  1. It was time for a hunt ... but I've done that each of the last few nights. Last night's hunt was better on the counts but it came up a bit short on the value. The first ring of the night I thought was my best until the next morning. I was finally able to read a 14kt GF. Bummer. It came in as a 21 so I'm not too surprised. Some of the other rings. An odd mix. The one missing the 'stone' is silver. Here are more pictures of the loot. The bottom of the aluminum can above was found down over 20 inches. I hate those digs but they sound so good. I've also included some pictures of previous hunts just to show the difference in nights. This last tray includes 3 rings and of note was one of my best 'spoon rings' ever. What is a spoon ring you say? It was once a silver spoon that was chopped off at the end and shaped into a ring. Notice the overlapping design which would allow for some adjustment and expansion.
  2. I had been watching the thread by Dan(NM) entitled "What Would You Do In This Situation?" with more than just an observer's interest as I also found a Texas A&M University 10K gold ring on July 15. (I guess those Aggies have rings to throw away) LOL While I checked Craigslist, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and local groups such as Nextdoor, I didn't find any listing of "Lost Ring" on anything. Google provided me with 66 listings with his name. I watched the progress Dan(NM) was making (or not making) with the Texas A&M Ring site and knew that was probably not the way to go as his ring was 2019 and the one I found was 2006. That is a lot more years for changed addresses and phone numbers. I started my search looking for someone about 38 years old who might have graduated in 2006. Not coming up with any leads I expanded my search to some older individuals, as being a "later college grad myself" I knew the age may need to be expanded. It took several weeks of part time research to whittle the list down to a handful of possible owners. Facebook turned up the best leads and by drilling down into his family members FB pictures, I was able to locate one man who wore a large ring on his right hand in several pictures. And he happened to have a thesis printed by A&M for his Doctrine Degree in 2007 but submitted it in 2006. Back to Google again and I came up with an email address for a Professor at a university and sent him an email entitled "I found a Texas A&M University Ring"... for a subject title and then simply said "If this sounds familiar reply back to me and if not sorry for your time. I got a response within 10 minutes. I then sent him my phone number and we had a nice 15-minute chat about the ring. To say he was excited would be an understatement. He told me the name of the beach and the location on the beach where he thought that he had lost it. Within an hour of the first email, the ring was in the mail and on its way home. That is a big chunk of gold out of my inventory for the year but it was only a piece of gold to me, it was 16 years of memories for him.
  3. 5 trips to the desert detecting with no gold.....my last beach gold was late last winter......oh sure, this summer I've found my share of silver and junk gold plate like all of you but that's it. Recently I decided to change things up and go back to where it all started for me on the beach- dry sand hunting at night with a gold detector. I set my TDI up on "Low Conductor" in order to only hear the high tone targets. This of course means you hear pull tabs, twist-offs, gold, nickels, etc.....no silver, dimes, quarters, and the like. The TDI will however, go into freak-out audio when you run across a quarter on the surface. I sometimes dig these signals if boredom kicks in. Anyway, I hunt dry sand by locating a good trash zone, and then griding tightly as if you were on a gold patch. Good trash to me is aluminum, deep rusted twist-offs and deep nickels. At the beach I was searching there was nothing along the towel line- not even any trash. I started working the zone behind the towel line, going back beyond the lifeguard towers. No consistent targets there either, so it was time to venture into no-man's land, where I immediately recovered an 18k gold filled chain. Here I picked up a nice trash debris field which contained deep nickels and deep aluminum. That's when I popped out a stainless ring, and griding low and slow, got this loud freak-out target response on the TDI. 3 things I knew about the target- it was large, close to the surface, and not gold. 1 shallow scoop and the bracelet was in my pocket- thought it was a bling watch until returning home to see the hallmark.....David Yurman Albion .925 diamond bracelet. Not gold, but I'm going to stretch the mileage of this find until the gold shows up.....Jerry
  4. After finding the David Yurman Bracelet I took weeks off detecting in order to recover from a nagging pulled muscle in my middle back. A few days ago I went to a local beach to test the back and see if there was anything to be had in the wet. One spot had several good sounding targets that turned out to be quarters and dimes, + a few pieces of deep iron that fooled me. After walking down the beach aways I returned to this spot and started a tight grid going in the other direction. I quickly pulled out a junk silver plated ring, and just a foot away, this bomber came up for air. Emanuele Bicocchi designer .925, weighing in at a more that respectable 20 grams. Short 2 hour hunt. Still 0 for 2022 on the gold, but I'm OK with this. -Jerry
  5. I did another fresh water hunt and even though gold was a no-show, 6 rings, 2 silver neck chains along with coins and LOTS of trash make me think that the gold is there. In looking at the smaller silver chain I'm reminded of the knife scene from "Crocodile Dundee". At 4 grams, the thin silver chain is nice but at 30+ grams for the other one, now THAT'S A CHAIN! 🙂
  6. I'm not by nature a superstitious dude but this morning's find has to be an omen.. It's the metal detecting Gods telling me to buy an Manticore.. 😬
  7. Today I went to a short hunt after dropping off my son at TK. The tide was getting up so I had to use a different search pattern. My second target was the silver ring. It is 6.7g with an interesting pattern. It says 925 i + h ??? Don't know exactly what that means but I'll look it up. The second ring came about an hour later. It is an unmarked, homemade Quora design, but feels like gold. It comes in at a 17 on the Nox. I went to Wilshire Coin and had them tell me what it is and they say it is about 13k but they are conservative. It weighs 7.4g. It was a good hunt.
  8. Last night I had a very slow start but when I ended, I had 6 rings! The first ring (black) is the Lord's Prayer Ring in Spanish. The last ring may be the best. My first gold ring in a few months. It was down over 12 inches and was just a wobble at first. It reminded me of nugget hunting. As I got closer it got better. This was at the end of a 4 hour session so I was tuned in for the deep little sounds by then. I was in one of the deepest patches I've ever had at this beach. It is marked 14k and has a Mexican coin in the center. It is just over 4 grams. A previous dig had me finding a Cartier! I've looked it up and those are the right markings but I think it is fake. We'll see later. It only weighs 4.3 grams and I think it should weigh more if it is 18k. And here are the other junk rings for the total of 6.
  9. When the beach doesn't look too promising I am fortunate to have a few lakes to hunt. This particular lake that I hunted gets pounded by pirates but after a busy weekend I was hopeful for a few fresh drops. I can't remember when I last used the Excal for a fresh water hunt but I decided to give it a go. I found the 14K white gold band and $20/$10/$5 dollar bills early in the hunt in about 4ft of water which sure made the rest of the hunt more relaxing. I have found paper money in this lake before but not in a while so finding $35 was a real treat. Next time I'll have to bring a mask and snorkel to swim through the "money garden" before the boats and wind mess with the visibility. The "gold" chain was an eyeball find and is stamped "10k". It looks really good but seems too light at 4 grams. Even though I found a decent number of coins, many of them are tarnished or corroded. Obviously, many had been there a while so I think a lot of the guys that hunt there just go for the quick and shallow fresh targets. GL & HH!
  10. My last two hunts netted me gold and yellow. The chain on the scale is 24”, 14k marked and tested, weight as shown. Finally found a pair of gold earrings in the water … but of course they were plated. Few deep quarters and 2 more junk chains. The next week …. It was this stuff that really looks good in the scoop. I knew right away that ring was bad news….. but the chain and earring was looking good as I quickly tucked them in my pouch. But nope …. More junk. The necklace was open so I detected around and about 3’ away got a 1X1” dangle with a C…. That looked really good but tested really bad.
  11. This one had my heart rate going for about 2 seconds until I saw the 925 on the inside. I knew immediately that no 925 ring would have an authentic diamond of that size. Turned out to be zirconium. Mary said that although it had a nice sparkle, I should keep it with my other junk rings! 😂
  12. I got out this morning to look for a ring and while I was unsuccessful in finding it I did get this nice 18k consolation prize.
  13. Got out day before yesterday early morning. A beach hunt totally skunked me, I've been keeping that small local beach clean. 🤣 Decided to hit this place that is incredibly trashy to see if I could find anything. There was a house here from recorded history (1917 topo) to about 2014. The last renters were rough on the place, the property owner evicted them and knocked the house down. I used historic aerials to get an idea of the area the house covered, looks like they had a shed and carport too: This is the spot now that would be facing the house. Tree on the left has a swing on it, about a year ago I dug a lot of older modern coins (no silver) and some interesting relics here. It was an incredibly humid and hot morning so I only spent a couple hours here, the grass cuttings were sticking to my shoes making snowshoes that were difficult to remove 😀 The last people here were very fond of alcohol apparently, the spot is loaded with aluminum bottle caps and other assorted junk. Lots of aluminum cans. I brought the Deus 2 with me as it does a great job ignoring iron, there is a lot of that here too. I used the XY screen in a modified General program, disc at 10. Listening to the tones and watching the graphic was very helpful but I still dug a lot of junk: The large nickel plated brass ring for example was a solid 93. 😀 Ended up with 5 3/4 pennies, 4 Zincolns and 2 copper memorials, oldest was 1974. I had found a bunch of wheats here last year but more modern coins. It's possible that this spot was cherry picked for silver. I searched around where the tree swing was again, and amid a lot of aluminum tones I got a faint but repeatable 91. Dug down about 6-8", and got half a sterling Fede Gimmel ring. Yay. It's the half that doesn't have the sterling Hallmark. This is the second of this kind of ring I've found hunting yards in this area, got a whole one last year which I am giving to the landowner with some other relics in a 3x5" Riker box. These date from the 1920's to the 40's, (before "925") maybe from a local jewelry store long gone. They have a pin holding them together and can be separated to share. Here's an interesting link about these: https://www.jewelryshoppingguide.com/gimmel-rings-guide/ Pretty scant hunt but at least I got silver. 😀 There ya go NC! 🤣
  14. ...it wasn't. After 3 hours in the wet sand I had only found a few coins but I wanted to hit one last spot before calling it a day. I was pretty sure that it was going to be a long, disappointing drive home but soon after reaching the area I wanted to check I got a nice, loud signal on the Excal. I switched to "disc." and got a smooth full tone and had the target in my scoop on the first try. A quick rinse in the surf revealed a nice silver colored band in the bottom of my basket. I could tell that it was a fresh drop silver ring and when I picked it up for a closer look I was underwhelmed by the design and thought, "Oh well, another one for the melt pile." I was pretty shocked when I looked inside the ring and saw "Gucci" "Made in Italy" and "Ag 925" stamped inside. A few weeks ago I found what I thought was a nice gold chain (see picture) only to find that it was plated. Now I found what seemed to be a garden variety silver ring that is pricey "designer" jewelry. You just never know! https://www.gucci.com/us/en/pr/jewelry-watches/silver-jewelry/silver-rings/guccighost-ring-in-silver-p-477339J84000701
  15. Today on the way to the bank, I had to make a deposit because my pin pointer broke, so I need a new one so I stopped to look for Gold and instead found two silvers, the merc suprized me because i was not looking for silver , I had dug 17 dimes and one was silver and also found a nice sterling ring with what looks like a black onyx stone. I was hunting with my ORX in coin deep ,17.2 khz, 2 sweep speed, 7 disc, and 70 gain also found a 1937 dime
  16. I was so excited to be going to the beach camping for 6 days, couldn't wait to get out there! It's a nice RV park right on the coast, with condos on one side and a small hotel on the other. Not a ritzy one. There is also a public access parking lot next to the hotel. That view is from the top of my RV. Every morning I got up at 5 to get out to the beach at 6. There's probably about 40 miles of beach here, I only covered about 2. On the first day I used the Equinox, didn't get much at all. It broke out raining so I had to quit. For the rest of the week I used the Deus 2 with a modified Beach Sensitive program, and did a bit better. I'll make a long story short because every day was the same, go out, get rained on, come back. 🤣 I got out a couple evenings too, because the thunderstorms cleared the beach. By 10:00 it was packed. Here's the total haul: $7.52 in modern coins, some jewelry, most of it junk except for this nice tungsten band with koa wood and abalone inlay. The band under it on the ring stand is stainless with pink CZs. I did get a very tiny silver chain with the religious medal and the wing, and one earring is probably silver. The stud is a CZ. The really small ring is marked 9.15 and 22, two medallions, one chrome and the other gold plated. The toe ring is silver plated zinc or copper and the bottom bit is copper with CZ's. The trash was horrendous but I never dug a single tent stake. Both detectors identified them correctly. Most of it was foil and pull tabs and sighted bottle caps. My most incredible find came on the last morning at low tide, it was about a foot down: A 1944 wheat penny in the best condition I have ever seen! 😀 It's like a kid stole it from the parent's proof collection and lost it, or it was a lucky fishing penny. 😀 Got a couple Matchbox cars, one from 2007 and the other 1993. All in all it was pretty disappointing, but I blame that on economics and bad weather. 🙂 I did meet a few detectorists out there, one guy that was just gridding the entrances and then started following me around for the first two mornings, but he didn't want to talk 😀 Another guy was out training his son with a White's Coinmaster, he found absolutely nothing but pull tabs and bottle caps, so he asked me what to upgrade to so he could get near the surf. I told him to get an Equinox or a Legend. The third one was funny, a guy I met on the beach a year ago swinging a Sovereign, this time he had an Equinox 800 and a 15" coil. He only had a hand scoop so I helped him dig a great signal that turned out to be a vaping device 🙄 One of my friends was watching us on the live beach camera and got this screen shot: I don't think he got much either.
  17. found a nice old signet ring 18k I have only a side shot ,only the owner will know what is engraved on the top, and inside of the ring I will be making an attempt to find who owns this ring, I was using my ORX detector, in coin fast,17.2khz, and a 2 recovery speed and gain turned down to 80 ,it gave a VDI of 65 same as all the pull tabs, the pencil erasers where cumming in at the 70,s digging all the zincs the other detector guys left me this is now the 4th gold ring this year for me and one silver . Also the butter fly pendant is marked 925 so found some silver to the rest is bling, bling
  18. Well the other detectors only left me a few coins, but no one was digging the tabs and the junk foils and can slaw, or zinc pennys so I had my XP -ORX in coin deep 17.2khz 70gain and 2 on recovery speed, digging all tabs and junk foils and i got a very low number 48-49 wich can be gatorade tops and foils and small can slaw but up came this brass looking thing, but it seemed heavy so i put it in my pocket and finished the day thinking i got nothing but bling , but when i got home I seen the 14k stamp on the back , and weighed it 3.25 grams of 14 k gold , I suppose when dogs spar in a dog park , they go for the neck and thats when sabastion lost his collar and in the shock of the moment both owners moved away from each other leaving this nice Gold Dog pendant , and i was dumb enough to be digging the junk foils and found it
  19. I offered to help find a ring …. which I didn’t find. But you get that when people THINK they know where they lost it. It was dry sand so I moved on out in the water. I picked up some tiny targets… high conductors just to show even in the salt water the machine does well. The one chunkier is 10.5 grams the other who’s stones are junk is 2 grams both 14k. The odd piece is the one with 24 on it. It has a CB on the back and both test strong for 14k. I use an earth magnet to test for SS…. NADA so I’m not certain what it is….. oh well. 6 hours in the water …. Pure fun. By the way those tiny targets take effort when ya have a scoop with 1/2 holes. Again a learned skill.
  20. Hit the beach yesterday using the dues 2. Still getting used to the machine....the ring and Raiders pendant are both 14k tested. The gold ring was a 48 and the pendant was a 68 I believe...there is lots of trash on this freshwater beach. I was using Sensitive FT hunting in and out of the water. An interesting thing was when I changed from my behind the ear factory head phones to my Tony Eisenhower water headphones things sounded worse...meaning the iron tones did not sound as good as they did with the WS6. I was using the iron tones to help identify the bottle caps it worked really good. The Eisenhower headphones have to be used in the bone phone mode...Not sure what I’m going to do now. The rings on the finger were from another day. All junk except for the silver one. HH Strick
  21. digging the aluminum again tody, and found a nice 14 k yellow gold ring I was using the XP-ORX and in the deep program 75gain, 2 recovery speed, 17.2khz and 7 disc the ring s VDI was 49,50 really getting in with the junk foils Its made by Aurelie GI and is solid 14 k they recycle old jewellery and make new rings with it this is now ring number 3 for 2022 made from gold , just amazing how the grass can conceal things
  22. O,K guys i hunt with the ORX, and use the x35 coil I was running in coin fast , 11.6khz. recovery of 2 , and 85 gain, i was running disc at 35 and i got what i thought was a iron object, It poped like a bottle cap and gave a big low signal ,but i decided to dig this piece of iron out ,but when i turned up the ground i got a clear 95 with no low a quarter signal , so i wanted to get the iron i heard and then heard a solid 65 with no low at all clear as day well up come a nice 14 k diamond studded gold ring , the only thing I can say is the two targets where touching one another and somehow came thru as flat iron would sound . very glad I dug it Gold ring 2 this year . I also found a nice 925 necklace as well in a different location. The ring weighs in at 1.856 grams 14k
  23. out of an old farm field, today's great find , a silver ring marked 925 which stands for 92.5% pure silver the rest made up of copper for strength
  24. A bit of a weird one this morning.. a 1949 3-pence made into a pin.. maybe a hat pin or earing.. it's my first find with the Deus II at a place I call the 'silver mine'.. this spot continues to surprise me with not just its old silver coins but also gold jewellery.. I like this little pin, someone did a good job soldering the post to it..
  25. Today was the kind of day you hope for detecting. Breezy and in the 70s this morning, never got above 82. There is a pond in the remote area of this park next to the farmhouse site. I wanted to hunt this area again with the Equinox and the 10x5 coil that I didn't have last year. This small spot produced a bunch of modern coins in the fire pit, one of them was melted somewhat, but it I think it's negotiable. This spot must have been a target area, there are hundreds of bullets here, all giving a a 15-17 or 19-21 ID. 😵 Had to restrict myself to 23 and above here. Next I went to this spot east of the farmhouse, I found an Indian head or two and a large cent (smooth) here last year. I dug one IHP, a bunch of newer coins, and a very old medal in 3 pieces, all joined by rings that fell off - they were rust. After finishing up that field I hit the tent campsites which are all empty. Hoped I'd find some jewelry and ended up with a sterling wave toe ring and a bunch of modern coins - they just kept popping. 🥳 Here's the loot, 29 coins, I thought the IHP was an 1867 but it may be a 1907. Again I got at least 1 of everything, and a 1975 Canadian penny. Zincolns on the bottom. $3.00 in spendy change, the IHP goes on display. Also got a rose bush tag. I never knew they had serial numbers. 😀 The medal on the right is 3 pieces, the bottom piece is turned upside down to display "1667" I think. It had something on the other side as well, looks like maybe a cannon. Each piece has some sort of scene cast on both sides, but they have so much bronze disease it's going to take some work and maybe some chemicals. It was 10"+ down, and each piece was a 25 ID. Here's the IHP: Your guess is as good as mine. 😵 Last is the toe ring, it's really small. Matches other wave rings I've found. It doesn't have a hallmark, that's the reason for the question mark on the title but I'm pretty sure it's sterling. I think the Equinox is king here, but I'll try the Deus again, I've extended my stay 3 more days. 🙂 I'm also going to give a third detector a go... 🤔
