Hello folks! I was asked about the overload on the SDC recently on Tnet so i conducted a test and figured i'd post my results here also. I did this quick test in my yard which has moderate soils of 68 on my GB Pro. I plan on doing a test in hot soil also but may be shy some nuggets to do so because im currently liquidating my stash as to pay for my Zuma ( not the 1/4 Ozer though - plan to make it into a necklace for my wife). I used the stock setting of Sens. at 2 with threshold at 3 with my Grey Ghost Headphones. I used 1/4 oz, 2 dwt, and 1 dwt pieces for my test. The 1/4 ouncer overloaded at 4 inches and closer and the 2 dwt piece at about 2 inches. The 1 dwt piece screamed with the coil directly on it and up to an inch but didnt hit the overload pitch. Yet if i put another small piece, say .1 gram it hits the overload pitch. So it seems that gold smaller than 1.5 dwt wont overload even if directly on coil while gold over 1.5 dwt will hit overload pitch at about an inch. As you all know the conditions of the soil and shape and angle of the gold all determine its response on our detectors. Thus it is what it is. A guide line at best. I know that i'm still amazed at how strong the signal is with tiny gold on this machine. Now if i can just get time to get out and find me a new spot. The itch needs a scratchn! Yes bears are about as numerous as rabbits and most the time no trouble at all just like the rabits. Although occasionally one is shot or trapped for being mischievous. Bad ass creatures if you ask me.

The local towing comp here in Scott valley posted some pics yesterday of a truck that hit a bear on the Klamath River going 70 mph. The truck ended up in the middle of the river crushed like a can. Couldn't put up a link but the business is called Valley Towing if you want to look it up on Facebook. Lots of pics but didn't hear if the passengers were OK or not but it didn't look good. AjR

I know a local in my area that does very well and his wife finds more then him nearly every time. There an unstoppable couple and very humble. If they posted there finds i think many would be very amazed. Heres to the female detectorists! AjR

Read a little more on this story yesterday. New mexico is promoting it as a tourist attraction and said they expect over 50,000 people to come search for the treasure in the coming year alone. Funny thing is no one knows for sure theres even a treasure out there. Would be the greatest hoax to pull, but hell, maybe not. Interested to see how it plays out. AjR

I love insects and would have a ball in OZ for this reason alone. Mimicry in nature is magical. Whether it be to trick a possible predictor or to blend in with prey there is a mimic or parasitic trickster for nearly every insect out there. We have a Moth called a humming bird moth. Its alittle smaller than a humming bird but when it buzzes around it sure looks the same. I've never done well inside building to long, hate tight spaces and find no enjoyment in a city of any size - even my closest "city" that has less than 6000 people and is barley a town to most folks. I'm not a compartmentalized person - i need the random amazement and constantly shifting spectrum that only being in nature can provide. Without this i become as down and depressed as a lion in a cage. AjR

I'm with ya on legalizing the weed. Many grows in our woods too. Not as many as about 5 yrs ago but still find afew every year. With medical marijuana here in Cal the small time regular guys grow at home so you know that when you find a patch out in the woods that its cartel or out of the area growers. The locals are cool - the cartels and other worry me. I've delt with the weed growing my entire life but the intro of the cartels to the scene makes things more dangerous. On afew occasions i've came face to face with mex growers. Like two wild animals we both started and then stared before going our own ways with out saying a word. Me praying that if i get shot it doesn't kill me and i can drag my ass out to help. I fear the two legged animals much more then i do the four legged type. Once again these occasions occurred without me having a dog. I'll forgo the dog and risk the danger if in known growing areas because no one could stop me from hunting down the grower if one shot my dog. Sadly the cartels are very widespread know from the American all the way to jackson county Oregan. Also legalizeing it would free up allot of jail space and wasted tax money. A buddy that worked in Alaska with bears said he and his fellow Bio's would carry bearspray and 454's but also a road flare. He said that on one occasion he and a partner poped the flare to see the reaction of an onry bear that was continually prosueing them even after a warning shot. He said the bear appeared curious at first but then just got scetched - nervous and then backed off keeping a wirry eye out at them. He'd never have try'd it if unarmed but it seemed to work well. In 4 seasons of work he only had to fire a few warning shots and had to kill only one bear and that was a starving black bear that wouldn't back off for warning shots and then charged. He dropped him about 15 ft from himself. Intense he said and he was a Green Beret in Vietnam. Stay armed but bearspray is your best bet was his advise. AjR

Get that Gold Dean! - i'm sendn the Discovery energy to ya and hopeng my new bike adds to my poke also. It gets 60 - 70 mpg so that'll take some cost away from going mining. Thanks for the link paul - i'm going to leave her stock for awhile and then do some slight mods - new mirrors and lights first off and then maybe sliders and rollers. I hunt around or in the water so the open design of the Aussie cover works well for me because it doesn't soak up water and my wet arm doesn't stick to the arm cuff. If i hunted the desert i'd likely do as you Tortuga but the cover sure helps for scratches and dings. I treat my things well but use them hard. Good Luck AjR
