  1. It will stay in Australia! Congratulations. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-08/perth-mint-buys-king-henry-gold-specimen/100196356
  2. This does 'tie in' to metal detecting as we know all over the Southwest because of the training areas for Patton's Army. Every time I go out in the Mojave/Mohave Desert I find training bullets from that period. Here is a memorial to Patton's Army: https://generalpattonmuseum.com/exhibits/desert-training-center/ http://generalpattonmuseum.com/ And here might be some research for future metal detecting of artifacts. https://www.nps.gov/articles/pattonmojave.htm
  3. Let us not forget this day. My step-dad landed on Normandy after his LST was sunk from under him. He was an 'old' 24 year old at the time. Imagine all the teens who landed and came back to make this country great. Please share a personal or family story if you have one.
  4. I got an email today from Rare Gold Nuggets and it said: A gold discovery in Russia of a gold nugget weighing in at over 22 pounds! Here's a link to the article with pictures: https://earth-chronicles.com/science/in-the-khabarovsk-territory-of-russia-found-a-gold-nugget-weighing-more-than-10-kilograms.html Quite impressive! There have been a lot of big nuggets mined in Russia over the years. A couple years back there was a 15-pounder found in Siberia. Here is a link with a picture of that one: http://raregoldnuggets.com/blog/?p=1085 Lots of big, remote, relatively unexplored lands over there... I bet there will be other big nuggets found in the future. PO BOX 6794 Boise Idaho 83707 USA
  5. There is Gold and then there is GOLD! Thanks Gerry for giving me an excuse to put him in a picture. Mitchel
  6. My metal detector picture today includes a flag for a number of reasons. I'm proud of my country and my family. My mother was a Navy nurse in WWII and she met my dad who was a Navy pilot after the Battle of Midway. She had a brother who was shot down on Jolo Island in the Philippines near the end of the war. My step-dad was a Navy Seabee who landed on D-day and also saw action in the Pacific. My Aunt was in the Army in Algiers. My brother was a navigator for a Navy vessel in the 70s. Some of my uncle's air training as a radar operator in his P-61 Black Widow was in California and Arizona at temporary bases. I have some letters of his he wrote to my mom and there is a good chance that some of the areas where I find gold and WWII 35 and 50 cal shells were from his planes. I look up and wonder if he had looked down where I'm searching. Thank you Gerry for reminding me that I need to honor their service and legacy more often. Mitchel
  7. I think as has been suggested that one side has nothing to do with the other. It has a thick lamination or plastic on it and I need to take a better picture of the eye but it is 3D. By that I mean it sits above the surface and I still don't know what would be in the little circles.
  8. The first person I asked about it was a Jewish guy I know and he said he thought it was Masonic but he said that is not the Star of David.
  9. I saw some waves last night and thought I'd get in a wet beach detect today before I drive to a one day desert hunt in the Southern California mountains. I didn't know what to expect and I didn't find very much of interest but I did find this pendant. Does anyone know anything about it and what the symbols and writings mean? I'll do an image search and post what I find.
  10. That is a good 'final hunt' but I bet you hit 200 the first trip back ... won't that still be in 2021? haha Now, where do you go until Labor Day?
  11. If you already know there is an 'issue' with the external speaker and EMI ... why release it?
  12. Ouch ... a lot of work for a little fun. Lucky knows where to go when the weather and weather reports are bad! There are patches out there. Either detector will find the bigger stuff if you get over that gold.
  13. Well ... everyone's personal patches aren't going anywhere. Act like you have a 6000 now with what you've got and when you get it go back and be Amazed by the performance of what you could not see.
  14. I don't know how many 6000s are already 'in the system' as complete units in the box ready for use but the Covid count in Malaysia is forcing them to shut down some things. https://www.newsweek.com/malaysia-sets-new-covid-case-record-amid-concerns-about-new-variant-1594595 Be prepared for a long wait with the chip shortage.
  15. This is more like park hunting than beach hunting in the area where I found the coins. These never got wet. Most of the coins with age that I have found were in the 40s. I can't remember any of them even in the 30s so far so I think this area was a house party area during WWII. I'd have to research it somehow and confirm that. When I'm done with the Nox and getting most of the trash then I could use my 5000 to see if there is deeper beeps. There is kind of a hard pan under the several inches of sand. What settings would you try?
  16. Today I was walking along the wet sand just looking for any targets and not finding many. Then I found a Jesus ring. Thank you Jesus! I gridded the area near the ring and found an Italian chain marked CU SU so I guess that means it is only gold ionized or something like that. It is pretty. It was time to get off the wet sand on the mile plus walk back to the car. I walked around the area where I had found my Franklin 50 Cent piece and nothing new. I went through the area nearby where I had found some recent silver and then followed my pattern back to the car. It was a warm day and I had to keep myself slowed down at about the 3 hour mark to keep in the game. Then I got the 35 on the Equinox and it turned out to be only my second silver 50 cent piece. I don't think I've held one of these since I was a kid. In the same general area was the 1944 Quarter and a couple of silver dimes. That makes for a pretty good day. These are the best of the finds with two wheat pennies. Just after I found the ring which is unmarked I got a 5 on the 800. When I dug it I could see the chain hanging out of the scoop. Then you feel it and know the weight is not quite right even tho the color is good. Then later I saw the markings and now it is stylish but not solid gold. I gridded the area and kept telling myself that chains don't sound like coins. Then about half an hour later I did get a coin sound and what a nice coin it is. This has not been touched as far as cleaning. It is one of those substantial coins that when you hold it it feels good. So you settle down and get to work looking for more. It was not long after and I had the quarter and a couple of dimes and the wheats. This was the way it all looked when I dumped it in the containers after the hunt. The saw blade was quite odd. I'll go back to that area one day at the beginning of my hunt rather than at the end. Mitchel
