  1. Interesting video which was linked on the Dankowski forum. Not perfect (as none ever is), but worth a watch, IMO. It's not typical of ones I've seen. (Pretty sure this isn't posted here yet....)
  2. I should be getting my new deus II by next weekend. I’ve been using a Whites TRX for the past four years and I really like it. The thing I don’t like is that it’s not very loud and I have to pull one side of my headphones off to hear it. The MI6 connects wirelessly to the deus II so I’ll be able to hear it through the headphones which would be really nice (at least I think so). How does the MI6 stack up to the TRX in performance though? The only other pinpointer I have is a deteknix (Quest) Xpointer which works well, but isn’t quite as deep as the TRX and not nearly as sensitive to small items as the TRX. So with my limited experience with pinpointers should I spend the money on the MI6?
  3. Would it be possible to have the RC on the stem and have the WS6 puck in a pocket, with the bone conduction headphones attached to it?
  4. I am starting to think the main goal with D2 was saltwater. XP already has machines aimed at dry land coin and relic (Deus 1), and a gold nugget detector (ORX). To expand the line, beach was the obvious weak spot, and marketing says cannibalizing existing product sales is a bad idea. Multifrequency has long been considered better than single frequency in a salt environment. And the Deus 2 being designed for up to 60 foot immersion screams water detector. That, and all the photo emphasis on the website showing underwater use. I sold detectors for decades. Here is the discussion I want to have. Person says they want detector, I say “what for” - what is the primary goal? Most machines are multipurpose now, but what’s your main interest? If it’s coins and relics I’ll probably say get a Deus 1. If it’s gold prospecting, I’ll probably say get the ORX. And salt water beaches, then get the Deus 2. Simple, makes sense, a salesperson would love it. We could talk about D1 vs D2 for coins and relics, but I’d point out the D1 is a better price, way more coil options, and a proven winner. Or, if you are the sort who wants the latest toy, and I’d know fast, I’d shift you to the D2 instead. Long story short, if your product line is missing key categories, it makes more sense to fill that empty slot, then to replace something you already have. Once a company fills all the slots, then upgrading old models in a round robin fashion becomes the norm, as with Minelab at this point. Newer companies like Nokta/Makro and XP are still filling out the lineup. And let’s face it, in underwater, Minelab has pretty much owned it as of late, with almost nobody running an XP at the beach. I think they wanted that to change. To sum up: Deus 1 = coin and relic, also good for gold prospecting, and non-salt jewelry ORX = gold prospecting, also good for coin and relic, and non-salt jewelry Deus 2 = saltwater jewelry, also good for coin and relic, gold prospecting Anyway, just my morning coffee thought for the day, that’s all. Don’t take it for more than that.
  5. Hi all, just come back from testing Deus 2. Little test in Goldfield program which I’d like to use for relic hunting, little targets on high mineralized fields. I did a little thin foil target and put in the bottom of a 6” hole. Nice result and next time I’ll dig a 8/10 hole with the same target in the bottom of the hole. Soil is very hot, looking the bar. Disc IAR was 3 and in this way I can discriminate iron. Little pieces of iron are a problem but it’s a program I will 100% use again in very difficult areas like these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxhB7N_Jtps&t=2s
  6. I wish they would have left manual ground balance as an option in all programs. It's only available in mono. I'm already finding myself needing the fine adjustments of manual ground balance the Deus 1 offered. I guess they figured it wasn't needed with the multi programs. Being able to adjust GB manually allows you to squeeze a little more depth out a machine in bad dirt. It can also be used to tune out small pockets of mineralization that may have not been present at the site you GB'd on. One reason ground notch would have also been nice. Probably not a big issue for most and I can live without it. But I really wish they would have left manual GB as an option.
  7. Carter Penningtons, owner of Detector Pro did a depth test with nickels and wood yardsticks. Different beach, different results.
  8. Here is the video I did comparing various metal detectors on the buried gold nuggets. You can see in this video which ones do better on various size nuggets. Take this test with a grain of salt. Mineralization, nugget shape, target depth and site conditions will all effect detector performance. This is just a test I did in Arizona so your area could be much different and the nuggets were freshly buried.
  9. Here is Montes Nail Board Test I did with the 11" coils. It's indoors probably not the best of EMI conditions. But it's the best I could do for now.
  10. Here's a video of the Deus 2 and Equinox on the buried dimes at 6 & 7 inches. There are a number of things I forgot to do in these videos that I just didn't think about at the time. So they are just an idea of how the detectors perform. I'll have more videos coming with gold nuggets being ran over with various machines and the actual use of the Deus 2 and Equinox in the field nugget hunting. With work and trying to sort out video footage from 3 different sources it may take a few days. I'm open to any comments about what I did wrong or should have done differently. As well as being open to any of you that currently own the Deus 2 and how to set it up in different ways.
  11. does it get the same depth as the D1 on clean soil ?? or is there an increase ?
  12. Now I am not starting a fight hear but I own a Tarsacci, and was wondering has anyone compared the two detectors, i would like to know
  13. I casually found this video, looking for other frequency related things, but I found even more interesting this one, cause of the latest discussion on salt falsing and tiny, thin, micro or call it like You want but gold. I'm a scuba diver, so I have specific needs, but all of You beach hunters in saltwater can add obviously your point of view. So, fact N.1, the Orx and the Deus 1 are involved in this test and seems pretty clear that not having available multiple different tones, the Emi is terribly in a mix of signals and among those, the ring can be easily missed and misunderstood without fault. I think on the Deus2 in the saltwater can be almost the same thing...Especially running frequencies over 20 Khz. Fact N.2, with a different tone set, the saltwater falsing can be in someway identified with a specific tone if not so variable on the TID range....I don't want to affirm this, maybe to ask is the right way.... I don't know if I'm seeing an open window for the gold fever or just a dream...So feel free to write any thought You may have..
  14. Steve if this needs to be moved to the comparisons section, please do. Thanks This will be the only forum I post anything about the Deus 2 on. I've seen the cat fights on the other forums and I'm just not into it. I know there are a few on here that want to know if the Deus 2 will handle mineralized ground. Keep in mind these are my initial thoughts and they may change as I spend more time with the Deus 2. I will have videos I'll post after I get home to show the Deus 2 in action. I got the Deus 2 yesterday and have spent about 10 hours with it testing stuff, going through the manual, going through the menus and using it in the field. Currently I'm in Arizona on a nugget hunt. I was hoping I would have the Deus 2 for this trip and it made it just in time. Mine came with the 11" coil and I have a 9" on order. The 11" obviously isn't the best coil for nugget hunting so keep that in mind with what I have to say. Before I get into the actual field use results I wanted to say a few things about what others have mentioned with their initial thoughts. Calabash has said a few times that if you have a Deus 1 the Deus 2 is very much the same and I will totally agree with that. The transition will be pretty easy for those who are experienced Deus users. The dive and beach features are obviously new to all of us but if you used the Deus 1 for anything else it will be an easy transition. Loren had mentioned that he doesn't like the screen changing between the target ID and the program name. That doesn't really bug me but I'll tell you what does. When using the goldfield program the lower left screen changes between ground level and the battery level too often. Now for the regular programs that's probably not going to be an issue. But for me the ground level bar is real good for IDing hot rocks (I'll elaborate on that later or show it in a video). On this trip I brought the Deus 1 with 5x10 coil, Deus 2 with 11" coil, Equinox 800 with the 11, 8 and 5x10 coils and the Minelab GPX 5000 with a few mono coils. I used all the VLF's on day one, not really looking for gold but just to run over the ground and compare a few buried gold nuggets and see how they handle the mineralization and hot rocks. My first impression is the Deus 2 is slightly better in mineralized dirt that the Equinox coil size to coil size on coin sized targets (I will have a video to show this later). just for reference a dime buried at approximately 6" is pretty much consumed by the ground minerals. The Deus 2 11" coil easily beats out the Deus 1 5x10 30 KHz coil on small gold nuggets, I haven't tried 75 Khz yet but I would assume it will light up the ground. I would assume that would also be the case with 11" coils on both units as the 11" coil should be more blind to the small gold nuggets. The one I tested was less than a 10th of a gram. On bigger gold nuggets the Deus 2 also beats out the Deus 1 but that could change if the Deus 1 had an 11" coil on it. But I doubt it. The nugget used was about .3 grams. Now on to the Equinox. I ran it with both the 11" and 5x10 against the Deus 2 11" coil. It's tough but my initial thought is the Equinox is better at all sizes of gold. But the Deus 2 is much tamer and easier to use. Let me tell you why. When you run the Equinox horseshoe on (which I recommend when hunting small gold) you have to constantly watch the target ID or you could block out -9 thru -7 to get rid of the ground noise you can't GB out. This could just be me but I have a much harder time telling hot rock and ground nose on the Equinox that I ever did on the Deus, even the Deus 1. In this particular area I'm constantly fighting noise on the Equinox with just about any setting I use. The Deus 2 on the other hand is much quieter and hot rocks are really easy for me to ID. They sound different and any that are questionable you simply have to look and the ground level bar and if it's high you know it's a hot rock. More to come on this but either one you use you have trade offs as far as I can tell. So at this point don't get rid of your Equinox, it runs smaller coils and might have the edge nugget hunting hard to say without me having a 9" coil for the Deus 2.
  15. I did a quick search on this, but didn't come up with anything. I apologize if this has already been brought up. For those that have received their units already, is anyone having issues updating the WS6 headphones to version 6? The remote updated just fine, but I've tried 2 different Windows computers with no luck for the headphones. It just says "update" on the headphone screen, and nothing happens on the app. I've also made sure that I'm on the WS6 tab on the updater app. Maybe there's not a version 6 for the headphones yet? Figured I'd check to see if anyone else is having issues before I reached out to XP.
  16. This is a callback to a similar thread that was initiated by Steve shortly after release of the ML Equinox. The Equinox was such a success and was garnering such positive commentary that folks felt intimidated when posting criticism. A recent thread by some folks who were new to XP detectors but who recently purchased Deus 2 detectors had some fresh perspective and pointed criticisms of the Deus 2 and documented their concerns in a separate thread. There is an overriding concern that these criticisms are being dismissed and drowned out by Deus fans. This is an attempt to extract these concerns from threads where the debate has been heated and has devolved into less than productive commentary. 1. The pop-up visual target ID indicator implementation appears flawed. It does not persist for very long before the underlying Program Mode icon re-appears. 2. The remote control speaker is weak and does not work well submerged. 3. The Coil heartbeat indicator is distracting, there is concern that it will cause premature drain of the coil battery and may make it difficult to successfully bring the coil through airport security screening when travelling with the detector. 4. There appear to be some quality control issues resulting in micro-debris imbedded in the D2 display face (one user reported this, anyone else see this issue), 5. The remote uses a proprietary multi-pin connector (as well as the wired "bone phones") limiting cross-platform compatibility. 6. There is concern regarding the robustness and design of the antenna assembly that is used for submerged coil operation. 7. There is concern about the ruggedness of the the coil shaft and stem - it is light weight and appears flimsy. 8. There are limited tone ID volume adjustments (i.e., the volumes of individual audio tone ID bins cannot be adjusted). Updates: 9. The toggling Battery Level/Ground mineralization tiles are distracting and the toggle timing seems too fast. Providing the option to adjust the toggle timing or to simply switch to individual static battery level or ground mineralization tiles is preferred. Options to reduce the screen real estate consumed by the stepped mineralization graph with a single vertical or horizontal "filled" bargraph should be considered. Furthermore, hot keys to enable the battery level to be called up on demand should be considered. 10. Pinpoint mode - the button to enter pinpoint mode is not the same as the button to exit pinpoint mode. There is a noticeable delay associated with engagement of pinpoint mode - appears to be associated with the Auto Tune function. Apparently AT can be disabled as a user option. 11. The Deus 1 manual GB adjustment and ground notch features do not exist for the Fast Multifrequency Modes on the D2. This precludes manually biasing/tweaking the ground response to boost target sensitivity at the expense of increased noise and also, without ground notch, makes it hard to cancel out hot rocks. This is exacerbated by a lack of audio notch capability in the Gold Field and Relic modes to compensate for hot rock pings. (Reported as a critical item) 12. Regarding the bone phones: dealing with all the antenna wires and cheap quality bone phones and and it's subpar cables seems a chore. 13. No adapter cable exists to enable the bone phones to be used with the Deus 2 pucks or other detector audio devices that utilize a common 1/8” or 1/4” phone jack. 14. A Deus 2 FMF variant of or compatibility with the XP HF 5x10 elliptical cable is desirable. Users willing to trade off maintaining Deus 2 dive integrity with this coil to enable land only or shallow submerged use. Welcome any comment and perspective on these issues (are these legit (reported by multiple users), big deals, showstoppers that should be addressed by XP or just personal preference) as well as follow-up posts on additional concerns or constructive critiques. Have at it, folks...
  17. The Deus II arrived this morning so I’ll give you a run down of the first testing day.. To be honest my first impression when I took the Deus II out of the box wasn’t good.. It looks like a kid’s toy.. I’m glad XP didn’t paint them red or yellow, I’d send it straight back.. Once I got over the shock of how light and toyish it feels I realised what a heavy beast the Equinox is, especially with a 13x15’’ or 15’’ coil.. The pistol grip is a winner, plus the Deus II is nicely balanced but that can’t be too hard if there’s hardly any weight to balance.. One initial thing that’s got me a bit spooked is the stand-by light on the coil.. It was already flashing when I opened the box and hasn’t turned off yet! Is this normal? I’d have thought it would turn off after a certain time to save the battery.. If this is not normal, how can I turn the bloody thing off? It keeps on blinking once every 4 seconds even when the control box (or Remote Control in XP speak) is turned off.. I’ve not tried smashing it against the wall yet, but I’m getting close.. Anyway, I worked out how to run it on program 11 Beach and headed down to (you guessed it) the beach.. I was keen to see how it compared to the Equinox so I whacked on an 11” coil for the occasion.. Whilst on the job, the first thing that struck me about the Deus II was that the display on the Remote Control is bullshit.. Far too much information for the beach (or anywhere else).. The target ID only flashes up when the detector has spotted something (it doesn't stay on the target display), the rest of the time it shows you a whole load of stuff which is not important.. I know it’s a different story for prospecting but do you really need to know that the coil is still attached? I do like the ferrous/non-ferrous indicators on the sides of the display, they seem to be pretty accurate.. I tend to listen to what the detector is telling me before checking the screen to confirm what I’m hearing.. With the Equinox the target ID is there for the world to see but with the Deus II the small numbers get lost amongst all the bullshit.. Even then, as soon as you’re not over the target anymore it jumps straight back to telling you what program you’re in (which you already know because you’ve just set it).. I’m also not too sure about the little white numbers on a black background, if XP had filled the whole screen with them it would’ve worked better.. I’m sure it’s a matter of getting used to it and blah, blah, blah but this stuff leaves a bad taste in my mouth.. I realise it’s only cosmetic and what really matters is under the hood, but I’d have thought this was pretty basic stuff to get right.. Anyway, back to the beach.. I did the usual scenario of burying different things (coins, gold rings and other small jewellery) at different depths in dry and wet sand.. My first impression is that the Deus II is NOT better than the Equinox on the beach.. it’s not worse but it certainly isn’t any better.. I could find every target no matter how small or deep with both the Equinox and the Deus II.. This was both a relief and disappointment.. Relief that my Foxy Noxy hadn’t been knocked off its perch and disappointment that the huge amount of cash I paid for the Deus II didn’t buy me a whole lot of difference.. I knew this would be likely (and in my defence I did buy it as a scuba detector) but I did live in hope.. I know it’s early days yet.. I’m still running the Deus with the speakers on the Remote Control and haven’t tried the headphones yet (they’re still in the box).. Also I’m not used to the tones and am still mucking around trying to get them right.. Are the tone settings universal like the Equinox or do you have to set them each time you turn it on? I’m trying to get out of the 3 tone setting the Deus uses in program 11 to get it to 5 tones.. Does it remember your settings? I’m still figuring stuff out by pushing buttons, guess I’ll have to read the manual.. But even if I get this all sorted, I don’t think that on my beaches the Deus II will outshine the Equinox.. Underwater is a different story.. I’ll be taking it for a dive tomorrow (I was going to take it today but old matey took so long to fill my tank, only just got it back).. So I’ll keep you posted on how my new Nox-Lite performs in the drink..
  18. Toddy detects and grids a small Mediterranean volcanic/black sand beach with his new Deus 2. He has trouble ground balancing.......maybe he does not know how to use the Magnetic Ground-Beach part of the ground balance menu???? He uses Beach and Beach Sensitive anyway. There is some falsing during wave action and at the ends of swings that aren't level....but no real issues. Seems to work just fine. Extremely long, boring, lots of broken up signals on steel core European Union coins and a stainless steel ring from the wash at the end. He does switch to the external speaker after about 5 minutes. I speak English with a North Georgia accent and I'm Scotch Irish. Todd speaks English too but holy cow.......his Scotch English accent is off the charts.
  19. Hopefully the Deus II arrives today.. These are my expectations: I’ve been using a PulseDive with a 8” coil for deeper dives but searching long stretches of seafloor is very time consuming, especially with a ‘dig it all’ detector which doesn’t punch very deep.. The 11” coil on the Deus II will be a bonus in deep water but I’m going to miss the Equinox with its larger coils in shallow water.. I’m sweeping the seafloor, not creek beds.. XP shows a 11x13’’ coil in the manual but I don’t think it’s on the market yet.. This coil will fill the gap a bit, but not by much.. I hope XP will make larger coils for the Deus II.. No need to go too wild (over 20’’) but a 15’’ coil would be a welcome addition.. A fully submersible coil similar to the Equinox’s 13x15’’ will also sway other sea hunters towards XP over Minelab.. Going by the manual and test reports by Calabash, the Deus II will stay waterproof deeper and longer than the Equinox.. I’m not saying I never expect it to leak (even with its whopping 20 metre depth rating), rather the likelihood of it leaking is far less.. This also reduces the worry about taking the detector deeper than its limit.. Right now I’ve got a depth gauge tied to the control box of the Equinox to make sure I don’t drop below 3 metres.. I’m sure it can go a bit deeper but I’ve never taken the risk.. I hope the Deus II takes away the ‘pain in the arse’ factor of forever worrying about leaks.. Having said that, I never treat the Equinox with kit gloves.. It works hard underwater and never leaked (even since I ‘broke the seal’ to replace the battery).. It’s just that I won’t have to worry about the Deus II leaking at 12 to 18 metres, the deepest parts of my search areas in bays or around old ship wrecks.. The manual says the screen can crack at 35 metres, so beyond that depth I’ll whip out the mighty PulseDive.. With the Equinox, I have to use sensitivity settings below 20 to stabilise it in seawater, otherwise it buzzes like mad and the target ID constantly jumps between 2-3-4-5 (especially with big coils).. I’ve used the 11” inch coil which is a bit more stable with the sensitivity on 18 or even 19.. But I hate lowering the sensitivity, when I get down to 15-16-17 to stabilise the Equinox underwater I start to worry about all the gold rings I’m missing, especially the small stuff.. At these lower sensitivity settings it’s also harder to get a solid hit on small targets - the target IDs become erratic or are drowned out by seawater static.. This is where the Deus II’s salt sensitivity settings (adjustable from 1 to 9) can make a difference.. I hope that by adjusting the salt sensitivity settings (only available in the diving and beach programs), the Deus II will be better than the Equinox at removing the false signals caused by seawater.. If the Deus II also runs more stable and hits hard on targets without jumping about too wildly, I’ll be a very happy diver! I also want to see if the multi-frequency ranges in program 11 - Beach work as good as promised in seawater.. From what I can make out, in this program the range of available frequencies are 4.08 to 4.76 kHz - 6.94 to 8.08 kHz - 10.39 to 15.15 kHz - 15.62 to 20.75 kHz - 22.06 to 28.57 kHz (topping out at 24 kHz) compared to the Equinox’s multi-frequency beach modes using 5, 10 and 15 kHz.. According to the manual, program 11 - Beach can also be used for diving.. If the detector is hard to stabilise or becomes less sensitive to small deep targets, I can switch to program 10 - Diving (with multi-frequency ranges up to 14 kHz).. The manual says that ‘’unlike some multi-frequency detectors that offer fixed multi-frequencies, the Deus II uses different high and low frequency combinations depending on the programs… These frequencies can then be subtracted to remove electrically-conductive soils or added together to help locate a wider range of targets’’.. I hope that the ‘Conductive Soil Subtraction’ in the diving and beach programs will give the Deus II another edge over the Equinox in seawater.. From what I can gather so far, the Deus II is not just a good all-rounder.. XP also has its multi-frequency in mind for the ocean, more so than Minelab throwing divers a bone with the Equinox.. Minelab did a great job with its PI scuba detector, the Excalibur, but I’ve got a feeling the Deus II will finally wipe out its already small share of the pie - especially with accurate target IDs and comparable coil depths.. Maybe the Equinox 1000 will be waterproof to 80 metres and feature salt settings or remove false seawater signals, but until it’s released I’m more than willing to jump ship to XP for a detector that’ll get the job done around the island.. And if it also turns out to be a capable nugget hunter, I’ll be doing even more back-flips with joy!
  20. This morning I sold my GPX 5000 to a prospector who lives 3 hours away.. he was willing to make the 6 hour return trip for the price I asked for it.. I wasn't using it enough to justify its existence.. I was after a scuba detector and was looking at a secondhand Sea Hunter but when I saw the Deus 2 is now available in Australia (Detect-Ed) I ordered one straight away.. They said they would send it express post and I'll have it in my hand by the end of the week.. So today has been a bit sad for saying goodbye to the GPX but also looking forward to being able to dive with a (hopefully) reliable detector.. 😁 The Deus 2 will be another world altogether but that's always good..
  21. A couple of Deus 2/Multi Kruzer comparison videos in English on Swiss hillside pasture. Very fair comparisons by an experienced Multi Kruzer user. Both videos are fairly long but are live relic/coin digs with tones and target ID numbers.
  22. Gary Blackwell explains the Deus 2 Notch feature. Good news, the notch feature is on the WS 6 module too.... Bad new for gold prospectors and micro gold jewelry hunters, Sensitive, Sensitive FT and Fast have halo effect/coke notches by default at least on the version of software that Gary is using. Park also has the big 23-36 coke and tiny aluminum notch. So if gold prospecting/micro jewelry hunting with some of the 40 kHz discrimination programs, better remove that notch first. Dumbing down the Deus 2 for the masses like this is very similar to how Minelab dumbed down the Equinox with coke discrimination in Park 1, Field 1, Field 2 and making every program including the Gold modes have iron discriminated by default.
