  1. I agree, I always find what I'm looking for in the last place I look! 🤣 If it is there. 🤔 My separation tests will probably all be "real time", in essence finding anything at all of worth in a very trashy area. I have some specific places that are like that. It would be interesting to cover them with all 3 coils. One thing for sure the Deus is unmatched in swap speed.
  2. I haven't done much air testing, only once to prove a concept with a particular detector vs. 3 others, and sometimes after the find to verify an ID. My thought is that i can quickly learn a new detector/coil by first digging pretty much everything i come across in each place until I am confident with how the machine responds in that environment. If I can make notes so much the better, I can remember tones and IDs fairly well. After a short period of time I end up digging more good targets than trash. Notice I mentioned both new detector and coil. I travel a bit (mostly coastal) and know that everywhere i go there are different conditions so I really have to start out this way every time, it's a discipline for sure. There will be variations with each visit as well depending upon ground moisture content, so what worked yesterday might not be as accurate today. I can tweak out a good program over time, and prefer detectors that let me save them. I agree that all testing is worth something but would rather get out and get real time experience.
  3. I think you will like it a lot, Cap'n. As Carolina also mentioned, the IDs are much tighter, and if you're considering the 11" you might as well go all the way for the same price. Here's the link for the centering device I used again, it's only $16 with free shipping. Very well made: https://www.ebay.com/itm/294905629723 You will have to shim the rear of the block near the coil clamp, I just used some thin nylon washers. Maybe anyway. 😀
  4. These are farm fields so they are chemically treated. Many of the campgrounds I visit and metal detect also have this problem probably due to chemical weed killers and fertilizer. I'm not just finding history, I'm saving it 😏 On top of that I live and travel mostly on the coast, it's always saltwater or brackish, which is a mix of saltwater and fresh. Only rarely do I find coins I don't have to clean much, silver even gets stained. The gold comes up fine though 😎
  5. You'd know latency problems by finding your targets always off center in the hole, or by having to dig a second hole to retrieve them. 😀 The other issue, especially with APTX-LL devices, is not hearing the entire tone of half of it on each swing.
  6. Got out for another day with the 13", I'm even more impressed with it. Again it was insanely muddy, at times I thought the mud was going to remove my shoes. 😀 Went to the small "hot spot" and found a few more buttons. I also dug a crushed thimble, which means someone was attempting to sew them back on 🙄 I'm pretty sure it is aluminum but it isn't very corroded so it could be silver. Part of this spot has three "washes", eroded shallow ditches where stuff collects. I hunted all three but for the most part the finds were lighter materials such as aluminum can slaw and the steel plate with the numbers on it. That was a banging 94. I found the most mangled but whole penny I have ever found: even sidelighting produces no details. Dug a fat IHP on the way back, sadly no date. The most interesting buttons were a silver plated one (not wash), and this one: I had to sidelight to bring out the unusual script. Sadly, I dug the smallest two piece button I have ever found, it had a ring of stars around a center hub, looked almost like a wheel. It was smaller than the smallest button pictured. I can't find it. 😡 I'm going to upgrade my initial recommendation to "definitely recommend" the 13" coil for relic hunting, as long as you're not in the woods. 😀 In open fields this coil is a killer, and it even finds the tiny stuff. I haven't had a chance to give it a separation test, but I will soon. I was able to swing it for over 7 hours today with no ill effects. The trash was a bit heavier today, even found a tuning key out in the middle of nowhere. Lots of buckshot and musket balls.
  7. Is there a link for the specific headphones you are writing about? Generally there is some lag with wireless headphones, but with certain transmitters you can eliminate that.
  8. I extend the lower to about 3 and a half, I am 6'1". I have not noticed any flex at all, it is very rigid with the centering block. I normally extend the 9" coil more than that due to it being off center. Also cutting back the length reduces fatigue for me.
  9. Thanks for this info! Heck the "CF" could mean "Calais, France" for all we know 🤣 BUT, it's only on the 13, and it is 10g lighter. 👍 I wish they would publish more info.
  10. As usual, great stuff. 👍 And the gold substitute is a 400ish year old earring! Is it copper, shell, stone? To my untrained eye it almost looks like Tombac 😀 The other question is whether it was worn by a man or a woman, it seems the men adorned themselves as much.
  11. Welcome Walt, I visited your country while in the US Army in 1984. We received quite a welcome! We were close to Antwerp, not sure exactly where, but it was very nice and a good memory for me. I wish you the best of luck with finds, I looked up your laws and hope they permit you to get out there. This is a great forum for advice and information, looks like you're already interested in a fine detector.
  12. I guess it's a matter of "go big or go home" 😀 if you buy the 11" you'll wish you got the 13". I could have skipped the 11. It really doesn't weigh that much more and you get max coverage and IMO more accurate IDs. Do get a centering device for it unless you wear steel toed shoes 😀 For beach hunting, especially if you don't go often and time is limited, it's an easy choice. I'm going to be going out more with it, I dug so little trash the last time I think I'll leave it on, but the 9" will be in the truck. 😁 May throw the 11" on another shaft and use it with WS6 Master setup. So many choices now... 🤔
  13. These are incredible finds. Thank you for the beautiful photos! I hope you find your Deus also loves the gold! 😀 I'm waiting on a second shaft so I can create a WS6 Master to use. Hopefully I can recreate my favorite program on it.
  14. Haha, busted! Dunno about you but on my phone I always hit the newspaper icon to see all the latest stuff no matter what forum it's in. 🤣 It may upset the "exclusive" crowd but I like all aspects of metal detecting. 😏 I had to decide which spot to put it in. The only reason I'm posting here in XP forum is because the post was mainly about the 13" coil, and how I really didn't find much in a spot I've wiped out with the other two 😀 This is not to be misconstrued as bashing it for sure, I'm really impressed with it. I simply cannot prove in my environment that it finds "deeper good stuff". I'm sort of relieved because I'm not a fan of digging large craters on this beautiful old farm. To its credit I did dig one really deep one, almost 2 feet, chasing a strong 79 ID (like that gold ring) that turned out, thanks to my trusty Quest pinpointer, to be a big chunk of iron buried with some bricks, probably filling an old groundhog hole. 🤣 I marked it in OnX Hunt in case I decide there's something to investigate. More to come in Coins and Relics once this rain takes a break... 😁 We've been getting rain almost every other day and it's not looking good for a while.
  15. Incredible find and work creating the pendant. Yours almost looks heart -shaped, there's an interesting article regarding heart shaped Reales from that period: https://www.sedwickcoins.com/articles/hearts.htm Hope you find an appropriate chain!
  16. Truly interesting finds, Zincoln! 👍 It was quite the thing to "de-badge" cars in the 60s and 70s, I knew kids that did it. 😀 Tried to find your whatzit, it might be a stylized "ERA" or something. Raleigh bicycles apparently didn't have a badge like that. Thanks for posting unique stuff. 🙂
  17. Nice hunt Carolina. 👍 I see you noticed the ID accuracy as well, and the weight difference to the 11" really is nothing much. Glad you got some gold for your trouble, it wasn't that nice a day today. Thanks for this honest review!
  18. Sorry you are having a problem. I have two MI-6 devices, they both paired easily but the first one doesn't always connect when I turn it on. The second one fails a lot less. They're temperamental but by far the best pinpointers I've ever used. Of course that's over only two and a half years 😀 and the Deus 2 is my first XP machine. I assume you've either used a video or followed the instructions in the manual? As I recall you have to go into pairing, make sure nothing is already paired under the pinpointer screen, and then follow the on-screen instructions. Now and again I re-pair my MI-6 if it starts not connecting. Here's a short video I used to do mine the first time: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Of7pgoO0JCM
  19. Thanks! I've been in the spot where I found at least 10 buttons in one hour, I must not have been looking too hard there before. 🤣 It was nice to hit so many in so little time! Great way to end the day.
  20. Thanks! I sure was mucking it today. 😵 With so many new detectors out or coming out, the justifications for getting the Deus are IMHO as follows: More waterproof than any other detector Much lighter than any other detector with a similar size coil No wires. Coil changes are quick Great headphone options albeit pricey. As you well know, any detector once learned will produce results commensurate to the environment, you're not gonna get gold nuggets where there aren't any 🤔 😀
  21. Thanks! There isn't a lot of iron in this particular field. I do have some very trashy spots but they're still covered with bean crop. It's really nice to hunt this field, when you get a good signal, about 98% of the time you'll get something good. The strangest thing is that I sometimes find a beer can over a foot deep. 🤔 I expect large iron to be that deep, but not aluminum. The takeaway here is that this coil gives really accurate IDs, something I find lacking in the 11", and even the 9". Lower bump sensitivity as well. I think the delay in releasing it was to eliminate some of the issues they had with the large coil for the D1? For sure there are improvements.
  22. Got out with the 13x11 D2 coil today, had a late start but the 30 degree morning quickly warmed up to the mid 50s by afternoon. I went to the field that I've hunted the last few times I've posted, got a lot of good stuff there. The most plentiful thing is buttons, I did get a 14k gold wedding band and an 1857 half dime here. I've pretty much wiped out this area, so I thought it would be a good place to try the big coil to see if it turned up anything that I might have missed, either by depth or coverage. I didn't find swinging the coil any worse than the 11", with the new lighter lower they ship with it, it's only 3.5 ounces heavier. I shortened the shaft length a bit and that helped even more. I was able to hunt for 6 hours without any additional fatigue. I hate to write this but there was no discernible difference regarding depth in this field, the coil didn't find anything that I would not have found with the 9" or the 11" coil. The only noticeable advantage was coverage, but I had to go a bit slower and interrogate targets more. This does not mean this coil won't find deep objects, there is nothing deep here but big iron. I dug a few pieces of it to see how deep it went, some bits were definitely 12"+. Then I stopped. When you get a new coil you should dig some undesirable stuff to make sure. The modified general program I'm using runs very hot, 98 sensitivity and 0 reactivity. If there was anything deeper I certainly would have found it. I was impressed with the lack of bump sensitivity with this coil, I was only hearing some small ground chatter. I was also impressed with the accuracy of IDs, it seems to work well, better than the 11". It separates well, I was able to pick out some good stuff co-located with iron bits. I use full tones in square audio. I find it suits my detecting style. Iron is low and great targets are very high. I'm running pretty much all metal with no discrimination. I did many ground balance grabs, but it always stayed at 78 today. It was extremely muddy due to an overnight frost, I had to keep scraping my boots or they'd get over 5 pounds. 😀 I did find a couple more targets in the initial search area, but nothing good was more than 6" deep. After about 3 hours I got tired of searching the same place with no results, so I searched another part of this huge area that I thought had very little. I was wrong. 🤯 I ended up with 14 buttons total, two large dandies, 8 medium, some of which were concave, had either silverwash or had some gold left, and 4 very small buttons. I got a 1930s wheat, a piece of a spectacle buckle, another saddle stud, and some whatzits. I'll have to return to that area, I dug a button every few minutes until it was time to leave. Got the wheat on the way back. I guess overall I would recommend the 13x11 for relic hunting in this field, however there's nothing so deep that the 9" or the 11" wouldn't find it. I'll have to try it in some other places I have access to. It's big, it catches my boots' steel shanks from time to time, and both it and the 11" are pretty heavy compared to the 9". The only advantage is sweep coverage. It's a great coil if you have a specific use for it! Can't wait to try it at a beach. This is all I dug for trash today, another impressive thing.
  23. I've only found a couple of KG coins, but I do find Spanish silver here. That's what really got me into the hobby 2 years ago, found some pistareens in a field in front of my house. 🙂
  24. Good point, NC. 🤔 I weighed all 3 lowers, the 13" lower weighs 10g less than the 11" lower, about the same as the Nokta CF lower. The 11" and 9" coil lowers do not have "CF" in the circle. I don't know if there are other processes used to create CF extrusions except the woven ones like the Nokta. I guess all we can do is speculate. 🙂
