  1. That would probably sell real quick for more than melt to any "Nancy" that sees the photo!
  2. I found that interesting when I came across it the other day. Here's the link to the "shorts" video you're talking about: Engineer on ground balance It's easier to read what he is saying at the top of the video rather than trying to hear him.
  3. Nice! You're long walk and staying power paid off in the (very) end!
  4. I've never found any low carat either. But that 8K would have broke this gold slump I'm in! Interesting find.
  5. Yes sir! If there are small grunts mixed in with some good sharp bangs, it's junk jewelry sometimes which is still fun to find. I need to break my no gold chain streak. You are hitting solid hunting areas to pick up five. Good hunting...👍
  6. Yes, clean white sand. I find most of my coins while hunting the sand in the morning while it's too dark to get in the water. Most are encrusted with sand and quite degraded unless they are fresh drops close to the surface. If I had to deal with the variations of your air test results, I'm sure it would be a lot tougher to determine what's under the coil before you dig. I haven't tried dirt digging yet, so I'm not familiar with the other program search modes.
  7. Sorry, I haven't found enough chains to learn the sound. Too much competition here that snaps them up right away. I have found a few, but not enough to give info on the audio differences. I think most people who have become used to regional high to low tone modes will have a harder time adjusting to Prospecting than someone who hasn't used regional. I rely on the target ID more to identify what type of metal it is and use the sounds to try to separate trash from good.
  8. You do have a ton of pennies! As far as Prospecting audio, I'm combining it with Upper 4 and Lower 0 Ferrous Limits to identify the iron and I run All Metal mode. It grunts away if I hit an old bolt or screw or tent stake. I keep iron volume at about half of what my regular volume is. Good round targets (coins, rings, earrings) bang hard and crisp to your ear compared to foil or slaw with Prospecting Audio. Just need to put the time in to train your ear to hear the difference, but it's there.
  9. Interesting. This data is quite a bit different than what I've been seeing at the beaches using Beach Modes. I came across this older December thread because strick posted a link in the "zinc pennies vs. gold rings" thread. My crusty zincs and even fresh zincs have been around 80% 59-63. Some stray into the 70's, but not that many at all. Pull tabs can vary a bit more depending on the style tab, but I would say 80% have been 29-33. This is a much more condensed VID range than what strick is seeing. Much easier for me to call a zinc or pull tab before I dig it than what is shown in the graphs above. I can also pretty much call a dime or quarter nearly every time before digging. A dime is around 79-82 and a quarter 89-91. Nickels are almost always 25-27. I wonder if Beach modes (I use beach low conductors and surf and seawater only) are that much better at identifying targets or if it's just because of the hotter ground conditions strick has and not so much the search modes we are using?
  10. I dig all the pennies regardless. I really don't come across that many and I'm digging in easy soft sand at the beach so why risk it? I come home with maybe 6-10 pennies on a 5 hour hunt. I know your digging situation is different, but I can't contribute thoughts on passing up pennies. I do pass up most pull tabs that hit 29-31. There are just way too many of them on my beaches. I'm starting to hear the differences between can slaw that is hitting 10-20 and non-can slaw targets using Prospecting Audio theme. We have a lot of can slaw also. Foil at 12 and under also has a particular hit sound compared to non-foil in that range. I'm still learning to tune my ears after having this machine for 10 months. You gotta dig enough garbage targets to hear the difference from the rare good targets in that lower range. Prospecting audio helps for sure when the garbage slaw and foil targets still show as a nice clean dot on the line.
  11. Glad he lives in Canada. Please don't vacation in Florida!
  12. I have and like my CKG scoop which is reasonably priced. CKG Scoop link If you want to go cheap and don't mind the extra weight, get one of their stainless scoops and pair it with a shovel handle from Home Depot for a little over $100. If you don't mind spending a little over $300, get one of their titanium scoops with their one piece carbon fiber handle like I did. Super light weight. One piece handle is stronger than the two piece travel handle. The Raptor pull handle is a good addition for yanking a whole scoop full of sand out of a hole. I have mine mounted about 18" down from the top end of the handle. If you are a prime member, their stuff is on Amazon also.
  13. Good hunt. Yes, the water still sucks for me too. I am digging a few coins out there though. My routine has been hit the dry around 5 a.m. and then transition to the water when it's light enough around 7:30 and hunt till around 11 or so. My only finds have been cheap toe rings in the dry and cheap earrings in the water. WHERE'S THE GOLD GONE? Sheeesh.... At least some of the earrings in the water appear old and rusted as if they weren't fresh drops, so maybe some of the sand has moved out. The coins also look crusty from out there. Maybe there is hope. I keep thinking I'll find a fresh drop in the water one of these trips so it keeps me coming back to try again. As usual. Edit: After doing a little research, the Christian Dior stamped K18 is from Japan. That's how they mark 18K. Nice! 💍😛
  14. Monster 18k! That should be worth a lot- get it appraised. Congrats, I think I'd have to go back and try again maybe off the beaten path of the other guys. This is why we hunt water!
  15. If the bail or loop on the pendant is still intact, you would think there is a chance the chain should be somewhere in the area. Sounds like your circle hunt area plan is the best option to me. Nice finds.
  16. The U.S. appears to be last on the list.
  17. Good looking beach....I'd hunt it. Beach modes are designed for salt water beaches. From the manual: "Beach Modes are for saltwater beaches including dry sand, wet sand, surf and underwater conditions. Beach modes are designed to minimise the noise generated by the presence of conductive saltwater for a smooth, quiet detecting experience in these conditions" Not that you can't try it at a freshwater beach. But keep in mind you can try the other modes if you wish to experiment.
  18. I bought some earbuds for that reason. Now I can wear a wide brim hat also to keep the sun off some. Go to Ebay and search "earbuds for Minelab" if interested. I bought the long cord version. Been good for half a dozen trips so far. A guy on youtube used the white version, but they quit working on him. That's why I went with the black. (different manufacturer) Oh....and here's the cool hat I bought: Boonie hat
  19. I haven't because I'm a water hunter and reading about those, it doesn't appear you can dunk the transmitter attatched to your detector. You have to buy their wired amphibian phones in the Grey Ghost line up if you're gonna hit the water. You don't like the stok M105 phones?
  20. I will be doing the same tomorrow morning. Hoping for a couple water targets because I don't like the sun/heat either. Recently bought some waterproof earbuds for Manticore off ebay so I can wear a wide brim hat while detecting. Been using them for 5 or 6 hunts so far, they work great. Much cooler without regular earphones.
  21. Exactly what I'm finding Bob. I hunt the dry before daybreak with a headlamp and then jump in the water when it gets light enough. The storm cleared a lot of the foil off my beaches (YAY!) and seemed to concentrate the pull tabs in a line near the upper third of the beach. I've been on three 4 hour hunts since the storm with 3/4 of that time in the water waist to chest deep. I've found only 4 coins and nothing else in the water for all that time. (appx. 9 hours) I did get a regular amount of clad in the dry and managed a small 14k 3 leaf clover pendant. This is the definition of "sanded in". All that eroded sand off the beach has been dumped into the swim area. I am finding virtually no targets in the water. I have attempted to dig several quarter TIDs that were just too deep to retrieve due to the sand falling back into the hole and then they just disappear into never never land. I think any jewelry found in the water at this point will be a fresh drop in my area.
  22. Are you ground balancing by holding the GB button down and pumping the coil or just a single press or tracking? Did you long press the noise cancel at least 2' above ground until it settles on a single channel before setting sens.? Some soil may not allow sens to go higher than 16 without chatter, but some people handle more chatter better than others. Not sure where you stand when you say a fair amount of chatter. I don't mind some, but think my amount may bother others if listened to long enough. (ear fatigue) If you have power lines around your back yard or anything else that could cause EMI.....try a different location out in a field somewhere away from EMI sources with the same settings and see if the chatter lessens. All told, 16 sens is not too bad a spot to go hunting with. (could be better, but ok.) I can run 4 recovery and get repeats on most good targets, changing maybe 1 or 2 digits is normal for me. But.... I run Beach programs only.
  23. Just re-read the description of the 15" coil on the Mine Lab site and it says it weighs 650 grams with the skid plate and the 11" coil description says it weighs 500 grams with skid plate. So now we know.....not too much more weight, but I bet you'll feel the difference for sure. I can tell when my 11" has collected too much sand that I need to knock off when hunting the dry. Sites offering pre-order sales have listed a price of $329.
