  1. Before I repost from another thread I have to say here that I hunt on the beach with all metal and a 15" coil in Beach 1 at 23 just about all the time. My FE2=0. I have turned up my volume on iron to 10 or sometimes more so I can hear the deep, faint targets. When I dig some of them on some of my beaches they go from negative to positive and they have been gold on enough occasions that I get Excited at deep, negative numbers. Simon and I have written about the negative numbers many times and we both find good targets by digging them when you know they are there. You have to dig everything first. This is what I said in the jewelry thread 'A Lot Of Numbers': Posted August 23 As a beach hunter I dig just about everything from a -6 up in an area until I find out it is not worth digging it. I sometimes skip a -2 because it is a hair pin. The -5s sometimes fool me lately because they are tent stakes. The 0s and 1s can be foil bottle seals or ketchup foils but they can also be something good. I get tired or sometimes forget a 14 is a pull tab but they can be real too. Then the clad, corroded pennies can be anywhere from 15-25 on my beaches. They take more interrogation. If I'm working a patch which has quarters, dimes, pennies and jewelry I will sometimes skip a solid 20 to dig something more valuable if the tide is coming in or I just don't have enough time or energy for a penny. That becomes evident at the end of a session of 3-5 hours.
  2. Simon, Would this be a further nail in the 7000 coffin or will it make the 6000 and the 7000 'similar' so you just get an Xcoil for what you already have? What I mean is ... what is better ... 7000 with Xcoil or 6000 with Xcoil?
  3. Hovermap gives some additional ideas. This thread can help locate gold. https://www.emesent.io/industries/mining/?utm_campaign=Mining Campaign Dec'20&utm_source=EDM2_Mining_AM_July.Aug2021-MiningPage&utm_medium=EDM2_Mining_AM_July.Aug2021-MiningPage&utm_term=EDM2_Mining_AM_July.Aug2021-MiningPage&utm_content=EDM2_Mining_AM_July.Aug2021-MiningPage
  4. Just giving some thought to the future and what will be left to find. Gold nuggets are a vanishing commodity so what about a new beach PI Minelab? I know there are a couple of guys out trying to use the 6000 on the beach but at $6000 a copy that is a bit of a high price point for a beach machine. I like my 800 and my 3030 at the beach but what am I missing a little deeper? I tried the AQ limited but I got a lemon and I soured on it quickly. Should I try one again? I live at the beach and spend 90+% of my time on wet/damp sand. Hard to break old habits now.
  5. I have an 800 and have not had that problem. I have a 17"/3030 coil that broke on the ears over 4 years ago. I searched and searched for a remedy for that problem and ended up getting a kit from a guy in the Northeast who used some space age foam/plastic. His kit kinda worked but then you had to attach/glue it to the coil which was a problem. The solution was to make a part with a little bit of flex so you could tighten it with the screw to keep it from flopping up and down. Then you take that and get some plastic ties and cinch that down on the coil. That then takes the flex pressure off of a rigid/glued system of breakage. I was very disappointed when Minelab's 800 coils were made with a failed system. I haven't had a problem but I am keenly aware of where and how the ears break. When you tighten the bolt very tight it puts pressure on the base of the ear just above the coil. The screw head is so wide it rips at the base of the ear. This lateral force caused by the mechanical advantage of the screw is ALWAYS exerting a force to break the plastic. Now when you get it very tight and you tap the end of your coil to the ground to level or point with it you are providing an additional amplified force which wants to RIP the ear off the coil. I couldn't get Minelab to replace my 17" CTX coil. If anything happens like that to my 15" Equinox coil I'll find a yoke and tie it on like I do with the 17. Those ties never broke but I'd just replace them if they did and I didn't feel any looseness because I pulled them tight with pliers.

  7. Good detecting. You found the heavies. It was not supposed to find silver! How deep did it go?
  8. I've got a few that look like those! What part of the world are you cleaning up?
  9. Clark, That is a scary story. I would just stay in place no matter what in that area. I've seen what big, fast water can do in that basin and other evidence of the flash floods. You remind me of a few years ago when I still had my Isuzu Trooper and I was going on the first stretch of Greg's Hideout Road as you just get off Pierce Ferry Road. (There was no station then or groves!) It was well maintained and I called it the fastest dirt road because you could go 60-70 before you got to the turn and then head down to the subdivided roads. So I had not been there in a few weeks and I was zipping along that portion of the road and it now had a few 'dips' from side washes and before I could really slow down I hit one at a high rate of speed. I heard a big thump but everything seemed ok. I went on about my couple of days of prospecting and used the Trooper normally for a few months. One day I went in for some local service at my mechanic and he told me to come over and look at what he had found. The front left corner of the frame had a broken weld. It had snapped on that high speed dip. He couldn't fix it but he sent me to a muffler shop where they put a good weld on it that was still holding until the day I killed the engine on another trip. That is a different story. Mitchel
  10. Thanks for the story. It is good to get out there. It reminds me of our trip a few years back when we went to Nome. Mitchel
  11. I got the ring 'appraised' and it was said that the sapphire is a man made star sapphire because it is opaque. The value of the ring was still stated to be $1500 at the first place I went to which isn't too shabby.
  12. Simon, You and I chatted about this often. Unfortunately some of your threads might not be around any more to be shared but interestingly enough there are pieces of some of your stuff hanging out in those people who commented on it at the time. Here is a negative that stayed a negative but it is the deepest target I've ever dug. It happened to be a large piece but I'm still glad for the practice at digging that deep of a target. This iron cap was over two feet deep. Before this I had already found a couple of cheapie rings. On a previous day I fished first at two different beaches. And then I found a gold/diamond band that day!
  13. Mike, I use the 800/15 just about all the time on the beach any more. I use no discrimination in Beach 1 at 23 sensitivity. I've learned that deep targets at first can often be a negative number. I use 50 tones mostly but I have been known to go down to 5. I stick with that even in very wet sand but I do have another setting I took from King of Bling which is Beach 2 and 2 tone which I crank up to 25. I can walk faster with that one. The other one I have to listen for low tones which I have increased my iron tones to 10 ... maybe I should increase that volume even more. Mitchel
  14. We had some wind waves last night and it was time to get out in the morning and see what the wind blew in. Most of the way there was nothing. I had no targets and then I found a little dog charm tag. It sounded a bit different and I was able to get a 'line' on some possible deep targets. I walked on for another 100 yards or so without any targets in between and then I got a -5 but it was 'deep' so I knew I had to dig it. As soon as I scrapped off about 3-4 inches the target changed to positive. I've had this happen many times on good targets. This one was a bit deeper but it finally started coming in at a 9 and I said to myself that this is a good sound. I still was not prepared for what came out of the hole. It is stunning. It is 14k/3.5g and I believe it to be real diamonds and sapphire. It was down about 12 inches. A big surprise for something that nice to come out of the hole. This was everything so not that many targets for the day and the 2 hour hunt.
  15. I get these finds every day. They are impressive. https://www.noktadetectors.com/the-best-selling-detector-of-the-year-continues-to-astonish/
  16. Lunk, I notice the lack of specificity. But it does intrigue me even more that it is a German company. I'm looking online for videos about it now and they mention Africa in the comments. Has anyone ever used this 2D one or the top of the line?
  17. I'm just totally perplexed by this 3 meter depth 2D detector. Can it really work? Why would they advertise it with Nokta and Minelab?
