't have small wire experience. Finding that experience is proving more difficult for me than a simple google search. I went to Henry Radio today and they don't know anyone who does cable connectors or terminations. I saw some fiber optics guys on the street and asked them and they know what I need but don't know anyone that works with wires any more ... they are fiber guys now. My next stop is the electronics store/fabrication house several miles to the south.
  7. Let me say the packaging is adequate and it doesn't draw attention to the box. It got here on Saturday and I didn't have a chance to pick it up. I'll let you know my progress. I'll try to have someone do the job that would be willing to do more of them or show me how.
  8. I have received the 15x10 Spiral X-coil. Here is what it looked like when I picked it up. My initial reaction when I was given the box by my mailbox center was that it was 'light' and did they have another package coming? haha Well, it is all in one box and well sealed. It is not packaged like a great looking Amazon box with hardly anything in it. This is a custom box with a lot of tape. Inside the black plastic was a white box that was also well taped. That box contained a sandwich of the coil with coil cover and an extra coil cover. Thanks. The coil is terminated with one connector just like all the GPX coils when you buy them. Tomorrow I'll take the coil, the 19" coil, the 14" coil to my local car stereo installer who also works on battery scooters and electric bikes. If they don't want to do the job then I have called an electronics store that said bring it by with the instructions and they might have someone do it as a side job. The final destination for tomorrow is a radio store here that still has ham and cb radios. One of these places would do a better job than me. I've read all the instructions multiple times now and I haven't had the 'practice' of using that connector and there is not a lot of extra wire to play with so someone around here puts these on all the time. I just need to get these coils to them to make the dongle. Chet, Andy, JW, Simon, Dave and Jason have all said they would help. We'll get it done. Mitchel
  9. Who would have known? Prior to this everyone thought there was only one GPZ in the country! haha
  10. I'm learning a lot from him and Google. It is about once a day now he points at the Home Speaker and says Goooogllle when he wants to hear some dance music.
  11. Klunker, klunker, klunker ... you don't know the 'effect' you have on people. Let me give you an example. (It is a complete thread hijack everyone.) I'm sitting here reading your message and giving a laughing icon to it when my 2 year old comes up and points at the screen and says K. (He can see that from a distance on my screen next to your name.) He's learning the alphabet now so I repeat to him K, K. He grabs me by the finger and takes me to his room and we play spelling games for 30 minutes and now I'm back to post about it. Be careful Klunker, you have K powers you don't know how to control it seems. Even 2 year olds are affected (infected?) by it. Just like the Outer Limits ... you may now return to normal programming (thread).
  12. Well, I mean the pass down stories and 'they didn't get it all' stories of the area. I looked at other articles about the Kalgoorlie Rush and just wondered if the tale was told properly.
  13. Yes, I asked him! He said I didn't put it in reach so I have to find it or order a new one. I know I had no reason to take those parts to Quartzsite. I know what it looks like and where it 'should' be but I can't put my fingers or hands on it yet.
  14. I got a new control unit today. Thanks Minelab. When I went to put it back on the shaft I couldn't find the bottom part of the clamp. I have the screws but ... I'm tired of looking.
  15. Here is an interesting article that focuses mostly on the Kalgoorlie Gold Rush of 1893. I'm sure there are some here who would have tales to tell of this rush. https://lacrossetribune.com/community/tomahjournal/news/ask-your-science-teacher/article_928e4df3-a9a1-5c4c-bea1-bef645a0076e.html
  16. Retirement gold is out of the question or realm of possibilities. When you hit it big there is no reason to stop! Mitchel
  17. Simon, You are connected. Line up the family permissions and remember, go first to those places where they don't think they have any gold left. What they don't know will put you on to big gold and small gold. Go off map young man! Mitchel
  18. I went out again today with the 3030 and the 12" coil. It's time to give some love back to this detector. I was finding both small targets and deep ones. I've learned a lot about sounds from using my 800. I dug one 'iffy' signal and kept digging and digging and I got down 20" in the sand before I got a piece of iron. It reminded me of some of my abandoned targets in past years. The 3030 will hear a few targets I simply can't dig. Many people say the discrimination on the 3030 is Minelab's best. I tend to agree. I don't follow the digital numbers as much as I look at my target trace on the screen and I can see the nickel or gold rings! It is nice to place a find on the map also. This might be a good time to buy a used one but I haven't checked the prices so I don't know but it is a darn good beach detector. Mitchel
  19. I have a return shipping label so I guess it is on the way to me tomorrow after the holiday!
  20. I'm back. I'm sure glad to know you are back at it around here. I had wondered about the mysterious man from down under. I saw some good gold from Norm and company at Tom Wells Road. Lu won a salt lamp with a token. I got Curtis out there picking up coins. Last year he just sat in his stroller. Next year he will probably find more than me! Mitchel
  21. The article said there was another location with similar hope ... With all the hoards that have been found it seems someone there was mining and making things from it for a long time.
  22. How much gold is there? https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/local/perth-kinross/1081373/exclusive-gold-worth-300m-could-be-extracted-from-perthshire-hills-after-major-discovery/
