  1. Hi Phrunt, So is the chip cut from within an original coil & that coil then mended over with the chip being used to make an adapter in a same/similar way as the gpz 7000 X coil adapter that is then on the outside of the coil. So the chip is going from the inside of the coil to the outside in the form of an inline coil cable adapter & able to be interchanged between ML GPX coils & X coils? I guess the adapter would be at the top end connection going into the control box? Interesting. I am picking that the 15x10 X coil is a mono. Thank you Greg.
  2. Good advise Rob. It is crazy how deep you can chase a signal down among the rock piles. Sometimes never recovering it. πŸ™„
  3. Hi Gerry, Nice find & one of the better pieces at a bit of depth I have seen with the 6000. I have not seen the video but it looks like the 11" coil in your photo. I have seen a lot of your great finds over the years & I have noticed that your assumptions of depth are usually quite a bit off. Mostly stating the depth as being quite a bit deeper than it actually is. I am very surprised that a guy of your age & experience in doing what you do doesn't have a better eye for depth & size. How could you see an 8" water bottle as being 12"? You must deal with heaps of different size coils on almost a daily bases that the sizes must be ingrained in your subconscious. Waiting for a monster nugget from you at depth with the 6k & 17" coil. What are the chances? Thanks πŸ™‚
  4. That was a very unusual piece of gold. Good to see the GPZ showing its grunt & raw power & depth. I am hoping the 17" coil on the 6000 can do similar, if there is any left at depth that previous machines & coils haven't already got. My experience so far with the 6000 it seems there aren't any bigger deeper ones left in my neck of the woods. That is with the 11" coil but I am waiting for a 17" hoping I am wrong. Here is hoping. Wicked find that one Gerry. What has happened to it? Has to be a keeper for sure. Greg from NZ
  5. MMMMM, moral of the story: When you are out in grizzly country.......you are out in grizzly country & not the safety of your back yard. It is there territory....not yours & shit happens. Greg
  6. Nice finds Jonathan. What sort of depth were they at? Cheers. Greg
  7. Hey Reg, Then unless the 17" coughs up a decent colour at depth from you then I don't expect to see anything from you. In my experience, with 2 months under my belt using the 6000 across the ditch here in NZ, It loves small gold. While it may get these at better depth to what we have been used to the bigger deeper gold seems to have been got already on old grounds. If it ain't there to be found....it ain't there. It wont replace what has already been found. I am still waiting for a 17" though to put through its paces. So here is hoping. Greg from New Zealand. πŸ™‚
  8. Steve said. Your own ground rules, not mine. Ain't that the truth. Our grounds are not all equal. So you need to work out what works for you & your conditions. You can't go entirely off others settings & coil selections. They can be a guide but not hard & fast. Greg πŸ™‚
  9. My kind of detecting. So much fun & usually very rewarding when you find those hot spots. Thanks for sharing. Greg :)
  10. I am picking that this issue is going to be a problem with the GPX 6000 coil ears. They don't seem very robust compared to the GPZ 7000. You can use that detector like a weed eater (whipper sniper) through long grass with the aid of the swing arm just flattening the grass. In my opinion the 6000 coils & shaft will not handle or tolerate that & the 17" coil I imagine would be even worse. The price you pay for making things light weight I guess. Structural integrity is compromised. The 11" coil is holding up but I dare not run it in among long grass. Nice repair on the Nox coil. Hi Phrunt. Are those ear supports made here in NZ. Can you please put up a link or contact for them? Thank you. Greg
  11. Nice slug at 7". πŸ‘ What was the weight? On another note. Can't you drink aussie piss? LOL πŸ˜‚ Greg from New Zealand. πŸ™‚
  12. Hi Pinger. The Nox 800 covers a lot of avenues & does a lot & has a lot of features for the price it is. Water proof to 3 meters. You just need to get the water proof headphones if you get the urge to go below water. Best bang for buck detector I reckon. Greg.
  13. Hi Steve. Thanks for your reply & that link. I have always appreciated your up front, honest & unbiased opinion on detectors over the years so I was surprised you had not shared anything of your experience with the 6000 on your Alaskan adventure. I was so looking forward to you doing so. I have been using a 6000 here in New Zealand for over 2 months with good results with the 11" mono coil. Nothing overly deep & nothing over 1 gram & not very deep. Nothing deeper than 4". My GPZ 7000 seems to have done a good job on deeper bits & larger bits. I will admit that in 15 times out with the 6000 I have yet to not come home with no gold. All be it pretty small. I have not yet tried the 14" DD but may need to to see if it gives me a bit more depth. I wish Minelab had made a 14" mono coil & I guess there will be those that wish they had also made a 11"DD. I am waiting for a 17" mono coil to arrive to give me a shot at anything that may be at depth that the 7000 missed. That will be very interesting. There doesn't seem to be much out there with results or thoughts from people using the 17". Cheers. Dig4gold. (Greg)
  14. Nice finds & have to agree with the scrape & detect mythology on the smaller type gold when the bigger gold has already been cleaned out. How did the 6000 do on this? I don't seem to have seen anything mentioned by you on how the 6000 did for you on your Alaska trip. Not even a photo, or is that still coming? Cheers. πŸ™‚
  15. Are you not specifically referring to higher mineralised grounds. What about very mild ground & DD verse Mono. You still think the DD has it over a mono? Cheers πŸ™‚
  16. Hi guys. New to this site but not new to chasing gold. Mostly detect for it these days. Name is Greg & I am in New Zealand. We have in the last couple of days gone into lockdown due to our first covid case in the community since february of this year. Has apparently come from across the ditch from the New South Wales outbreak in Australia. BUGGER. So locked down at home & cant go out for a detect. Beautiful day too. Look forward to "meeting" & hanging out with you all & see what you guys are finding & what gear you are using & what your thoughts are:) on it. Take care stay safe. Greg πŸ™‚
