Look At This Amazing Piece Of History!
Rick N. MI replied to TreasureHunter5's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
That is a great find! What detector were you using? -
I like the relic. Always nice to wheats and mercs.

If The Vanquish Was Waterproof...
Rick N. MI replied to Rick N. MI's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Yes, I'll take that too. I've been using the 6" coil a lot. -
Broken Pulsedive Coil
Rick N. MI replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Nokta / Makro Metal Detectors
Nokta Makro took care of replacing the battery no charge on my Gold Kruzer I bought used. Very good service. -
I don't use hearing aid with headphone. They do work with light headphones like XP Orx. Headphones that wrap around my ears make the hearing aid whisle.

Waterproof XP Deus/Orx is certified to 16'. I've used my Orx in the waterproof case and put inside my waders. I haven't let it get wet yet. Now I'm using a wet suit but haven't used the Orx in the water yet. Right now using my Equinox 800. No leaks after it was fixed.

GMX Can But Xterra Can't With 6" Coils
Rick N. MI replied to Dances With Doves's topic in White's Metal Detectors
The Gmx is a powerful detector. I miss mine. To bad White's is gone. -
LOL, yes you get it. Seems the older detectors move bigger iron up and the newer detector are moving the iron low. I understand the point in not wanting to dig any iron. When I relic hunt I like digging the bigger iron too. I've been detecting all summer in the lakes. Not doing well. No gold yet. Only 2 silver earrings so far this summer. Not even many targets in the water. I don't know if people aren't swimming much in northern Michigan or if other detectors are getting it all cleaned out. That's why I was thinking about doing a little relic hunting. Lucky for me the Gold Kruzer really like the bigger iron...but I'm going back in the water again. It is very peaceful and a lot cooler. Lake Michigan is much cooler lol. I've been in Lake Michigan the last 2 days.

Using the gun part for an example and the Equinox w/ 6" coil going it over the long way it has the same id as the nail. Again the other detectors I listed get great both way hits. I found this part using a Lobo ST w/ 8" concentric in a field. So if I wanted to dig this part in a field with the Equinox I would have to dig nails too.
-
A detector like the Tejon. I guess it hits a high tone on iron bigger than nails. I'll try it with the Equinox. Notch out an old rusty nail and dig the low tones if I want to. I also try blocking 8 and 9. That should work if I want to dig some iron. It is nice having all those adjustments. I'll compare some signals to the Gold Kruzer.

Yes I want nails disc or notched out. With the Gold Kruzer, Nokta Relic, Lobo & Tejon I can set disc to take out nails and it hit's great with a solid high tone all around it on all my iron finds. The gun part with the Orx w/9" hf and Nox w/6" with nails disc'ed it will hit good 1 way and breaks up the other way. I know the Nox can find iron but not with the great hits with the above detectors. I wouldn't take the Orx or Nox out when I want to dig iron relics. The T2 in 1 tone with nials disc'ed didn't hit my iron relics well. So I guess I'm saying detectors that hit iron relics all around with a sold high tone.

I love finding iron relics. I think I like finding iron relics even better than gold jewelry lol. The Xp Orx and Equinox 800 do not hit iron relic well. I had a T2 that couldn't hit iron relics good and if I remember right the Multi Kruzer also didn't hit iron relics good. Detectors I have used that are great on iron relics are: Lobo ST & Tejon I miss these 2 detectors. Deeptech detectors Gold Kruzer in Deep mode hits bigger iron great Nokta Relic was great. I miss it. Here are some iron relics I have found. I don't know what the top one is. I was guessing a bottle opener maybe? A door knocker?

Back Into The Swing Of Things
Rick N. MI replied to dogodog's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
That's a great hunt. -
That's an awesome bell find. I like finding stuff like that.

Those rings are cool. I'll bet the Indians really loved them. I found a found a small copper knife about 2 1/2" long plus a tang hammered out by Indians. I think it was an Indian camp that was over looking a river. I found pieces of copper and stone chips. I was told the copper knife was made 4000 to 6000 years ago.

Great finding those. I think there value is $150 ea. I have an area where they have been found but I haven't found one. I did find a 1700's button. A British 10th Regiment of the Foot. In excellent condition with a full back. I have buddy who had a can full of the Jesuit buttons. He set the can on the bumper of his truck and forgot about it and drove off. He tried to find them but he couldn't. All gone.

It was streaks of black sand on the beach. I hunted in the water with the Equinox 800 in Gold 1. I didn't dig any deep targets. The scoop would have black sand go across regular sand when I would shake the scoop. Everywhere I hunt is very mild. I don't know if this is affecting the depth here or not. My other beach waters would ground balance 0. This one was 14. The Gold Kruzer mineral was bouncing 2 - 3 bars. That's not to bad. I ran a super magnet thru the sand on the beach. Is this a lot of black sand on the magnet or not? I have seen sold black sand beaches in the upper peninsula of Michigan. They mine a lot iron in the UP.
