JCR
Here we are at the Autumnal Equinox and it is still hot & dry in many places limiting the opportunities to detect successfully. On my East Texas sites the ground hard & dry to 10-12". We are in the upper 90's F. When we do get some real rain & cool temps I will be trying to make up some time in the field. How are your conditions?
jim tn
Here in s w Tn about the same conditions as yours, JCR. We hit 100 here today, up from 99 yesterday. Been battling dry conditions and heat since last June. And currently little chance for rain over the next two weeks. HH Jim Tn
F350Platinum
Weather is cooling down here in VA, we've had a bit of drought but all my fields have crops on them, so I've been going to beaches and hunting campgrounds that we visit. The jellyfish are finally gone from one of my beaches, I went to it yesterday and water hunted but got nothing but fishing rigs and a couple of bottle caps. Got one 94 which turned out to be another memorial coin like the one I found a while back. It was a nice day, 83 and strong breeze from the direction I took the picture. The water was clear down to about 5 feet. I tossed the coin back.
dogodog
Up until a week or two ago it was bone dry here in PA. Temps hovered in the high 90's to over a 100 most days. My first day hunting since July 4th was September 5. I stopped detecting most of the summer for fear I would lose permissions over dead spots in the turf. In June I dug a hole for my new flag pole and it was powder dry at 36 inches, I have never ever saw powder at that depth. That September 5th hunt only lasted 2 hours due to the heat but yielded a pleasant surprise an undated standing liberty quarter.

GB_Amateur
Here in Southern Indiana it hasn't been nearly as hot as many of you have been dealing with, but this is the driest summer I've expereinced since getting back into detecting in late 2015. I've hardly been out in the last 2 1/2 months. The few times I've gotten out I've taken jugs of water to wet the plugs after recovery, but I don't know how well that works when the ground is already so dry and no rain comes along within a few days to help out. The weather finally broke today and the predictions are ~70F (~21 C) highs and ~50 F (10 C) lows for the next 10 days -- perfect Autumn temps + low humidity. But no rain in the forecast... ?
dogodog
Just had 3/4'' rain on Thursday and today the Temp didn't get above 65. It sure is a welcome feeling that fall is almost here. Hope the temps start to cool down for you JCR.
