  1. Thanks for the reply Ringmoney. 🍀 That is a beautiful nugget. Which Nox did you get? When I look at that nugget I can see that we have failed a bit at our job here of telling people how to 'safely' find nuggets in different parts of the world. The lesson about removing your thumb 👍 before you swing and strike with a pick ⛏️ must be repeated. Just take your time and don't get so excited🤩 when you see the Nox numbers on gold next time. The nugget can wait for your fingers to get out of the way. 🎷 Irish 🇮🇪 gold rush to follow. (There won't be any prospectors left in New Zealand 🇳🇿 after they see that post!) Mitchel 🇺🇸
  2. Oh, I was going to edit my post but I'll put it up here. When I come across someone who has not filled their holes I feel like someone is going to 'accuse me' of it so I have to fill THEIR holes which can slow me down if that is what it is about. As far as I can tell the only good personal reason why someone would not want to fill their holes is so they can get on to the next target. That is pretty selfish. It is also one of the reasons I hunt like Steve. I go in the middle of the night or at other times when people and prospectors are not around.
  3. I am the one to give grief to some of my fellow beach hunters. I sometimes come upon them or they come upon me and they 'jump' my detecting pattern or grid. That is my first 'beef' with them and I'll sometimes get over that one and have a bit of a chat. I won't chat the guy who isn't filling his holes. My blood begins to boil and by the time I catch up to them or they get to me I'm in fight mode. I know I should be more calm and explain but I sometimes walk around them and yell 'fill your holes' whether it is day or night. I ask if they would be hurt if they stepped in some of their own holes. I know I would be. There is a popular deep scoop now that leaves a crater and a jogger or old person with bad limbs or eyesight could fall and ruin the hobby for all of us. I use to take the attitude that an open hole with dirt around it was easier to spot than a soft hole. This was until one day many years ago an old lady took me to task on a great patch I was working. She told me there were so many holes she couldn't walk across my diggings and she was right. That changed me FOREVER. Think about your kid or mother stepping in the hole you leave ... even prospecting.

  5. Just to think ... until this thread many just thought we were f**ked!
  6. Chase, Thanks for adding a lot to Steve's forums. I think that Flakmagnet could lend us his tone experience here also. It is topics and 'solutions' like this that help me to think about more optimal setups also. I'm glad we have a place to discuss it. Perhaps there are other places but I don't Facebook or go to other treasure sites where tweaking is the primary point of discussion. I just happened to remember my beginnings with the 800 and how it took me a while to HEAR what the Equinox was saying. Mitchel
  7. You guys know more than I do so I hope Gordon might be sent this thread and tell us if he still can tune his instrument this way and get the high tones Happa is after.
  8. Randy has replied and said: Hello Mitchel I have just found Gordons post on the Minelab Owners Forum and I have copied his settings below and I can see why people are getting confused. Yes Gordon is using 50 Tones and he is correct in saying that you can set the lower tone pitch with the only one option in "Tones" which displays "TONE 1" (ie) silver paper, thin silver and gold coins and all that it means is that the lowest tone threshold is starting at this low sounding conductive tone then as the machine detects non ferrous according to the conductive scale for example a large copper coin the responsive higher "Tone" is heard. Notice Gordon does not mention anywhere in his post below that there is the ability to make additional "Tone Breaks" or make any selective "Tone Pitch". All sounds produced is totally reliant on the conductivity of the metal object and that is where the LOW to HIGH Pitch Tones emanate from and is produced on the tone pitch scale 1 to 50. Good Hunting Randy ======================================== Gordons Post from his thread. Re: Making an Equinox sound like a CTX3030 You can change the tone pitch on all tone options (1, 2, 5, 50). 50 tones is done on Tone Break T1, and a low setting of 1 (T1 = 1) gives the lowest target tones (lower range of multi-tones). T1 = 11 moves the tones range to their highest settings... and of-course setting in between correspond to tone pitches in between..
  9. There are some other threads this could have been added to but I couldn't find them! haha Note: These are the tons of gold held by countries. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-11-29/gold-is-the-new-obsession-for-east-europe-s-nationalist-leaders
  10. Fred has steered you in the right direction. I've been to Holbrook at least 4 times. The first time was in 2012 for the 100 year anniversary. It is a LONG way from things and the meteorites are difficult to find. The 'location' is easy and I had maps when I was there but the identification of the meteorite vs the other rocks is difficult. The first time I went there I had taken with me a big shop magnet. That didn't help so I didn't take it back. Send some messages to those on the meteorite forums Fred showed you and you'll get an update. I haven't been there in about 3 years and some of the land had been cleared, some was private and the rains had moved things around also. Mitchel
  11. I just asked Randy Dee if he can help explain what Gordon means and perhaps he may have changed it with the updates that have been made since he was one of the original testers of the Equinox.
  12. Steve, you are right! I wondered when reading 'what could the rest of the stuff' possibly be compared to a nugget of the first size or the second size. You could have heard me all the way to California from Scotland if it was found during a legitimate hunt. It could possibly be found at a location 'near' an off limits area and now the 'foggy story' is presented to let it fly but they are already on to it.
  13. Here is a link on programs! http://pmdg.org.uk/files/Gordon-Heritage-Equinox-Programs.pdf I don't know if that is the FBS you want. It is formatted much better on the PDF! ‘CTX TONES’ Detect Mode: Park 1 Ground Balance: 0 (Factory pre-set) All-Metal (Horseshoe): On Frequency: Multi Volume Adjust: 20+/- (Depending on your hearing) Tone Volume: T1=4, T2=25 Sensitivity: 20+/- (Depending on your search environment) Recovery Speed: 6 Iron Bias: 6 Target Tones: 50 Tone Break: T1=1, T2=12 Tone Pitch: T1=1, T2=20 Threshold Level: 8 Threshold Pitch: 4 Discrim Break accept/reject: None (All Metal) This setup was programmed to get the Equinox to sound as close as I could possibly get to a CTX3030. The tones will closely match the CTX3030 (i.e. small hammered coins will have a low tone, large copper coins a high tone), although the audio responses will sound flat in direct comparison. These settings will allow you to use multi-tone in All-Metal, giving an audio discrimination (lower volume for rejected items). Although this program was designed just for the tones, it is powerful and you can try it on different environments to see if it works for you.
  14. Correct ... but I am using a different computer so my subscription is not recognized. I'll have to do more search to see if I can find a working link.
  15. I turn up the ferrous volume from 5 to 15 and leave the other settings as they are in the 50 tone. As I remember it when I first got my 800 there were some 'programs' from England from the tester who tried to make the 800 and 600 sound like an FBS. I've bought a used, working SE Pro to replace one that got wet in the salt water. It does have some capabilities that the 3030 and the 800 does not have IMHO. I just have to use it again. I found lots of GOOD stuff with that machine and my wife has too. It is really hers now so I'm taking a hands off approach. Mitchel I found the article I read from Gordon Heritage:
  16. I hope they can prove it out but until they do this is what they say: "Unfortunately the world of gold is very divisive. If someone finds a nugget it is not necessarily true. "This has come out of the blue and there is no confirmed provenance. "I would like to think it is real but it can take many months to establish if it is genuine and at the moment there is no proof." Now why would you want to prove that you found the nugget on land where you have to split with an owner and take a government price? Mitchel

  21. Some may have wondered what would happen to metal detectorists in the UK if they try to get away with not reporting the finds in the proper fashion. A friend of mine sent me this link which shows some of the consequences. https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/detectorists-jailed-viking-hoard-intl-scli-gbr/index.html
