The Fisher Gold Bug 2 metal detector was introduced in 1995 and is still in production. It is a 71 kHz induction balance metal detector aimed primarily at gold prospecting.

"The Gold Bug 2 is the best detector on the market for finding the tiniest gold nuggets. It offers extraordinary sensitivity; at 71 kHz it features the highest operating frequency on the market. The Gold Bug 2 also features iron discrimination, is dust and moisture resistant, has audio-boost and can operate in any type of soil with the choice of three mineralization modes. In the Iron Disc Mode the detector can identify hot rocks and small iron trash items like nails. An Audio Boost Mode increases the depth capability and automatically increases the volume of any faint signal such as a small or deep nugget." Source: Fisher 2016 catalog

My first metal detector, light easy to use finds small gold. I have not used it much since getting the 5000 and 7000 but will always have it around. Very good beginner detector and finds small gold.

This was my first gold nugget detector, and I don't recall anything that I didn't like about it. Although there  is a learning curve to operating it, once I undersood what it was telling me no piece of gold was safe, not even the smallest crumb.

I bought one for my wife. She found some nice pieces of gold with it. She will occasionally dig some hot rocks with it which she does not like then she goes for the PI  give it 4 stars because it's a very sensitive machine which I like but it takes a little getting used to to learn how to operate.

This Gold Bug 2 is very effective on grain size gold to 3" depth, working the manual ground balance in alkali areas can be tedious, but overall I highly recommend this detector for tiny gold cleanup on patches.
