geof_junk
Some gold in Quartz. 16+ Oz in big one 4+ in middle one, gold yielded. Noted quartz is over 7 times larger. That should show the different Quartz. 1
GB_Amateur
Regarding your last photo, Geof, if it weren't for the sparse scraggly vegetation I would have figured this was a photo from the Mars Rover. (And Mars might have more water, too.) 2

That should show the different Quartz. Those quartz pieces have some nice discoloration from mineralization, especially where the gold specks are. They are not like the pure white bull quartz I’ve seen in some areas around the prospects and shafts I’ve visited.
Victorius
Today I visited the neighboring mountain (closer to the car) with a metal detector. My goal was to find a place for a thorough search. Visually examined the narrow creek, there were cobblestones with quartz veins, but did not find the place where they lived. How promising is quartz? Victorius
I upgraded my metal detector from AT Gold to Nokta Legend, while I'm waiting for warm weather.

Steve Herschbach
Quartz by itself is one of the most common rocks on the planet and means nothing at all by itself. All it means is you found quartz. I have never seen so much quartz in my life as I saw wandering around Australia, but 99.9% of it is worthless.
Dan Smith
The gold in the river may have travelled many kilometers from its source. Like others have said quartz is very common and rarely contains gold. Are there any known gold mines in the area? Focus your efforts where the old timers proved it.

But by the appearance of the quartz, you, as an experienced seeker, will be able to distinguish gold-bearing quartz.
