  1. What an Awesome Day First target is 10 K gold ring found another gold not marked Hunted 7 hours two batteries My 22 1/2 ft Larsons ran great as usual on calm day can hit speeds 45 mph Happy trails jimpugh
  2. Hit local park and swapped my standard mode to normal mode on my MK for water hunting and figured I would try to get used to the normal number scale. Forgot what was trash and hand a nice round signal so I dug it anyways, came in solid 54 where nickels come in at 31ish. Turned out to be a nice 18k 4g wedding band few inches down. Was only out for less than an hour. Included all my wonderful trash.
  3. No rings today but still got my cu ni ag au. LOL Medallion is 2.1g of 10K and the chain is .925 Italy.
  4. Yesterday I took both the excalibur and the AQ hoping to use the AQ..but water was too rough so the excalibur got the call. I drank a lot of water yesterday...but it was worth getting out and enjoying the finally Sunny day. Best was a 1955 10k class ring and A couple silvers...Class ring still had the bandaid used to make it a fit her....Thanks for looking and Good Luck to everyone.. Walker was the last target of the day..jumped out of the scoop almost! Once in the day there use to be a forum who had ring daddies..You would post your rings up to be counted during the year. And by end of year there some amazing ring counts from many across the world. Most were North America with a few from the islands. I guess I'll be calling the rings I find ring daddies for years to come... it keep me organized, pictures, video's . charts and memories.
  5. When I purchased the Equinox 800 many moons ago the main reason was because of its reputation for being able to find gold chains. From bench testing I knew that it would indeed give a good tone and TID on a medium sized gold chain but, unlike many of my Nox toting brethren, my 800 couldn't seem to come up with that elusive target- until yesterday. Now I don't typically use the Nox at the beach, just fresh water, and that is probably the reason for my past struggles. In the wet sand at the beach, depending on conditions, many of the lightweight, low conductor targets are washed away so when you get a low TID number there is a better chance of finding something good as compared to the lake. At the lake, the low conductor targets like aluminum foil, bits of pull-tabs and bottle caps pretty much stay where they fall making it more challenging to find the small gold since the TID's are similar. Using the Nox in Gold 2 mode and with the 6" coil I spent all day at one of my favorite freshwater sites. I was finding lots of targets and quite a bit of it was trash but, usually, this spot rewards me for my efforts and after about 3 hours I had a couple of small gold rings. One of the rings came up with a quarter in the scoop so I'm sure that I was actually hearing the coin and just got lucky. My luck continued a short time later when I scooped out low TID and found a gleaming yellow gold chain bracelet. The bracelet was somewhat stiff so my guess is that it had been there a while. It is stamped "14K Italy" and weighs 4 grams. A couple hours later I was working in water a little over waist deep when I got a strong, repeating, "1" TID on the detector. It didn't take long to retrieve it and soon I was looking at a sight that I live to see- a long, clean, glistening, gold chain hanging over the edge of my scoop- what a sight! I love finding any gold but gold chains are so rare for me that these moments are special and surreal. The chain is stamped "14K", weighs 8 grams and is 22" long. My wife likes it so one small repair and it will once again take its place in the world above ground. Obviously, I did a whole lot of digging yesterday. Most of the other jewelry is costume jewelry but there are a couple of silvers in there. I was surprised with the number of nickels that I found. I rarely find more nickels than dimes or quarters. The funny looking staple shaped object on the bottom left was actually a ring at one time. It is stamped 925 and is turned inside out. A great day in the water for me. Even after finding the gold necklace I hunted a couple more hours trying to find more gold. I wish I could have gotten a video of the gold but I, AGAIN, had GoPro problems and my disk was saying full before I found my first piece of gold. Maybe next time. GL&HH!
  6. Got to the Outer Banks for a few days. One of the quieter water trips I've experienced there. Beautiful blue green water color. Saw lots of pelicans and dolphins. Nearly 8 seconds between waves for all four days we were there, although each wave would need to be ducked under or bounced up on to keep head above it. Unfortunately, surveying spots along about 6 miles of beach found deep soft sand in all areas checked. Slope was steep and all I was getting from the water were bottle caps and pieces of iron. Wet sand was giving nearly all iron too; so I spent most time on the dry sand. The beach was well streaked with black sand. Not much in the way of stuff found but did get one big ring. As soon as I saw it I knew it was junk. The plating was obviously coming off the ring and there just was not good color in the "stones". Oh well. Had a good time, ate lots of sea food.
  7. I've been going out irregularly over the last week or so. There has not been much to show and tell. Cheap rings and a few coins until today. Based upon the tide schedule I've been getting up before the sunrise and getting back early. Getting up that early doesn't mean you are the first detectorist to the beach. I took advantage of my senior parking pass and was out and going in a northerly direction which was 'behind' someone digging deep holes. They were leaving them open. I knew I would catch up with them and I would be screaming at them so I turned in the other direction. I found a nickel. Long walking without targets later I found a penny. There was no pattern, waves had been small so there was just a small muddy catch area. I was headed towards an all night beach where I'd found rings in the past but I've found rings all over these beaches by now. I got a nice loud signal, a 19 and just about 1" down. I thought it was a cheap ring and just put it away. I put it in my pouch and walked a few feet before I saw something I had to deal with but that will be a separate post. After I finished dealing with that glass I was wondering if I would find anything good, the good karma effect but it was only two quarter. It did turn out good when I got home and I could see .825 on the ring and it was gold. Google told me .825 means it is 19k! It is only 2.2 g but a nice little ring. Here were some previous trips.
  8. One 18k Art Deco ring...1930's, Diamonds and looks like it had blue stones that filled in the gaps.. one remains. 😢 Five Silvers, and a few other time period pieces...Almost 4 hours out..Jelly fish are gone.. were hundreds, ........seen 3.. Recon ..with Excalibur Report to myself.... 500 foot long area, Chest to shoulder deep ..parallel to shore..Markers 5 to the east..Marker 1 west....Markers are crab pot buoy's Sand moved in...more to the east, with some iron mixed, plenty of good targets between 1 and 3 markers, fades out 4 n 5.....area I was going to check with the "AQ" has now moved, covered by sand. . Coins seem to be further out between 1 n 3, One concentrated area of iron possible crab trap pieces (marker 2) Future..........AQ hunt area ........markers 1 to 2..and slope for deep gold in chest deep....from Markers 1 to 3. Gold ring found between Marker 2 and 3 bottom of slope...I feel sand on the slope holds gold for the pattern of this area most gold is found in the deep sand slope.......coins in the flat........... (Most of the bad targets are marked, holes dug and not filled on bad targets) Good for about two weeks, July 20th...... I can tell when I start to dig these targets for the consistency of the sand is different, softer. Be back to this beach when the water levels drop, things don't change much there unless major winds. Headed to another spot Saturday to get a damage report.
  9. I almost passed this one by, but fortunately stepped back to investigate. Glad I did.... Unfortunately I thought I was recording when I found the rind and I wasn’t 😭 I promise I’ll get it right week! Thanks for watching! Aaron
  10. As other members here have observed, we had a little sand movement at some local beaches. I didn't know that when I drove down with my TDI BeachHunter the first night but I knew the tides were favorable so I was hoping for some recent drops, at least. When I got down to the wet sand, the moonlight allowed to see some small cuts in the beach with some nicely angled slopes highlighted with streaks of black sand. Shortly after turning the detector on I started hitting targets with about every other step. I was digging so much trash that I started thinking that a non-pulse detector might have been a better choice. However, I was finding a few lead sinkers and clad coins and within the first hour I scooped out a nice sized men's ring which looked like the right color and felt good in my hand. A short time later I added a beautifully blackened silver band to cap off a relatively short but productive hunt. In my car I was able to make out a "14K" stamp on the gold ring. On the second night I picked up right where I left off the night before. I stayed with the TDI even though I knew that I would be digging lots of trash. I just love the way it belts out a tone on even small targets and soon dug a "soft" sounding signal that turned out to a medium sized gold chain that was stiffened from the time spent in the elements, an apparent sign of a lower carat chain. Over the next 6 hours I was digging non-stop finding lots of clad coinage, trash and jewelry although most of the jewelry was costume jewelry with a few pieces of silver in the mix. I had found 6 rings by this time but all were junk save one thin, wire silver ring. The sun had risen, the tide was rising, people were starting to show up and my second battery pack was nearing the end of its charge so I started working my way up the coast towards my car. Walking through areas I had hunted earlier in the dark I was finding a few more targets here and there and acquired a nice tone in the wet sand. A couple of quick scoops and I was staring at an unbelievably bright gold ring sticking out of the wet sand. Now I have found a lot of gold rings before but I don't know if any of them rivaled the sight I was currently witnessing. The color of the ring was impossibly rich and I could see that it was beautifully crafted. I was tempted to take a picture with my cell phone but there were so many people around that I decided against it. I picked it up (felt glorious in my hand) and calmly put it into my zippered pouch. I dug one more target before my battery died, a "SOG" multi-purpose tool which was still in pretty decent shape. The third hunt was pretty uneventful as the sand had filled back in pretty noticeably. Another St. Christopher medal and small tungsten ring were the best of it. As you can see in the last picture, the ring is stamped "21K" which is almost 90 percent pure gold. It and the gold ring from the night before weigh about 7 grams each. The gold chain weighs a little over 6 grams and was challenging to clean. Oxidation occurred on the back of each link where soldering had, apparently, taken place. Perhaps a hand made chain??? It also had a couple of knots that were frozen in place. 10K gold often becomes brittle after being in salt water for some time and sure enough, I snapped off about 2 inches from one end while trying to loosen up the links. Sorry for the lengthy post but thanks for reading! GL&HH!
  11. But luckily a gold one, 14k. I got up today for an early low tide hunt. I got to the beach at 1am and started my hunt with a buddy. An hour plus into the hunt and all we had was just aluminum and a couple of pennies even though we were covering from the mid upper slope to the waters edge of a negative tide. Since things weren’t looking good I decided to just cover a 10 foot wide section crossing between the damp and wet sand. About and hour later I dug this 14k beauty with real diamonds. I gridded that area and found nothing else in that section. The rest of the hunt was uneventful but my mission was accomplished so I was happy. Thanks for reading and good luck out there.
  12. A few weeks ago, inspired by some threads in the jewelry forum, I started shifting my focus from cherry picking coins, to digging possible jewelry signals using the Equinox 800. I actually started finding some, as shown in the first picture below. I was becoming a little frustrated, as (with the exception of one tiny silver ring), all I was finding was “crap” jewelry. That changed this morning. It’s been getting wicked hot here in Montana, so I’ve been out in the parks early. I was in one of the main city parks this morning (A park I’ve pulled a ton of coins out of, including a couple of Mercs and a war nickel), searching a different section away from the stage area where they have concerts, etc., when I got a solid 18/19 signal, consistent in all directions. I’ve dug many, many signals in this range, and most turn out to be some sort of can tab, but those signals have always been kind of "janky" and change or disappear with the direction of the swing. This one did not. I pinpointed. I dug. The target was right at the bottom of the plug. A glint of gold! I popped it out with my finger to reveal my first gold find! 4.74 grams of 10k plain gold band, with a current melt value of almost $125.00! Yes, I did a gold dance! This one find helped codify what signals I could/should/might be looking for. I know it’s not the end all be all, but the signal was SO strong and clear compared to all the aluminum tabs I’ve dug, the contrast was revelatory. I feel I’ve made a huge leap in understanding. The ring has an inscription and a date from 20 years ago, so I think I will put a craigslist ad in lost and found. Still a noob. ~Bash
  13. Last Monday I thought I’d ry out my new waterproof GoPro 8 Black at the lake, and ended up leaking, so much for being water proof. 😡 So anyway I ended loosing my video. I ended finding a nice old gold signet ring, not too deep, and a big tungsten, alotta clad, some aluminum ect. That tungsten ring was DEEEEEP! The guy who lost it must been a big dude, it’s a big ring. Those crummy rings are so heavy it’s no wonder their always at least a foot deep! Check out the link for more pics.https://forums.tarsaccisales.com/forum/5/last-mondaysome-gold-and-tungsten Thanks looking....Aaron
  14. I was approached by a young man (wearing a mask) today on the beach that I was metal detecting on. He ask me if my metal detector could find a medallion that he had lost when his chain had broken. He then said it was gold. I told him that gold was what I was looking for on the beach and said, Let's go find it. He and his buddies had been tossing a football around and that was when his gold chain had broken and the medallion had dropped into the dry sand and disappeared. I said, "I hope this is your lucky day". Two minutes later I ask his if it was "Jesus on the cross". He said "yes" and I handed it back to him. It took all of about 5 minutes of my time and made his day. I love this hobby!
  15. Had some great winds, zero, .......smooth water, .........and fairly good tide. In the water about 3 hours, could not had been better. Other then the boats and jetski's , seemed everyone want to cruise close to shore, three times I had to flag them past. Two gold rings, 8 silver Washington's...
  16. Last week I posted a picture and write-up of a nice lake hunt I had. So today I am cleaning some of the silver from that hunt but one small silver ring is looking quite yellow compare to the other silver items. I put on my glasses and sure enough, it is stamped "417" for being 10K gold. It's not the biggest ring at 1.2 grams but it's kind of cool looking and bumped my total gold weight up a notch! Sure was a nice little surprise.
  17. The first night I went out with the update I went to a beach that I often detect as a test. I could not complete the beach so I went back out again last night. When I got down to the wet sand of the beach and started quickly walking toward my area the 'noise' was awful. I had not changed any settings from less than 24 hours before but I could not keep a smooth sound at 23. What had happened, had I 'imagined' the smoother, better quality sound? (I thought I was going to have to retract all the good things I said about the update.) I couldn't take it any more after about 15 minutes and had to lower the sensitivity. I went down to 20 and it gave my head and ears a rest. I detected a few targets but knew this was not how I wanted to detect on the way to my beach. It would be too shallow. I pushed the sensitivity back up and to my pleasant surprise the noise did not come back with the increased sensitivity. As a matter of fact I could go up to 24 and stay smooth later in the hunt but for now it was stable and I was on the move. The targets came slow while I walked fast to my spot. (I know I miss deep targets walking fast.) When I got there I was disappointed also with the upside of my beach. The waves had been small over the last 24 hours and targets were not really on the 'move' in my zone where I've found gold and silver already this year. At the turnaround I had a few quarters and pennies but nothing else. Then I decided to slowly walk back with the little waves on my left and the wet sand on the right. I got a ring! (The cheap little stone ring.) That made me relax. I circled and found some other targets. A pattern was developing. This was a recent lost jewelry beach! Small waves had grouped targets at the bottom of the hill at low tide. I didn't go back up for the 1 hour back. I stayed within 20 feet of the wet sand. I got the steel ring. (10) And then finally I got the lion's head ring. That one was a surprise. I had been digging 15s and 16s in the area with a nickel (13) here and there and this target was not deep and it crackled a bit. When I looked in the scoop I saw this massive ring. The band reminded me of silver. It looked like it had been resized but the numbers didn't say silver. When I got back at 3 AM I looked and still thought there was a chance it was silver. It weighs .85 oz. I researched it before I did this post and it is a titanium ring that sells for about $10. Bummer. I ended up with 4 rings. and some other goodies including an old watch body. It was a fun hunt even tho it was not very valuable. I didn't have any more issues with the noise. I went back over the area that had affected me in the beginning and it was smooth and I dug a target there. Down about 3 inches was a black sand and gunk layer that also had a stink. I don't know what caused it but it was no longer a problem. Making an adjustment to the sensitivity and then adjusting back is something I'll remember for a future noisy session. Mitchel
  18. With winds out of the east helped push the tide out more and keep the waves down, 2 silver rings were chin deep both were got on the third scoop with a lot of kicking of sand between the second and third. the band 7 grams 14 k white was waist deep. TDI BH did its job today.
  19. Seen a open window to get in a few hours Saturdays late lowtide. Not much day light but second target of the day a old 18k wedding band. Gave a null but I've had some good luck digging them of late so I went for it. About 12 plus inch's down things started sounding good. Not sure how deep it was but did take me about 9 minutes from start to finish. Once home I seen the inscription...Kind of though it said Sept, but after real close inspection I came up with Apil..which I think is April...I can only imagine Richards and Amy's tear's...MY guess it was lost the late 1800's.... Time to get back on the "AQ" Battery Project...been playing to much..
  20. Ok, I need a little help on this one. I recently dug a spinner ring on a beach. It appears to be a very wide (about 1/2 inch wide) silver inner ring with a gold outer ring with about 28 diamonds on it. There is a marking on the silver ring on the outside beneath the gold ring that says 925A2. It rang high on the Equinox when I found it so I assumed it was just a silver ring. But then I tested the diamonds and they tested positive. I have an AuRacle AGT1 Plus electronic gold/platinum tester that has been spot on testing 10K, 14K,18K as well as silver, SS, Tungsten, and other rings as NA. The tester keeps saying the silver ring is 18K and the spinner ring is 14K. I think that because the two rings are touching, it is giving me the wrong reading on the silver ring. There are no hallmarks on the inside of the silver ring be it does have a potential makers mark that looks sorta like a clover leaf and an inscription that appears to say Be Lovziends. I am attaching pics in the hopes that someone can tell me about this ring. The next to the last pic shows the 925A2 but is a bit blurry. Thanks for looking and any info would be greatly appreciated, Joe PS It air test 35 on the Equinox one way and 20 holding the ring the other. Again, I think that the two rings together are giving off mixed signals.
  21. This is a very cool ring I found in my great grandfather’s finds. It has a blue stone (I think it is plastic). It is 18kt gold plated. It says United States job corps on it. It has some eagles on it and it says e pluribus unum (out of many one) on it.it looks really cool. Does anyone know what year(s) it could be from? It may have a brand name inside but I can’t make it out even with a magnifying glass. Let me know if anyone has any knowledge about this cool ring! Also, when I found it in my bag, I almost got it stuck on my ring finger! It look me a minute to get if off. I’m never putting that on my finger again! Picture coming soon! Sorry if I am on the wrong forum.
  22. Been a week or more since I've been out. Had family in town then the tides have been insanely high with the Storm Faye coming up the coast...But watching conditions get a little better Monday then Tuesday I could not set another day out. Four hours today............ two gold rings, both came in the third hour after working another area I felt was better...but only held silver. Excalibur got the call today for the "live buoy's system" web site was down.....been nice to have had the "AQ" for going into the third hour the water was like glass!
  23. Went back to the spot I hit the 2 gold from Weds...Again did not find gold til later in the hunt, this time it was a good deep one which I am sure the "AQ" would have got very easy. The target was a Null with the Excalibur when I dug the first two scoops, but then as I got closer with the coil the target started to sound good and like a sinker. Once out of the maybe 14 to 15 inch hole it was a nice surprises to see a Big Yellow. Also got in a few more rough looking silvers... Fall hits and the "AQ" is going to be all over this place...Right now ..water is just to deep for me to be getting signals I can't dig...I was chin deep when I dug this gold...Come on Fall! And sorry video is short, to much back ground showing. Best to keep these spots hidden from watching eyes...... No name on the Military ring.......5th INF. DIV. Red Devils...My guess would be WWII or Korea era ...My first 8k gold ring...Gold333 And Jelly fish are out here...No problem for I am fully covered, but I did see a few people swimming....
  24. ...to my uncle! I was detecting a local park when I got a solid 55 at 4 inches with the simplex. When I dug it out I saw a big fat ring in the hole! My uncle was visiting our house and when I showed him the ring he immediately took it and said is this tungsten? Yes, I replied confused. He said I lost this 2 years ago on my last visit to your house! I was in the park and when I got home it wasn’t on my finger! I was stunned and I happily offered it to him. He thanked me a million times and almost cried. It feels really good to make someone’s day especially your uncle! Thanks for looking!
