  1. Well, here I sit - recovering from some minor surgery - the sitting part made more difficult - no more details available.... Today I had Fisher ship the 25th AQ LTD. If I had any idea why it is so infernally slow of them to ship the darned things, I probably couldn’t share the details....but the fact that they give me no useful information about such things means that I am spared the decision on what to disclose. Mostly folks who have them are learning what they are good for and the consensus is - I think - that like any other detector - they are not good for EVERYTHING. Happily, the consensus also seems to be that they are amazing for a range of interesting and useful things. You can all read about all this elsewhere here. For me, I am patiently tending my “waiting list” now about 45 or so. Whether FTP will eventually furnish enough machines to clear the list is not known to me, but I am optimistic. I am surprised, pleased and grateful that the majority of folks on my list are unbelievably patient and polite - You all have my thanks. I am VERY happy that I didn’t go in for “pre orders” “pre payments” of “deposits”. Had I done som my life would be a bookkeeping hell (thank you Steve for good advice!). When the LTD is done and the “Unlimited” is available, I expect and hope to be one of the dealers for this. In fact, I pretty much feel like I am “all in” for the whole Impulse line. The Gold is busily in work. Prototypes will be fielded for test and when the time is right it will be “inshallah” introduced. I have bought a new SDC2300 and a nice used Gold Bug 2 to play with in getting ready for the Gold. In the meantime - I bought myself another AQ LTD and am demanding (for that that is worth) to be early on line for an 8” coil to play with the AQ inland - running its paces against the “trial ponies” - all to educate me for the Gold. Meanwhile, I sit here in Gold Canyon - seeing no-one. I have a couple of “strikes against me” and I am a bit of a “health pessimist” and so the slightest hint of the plague would be extremely unwelcome. I look forward to next year when we hopefully do more and be more engaged.
  2. Got my BBB (Beachnut Big Battery) 11 hour (est) run time battery today. Hope to give it a spin tomorrow. This should help me from having to backpack extra gear around for 3 1/2 hours or until the first battery quits me. I opted for the standard headphone connector to keep things simpler. The standard FT hearphones seem to sufficient at this point. Although I have been reading a lot on some of the threads about adapting other headphone for the AQ. That may be something I need to address down the road but not for now. I am just now starting to discern one target from another and don't want to start the learning curve again. LOL Thanks OBN for such a nice looking addition to my AQ. 11 hours is something FT really needs to think hard about now. Or at least the 8 hour version. That would be very do able I would think. I will keep you posted on run times. Joe PS: I am not sure why my pics are sideways.
  3. Tides were decent this past week, so I took 2 days to hunt 2 different beaches with the AQ. While the tide was high, I would detect with the GPX 5000 or the Equinox 800, so I could conserve battery time for the AQ. These finds pictured are all found with the AQ. First beach was disappointing, as the low tide did not expose any rocks or clay. This beach just doesn't want me to hunt the good areas 😄 Beach two was better hunt with all day rain to keep the gawkers away. This hunt was interesting, and I was able to shed some light on how the AQ will perform for my style of beach hunting. Both day's hunts were mainly using Tone Mode, so I could hear both the accepted and rejected targets. I did this since both beaches can produce silver, plus I was interested to see the cut off between reject and accept, for the settings I had. The most telling were the sinkers, as some came in high tone and the larger ones came in at a low tone. Beach two also showed that location matters, even on the same beach. One section produced zinc pennies, and scraps of aluminum cans. But the other section produced heavy targets, with a lot of lead. That section I was only able to detect for about 1 hour as the beach was about to close down for the night. No gold, but the lead and nickels says that I was close. If my coil would have come over gold I would have heard it loud and clear. All those targets screamed out loud. I will hit that area again when time permits.
  4. Hello have you seen this video ? Lot of iron ... I don't understand English very well, but I have the impression that he says that there is no variation in the audio. and that there is no double beep on the bobbie pin .it is sold to find under iron, but I see it only finds iron. 🤔

  6. Actually Fisher phones are some of the most copied Headphones ever made the oneS that come with the AQ are actually better than Gray ghost in my opinion .....I designed the Timberwolfs and Hurricanes....the drivers piezo that my friend Beechnut uses I used back in the early 90’s onmypersonal Cuda and one very similar on the production Baracuda ....the only difference in the land phones fisher sold had a clipper circuit built into them to protect youR hearing which a lot of copiers including me left out and just used a variable resistor pot on each ear to dial them in ......I have not pulled the cup on my fisher phones but what I do hear I hear well . I’ll probably put a m12 connector on mine after warranty has expired....To work on JoJo’s Ltd Battery For AQ.....just my thought use earbuds if you want or a clicker Happy Trails jimpugh
  7. I had a chance to hit a beach for about 6 hours, so I loaded up and headed out. Not a very low tide, so I decided to try and run the Fisher Impulse AQ in all metal mode and see what turned up. I started with what little wet sand I had, and then went dry sand to purge the beach of trash. I wanted to see how the machine would handle a 7us delay, all metal, ATS at 0, sensitivity from 4-7, threshold barely heard, and noise cancelled best at 7 or 7.5 position. Disc was set to 4 when I checked some targets in tone and mute modes. I was not expecting any gold since this area is still sanded in heavily. I did manage to get some copper pennies and degraded coins that were brought back in at some point. Always a good sign to see coins degraded that much since they have been around a long time. No lead was found, so that tells you a bit about the condition of the beach. Decent amount of coins, a really corroded silver chain (I am assuming). I did not have my test kit handy, so I sanded a bit if the chain to reveal a silver color. Not aluminum, probably not nickel or zinc, not steel, so silver is my best guess. Can any of you AQ guys and girls tell me what settings you would think get the deepest all metal depth on dry sand and on wet sand? Hoping I had picked the right combination of settings for that type of hunting. This week there are some better tides coming, so I am planning on 2 days out to see what I can get.
  8. Hi! I think it would be greate if we can in someway have weekly(monthly) report regarding progress of AQ production line fresh from El-paso.In that way Fisher can keep the enthusiast of future buyers up high when they show things happening and we get the info about the progress of the production of the final AQ machine.
  9. What are you AQ guys/gals using to protect your coil bottoms with?, marine epoxy? By the way what does a new replacement coil cost? GaryC/Oregon Coast
  10. Been waiting for fresh drop season to slow down a bit before taking the Fisher AQ out for it's maiden hunt. Some big surf hit a spot and exposed some black sand under decent looking cuts so figured it would be a good time to try it out. Started out in all-metal under suggested stock settings. Unfortunately there was quite a bit of iron bits around. Decided to give the "Tone" mode a try, about 15 mins later I hit a high pitch sound at the lower slope, 2 scoops down and I had my 1st AQ gold, 3.6 grams of 14k! I like the Tone mode a lot, I can foresee how it's going to be a useful setting when trying to cherry pick gold rings out of coin & iron infested areas. Quarters, dimes, pennies, tent stakes, nails do come up as a low tone. Some rotten Felix pennies did come up as a high tone though, but surprising most zincs were weeded out by the machine, a lot of the trash you see in the pic sounded off as a low tone. Nickels and Gold sang out as high tones. The 925 chain came in as a high-tone surprisingly, the silver ring was a low tone. Also another note, this area was already heavily pounded by someone else judging by the grid marks & dig holes left behind. I couldn't be happier with the performance of the AQ and I can tell after I spend more time learning this machine, I'll be able to expedite the gold extraction process on some challenging beaches this fall/winter!!
  11. A buddy of mine received his Fisher AQ Impulse last week. We have been anxiously waiting to try the machine at our freshwater beaches where old bath houses once stood and black sand is abundant. Mike hit the water this morning and did really well at a beach that three of us have pounded over and over with Excaliburs in all metal mode and with White's TDI Beach Hunters. This thing really woke up that beach. Congrats to Fisher for hitting it out of the park with AQ Impulse! I can't wait to get mine and join Mike in the fun. The majority of the stuff Mike found were heard from the top, including the gold.
  12. Water levels were pretty good today. I hit an older area that gave me a ring a few years back. Set knobs to presets except volume (full); threshold was at 4 and hunted all metal. A thanks again to Clive, the edges are easier to hear than previous hunt, but I don't think I'm anywhere near as tuned in yet as I got with the HHPulse. Got some old pull tabs, brass screws, other junk. I focused on faint targets; and this thing is deep. On one of the pennies, I started digging at belly deep and when I got it out, water was breaching the top of the chest waders when I stood on the scoop to sink it. The only things that a magnet sticks to are the one encrusted bottle cap and the big blob in the lower left corner that I think is an old furniture caster wheel. Right now for me, a three hour battery run is just fine. As cdv noted, this detector will get me in shape or kill me.
  13. I have to qualify that title, 90% of the bottle caps were found in the dry sand along with one plated ring. This is not a dry sand coin shooting machine...but I knew that going into it. Lots to learn yet on the machine, wanted to do some testing against the MDT today but unfortunately, the battery died prior to us testing. Most of the water hunting was done in All Metal, 10,5us due to choppy water, sensitivity was just under 4. Gold ring #2 for the AQ 10k, 2.15 grams with CZ's. No doubt in my mind that any other water machine would have got this one IF you got your coil over it. One scoop target. Major cramping on the scoop arm from all the digging. This machine will get me back into shape or kill me! Cliff
  14. Hunted mostly in tone mode. Set up reject with a small paper clip. Delay 7.5, Reject 6, ATS 7, Sensitivity 7, Threshold 4, Volume max. I did not play much with ATS. I am in brackish water in a pretty well protected environment so the water was flat. Did have a boat go by and the AQ was not affected by the 6 inch or so wake that washed over with the detector fully submerged and coil on the bottom. The threshold did have a little bit of warble from the boat. Changing freq did not seem to help. When the guy shut the engine down at his dock, the little bit of warble went away. I'm thinking his ignition system is transmitting the noise. I was surprised how quiet the AQ is in the water. I could run any delay. If sensitivity was higher than 7 there was some sounding on coil movement that was reduced when sweep was slowed to a crawl, but at 7 it was pretty quiet. As for the sounding when the connector dips in and out of the water; it does, but not any where near as bad as I had imagined from watching and listening to a couple of the posted videos. Would I pay more for a stainless connector with a reduction in the effect? Sure, but after actually experiencing it, I am kind of ambivalent about it. It retunes quicker than I would need if I were in waves that were at the connector level, so if I have a little cut close to shore on an ocean trip, I could deal with a wave hit at the connector and hunt between waves. How much the higher salinity at the ocean would change how it acts? Not sure. Coil does have a little float to it. Not bad, but would be nice to have it not float. I gave up with back pain at almost exactly 3 hours of running the AQ; battery was still going. The edge of the coil does help with pinpointing. I hit a few old pull tabs that were deep and took several scoops to dig out. Also got some small sinkers that were several scoopers. Moving the scoop close to see a tone break is kind of tricky. There is a very narrow window between getting a target tone break and the scoop being a greatly overwhelming influence. It is going to take some practice and some more ear learning. Overall, I'm very happy with the AQ so far. Most of the targets are right in the range I'm looking for. Even got one small ring, although it is a junk eaten up copper one.
  15. The site http://fisher-impulse.com is going to become annoying every time I visit it in hope of some update or information or something about AQ and you see the ''COMING SOON'' sign. Please put at least a picture of the AQ in there!!!
  16. With this weeks output, 8 units the last two weeks. Hope the trend continues and increases.
  17. Approximately 3 hour hunt (one battery), about 2 hours in the water in the Gulf. Water was almost flat with a slight current, bottom was rippled. This particular beach doesn't get many tourists and is somewhat out of the way, I didn't expect a lot of targets. Since I still have loads to learn on the machine, I didn't spend a whole lot of time with any specific setting as I was trying to see what adjustments did what. Hunted in all metal the entire hunt. I found you really need to hunt slow to avoid any rising threshold due to swinging into deeper water. Sensitivity adjustments and delay adjustments helped. The machine was more than useable in the water with the exception of the coil connector when it enters/exits the water. Odd thing on that was I thought I was shallow enough but the connector sticks out a good ways..... The tent stakes, sinker, and bottle caps were from the wet sand. The few other targets were from the water waist to chest deep. The dime seemed to be the deepest target at about 3 scoops deep give or take. There was no mistaking the ring as a target, it wasn't a whisper at all.....got it with the second scoop. Pinpointing the target prior to digging was easier with the 12" coil then I had thought it would be. Balance on this machine is really good for wet/dry hunting, however, it did take a few adjustments to my typical hunting style to have good coil control in the water, it does show you how "bad" your normal coil control may be.... You sure don't have to worry about when the battery is getting low, it lets you know when it is time to change batteries or go home! All in all, I'm liking this machine so far.... Cliff
  18. Getting ready to ramp up......what’s better than a AQ...... hmmmmm ....Two AQ’s Happy Trails jimpugh
  19. Got a chance to try the AQ on the wet slopes at one of my beaches. I spent most of the day waiting for a low tide so I could see how the AQ performed for me. This beach is generally protected, so the beach does not get ripped up very often from storms. The first part of the day was using my GPX for the dry sand. Late afternoon I spent 2 ¾ hours on the wet slope with the AQ. I ran mute exclusively with 7.5us. It ran very stable with almost no end of sweep falsing. Really nice and smooth. I am still learning, so I dug everything I heard (and even a couple of nulls) which ended up being a quarter and a toy car. The hair pins and long thin wires all gave a double beep, I will be passing on digging them from now on. I will probably live with digging the bottle caps as there are not as many on the wet slopes as there are on the dry sand. I did find 2 rings and was hoping for gold but stainless 316 and aluminum is all I could muster up. They did come in very strong and were in the 10-12” range. All in all, I am happy with the performance of the AQ and I am sure when I get some hours under my belt, I will be more confident in what to dig. I rarely give up on digging a target once I start, but I had to leave a nice deep small target. The water was filling up the hole and the sides caved in so many times that I gave up on it. This area of the beach has a layer of fine sand followed by a layer or small pebble and shell. The next layer has larger rocks locked together tightly. A small target was located somewhere in that last layer. Using the edge of the coil vertically as a pin pointer on the AQ works excellent. What does not work at all is Garrett's pin pointer in water. Even balancing it to the water does not help. I think if I had a better pin pointer, I would have located that target. Also, I am really liking the ease of using the AQ. It does not take you long to get used to how it works or how it sounds. I think it will work well for my type of beach hunting.
  20. This could happen to you!! Long slow romantic walk on the beach this morning. Almost 3 hours in it's time to change the battery. I take the battery off the detector to make the swap and look at it and holy cow the thing is bulbous! I suspect this is what happens when you don't practice safe charging. I was just thinking about the recent threads on the beautiful batteries OBN is making and thinking I don't need to get one, I've got two perfectly good batteries. I'm going to rethink that. HELP OBN! Tim
  21. This is my "field expedient" really low budget Connector Protector. My original plan was to simple add a piece of 3/4" pvc to the end of the shaft to protect that frail looking little connector in case a fall. That done I thought if I add a 90* elbow and a "tee" them it sorta kinda protects the battery also. If you decide to try this, the only little trick is the 3/4" pvc doesn't quite fit over the end of the detector shaft. You need to make sure the black end cap that has the connector is flush (may require a tiny bit of sanding). you need to heat your piece of 3/4" pvc with a heat gun and when it is soft slip it over the end and let it cool. It will be a very tight slip fit. You are good to go. Up next my pregnant battery. Tim
  22. Got in 4 hours Tuesday AM, started out with rough water but by 11 am things were calming down. Took me about 30 minutes of messing with the controls before I got it to run stable and under control, then I slowly adjusted the setting as the water calmed. Started out with the settings ....delay 11.5 (15) Sensitivity 6, ATS 8, All metal , volume I ran high the whole time with the threshold just audible.. ( The settings that really seem to calm the AQ in rough water is the delay and ATS ) And by end of day I cut the delay down to 11, sensitivity 4, ATS 6, all metal, volume 9, and threshold 4/5 just audible. It was purring like a kitten. Dug a lot of nickels, no silver coins, one nickel / silver ring (my first marked that) and one 1.5 gram 10k.. This spot I have passed thru with the excalibur a few times of late, I've yet to find targets the way the AQ does. Shallow targets here are trash so I keep on walking on those..I only dig faints here...and the ring was maybe 12/14 inch's? The AQ loves the small gold rings. First time out this year with the drysuit, It was 60 degrees with winds early am. I hate being cold...Plus on one of the other forums some one posted about some flesh eat bacteria and I had cuts on me from working in the yard Monday so best to be safe. All worked out good and glad I went that route. Video of..........cam has been on the blink of late, I think the problem is moisture inside of the Go Pro. As you can tell by the frosty video. I checked to see if i got the gold ring on video, it did, then I stopped the recording..... then it would not restart. Once home I checked and it started to work again. I just dropped it in a bag of rice to see if that will draw some of the moisture out.
  23. Just a short note on Joe’s “shorty” AQ battery. It fits well under the cuff and balance was not noticeably effected from the lighter than stock battery. Run time for me in “tone mode” was 6 hours 20 minutes. It is my understanding that in all metal it is approximately one hour less. The M12 (CTX) phones connector was a welcomed change and the power cable with a small loop and ninety degree connector also worked well. Get one of his battery set ups and avoid changing batteries in mid hunt, while they are available. I believe he has other set ups with even longer run times. Knocked it out of the park again Joe, thanks.
