I’ve flown into Shanghai and other cities in China from the US a dozen times and never once had anyone have any concern on anything I brought in through customs. If they were trying to avoid taxes on the gold or something similar they could have done a number of things… belt buckles… a big ol rodeo belt buckle, long as no one tried to pick it up, lol.
