  1. I would like to see an adjustable angle post grip. A few degrees forward to back for detecting above or below your foot level and about 30 degrees right or left for detecting the sides of a gully. I used a wing nut to tighten the handle on the GPXs and was able to detect side hill much more efficiently.
  2. If it isn't the Sage Grouse it WILL be something else. Here we have Spotted Owls, Willow Fly Catchers, Yellow Legged Frogs, Pine Martens and at least a dozen other critters that are being "studied". In addition there are countless "unique" plants (not rare 0r endangered) that when found on my claims cause extensive delays and restrictions on my right to explore for and removal of minerals from those claims. You cannot fight a corrupt system by working within the rules written by those in charge of that corrupt system. On the bright side, I did work with some USFS personnel that seem to be starting to realize how twisted some of theses regulations have become.
  3. My smartphone takes two 6V dry cell batteries and has a rotary dial and it's a real pain to stretch out the antenna and wind it back up every time I use it. You folks are going to force me to step into the digital age. sorta wish I had a ten year old grand kid.
  4. In the meantime the Makro Gold Racer is here so i will upload a video---dont make fun SS, or CP-- I am assuming I have free a rein.
  5. Never been there but I hope it becomes necessary for me to ask the same question someday. 1. Have a friend that had bent trailer axle issues a couple of times. He says the potholes will run out in front of you. 2. Take lots of notes for those of us who's only travel is through other peoples stories. 3. Take lots of pictures to share with us. 4. Take Klunker
  6. A solution looking for a problem. Please note that all of the videos were within an extension cords length of a receptacle.
  7. I certainly wasn't expecting any miracles with the upgrade and after reading all the above posts I have a much better understanding about the purpose of the upgrades. We're about to get stormed out again so more experimenting will have to wait.
  8. I've tried it and believe it cost too much performance to be useful to me. But I'm with you Fred I would like to hear other opinions and the circumstances where it was used.
  9. The upgrade most certainly hasn't harmed anything and this is a very limiting time of year to test any thing up here (except physical endurance). So what do your Minelab spies tell you about forth coming upgrades? You do have spies don't you?
  10. Thanks Steve. I would sure like to know just what exactly gets changed with the update. Tx, Rx, Audio filtering or what? I did notice that touching the upper shaft with my hand would actually produce a very slight rise in the threshold. I had never noticed it before the update. ???
  11. Sourdough Scott drove 40 miles on icy roads to come help me install the upgrades into the Z. My old computer had a bit of a rough time with it as little signs popped up saying YA CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE! and I AINT A GONNA DO IT! Scott had just about given up when we noticed the screen on the detector showed that the upgrade was loading. So now I'm all up to date. I pains me to admit that I am quit impressed with the technology. I sure hope Minelab put all the screws back in when they were done. We took the detector out the next day and I can honestly say - I couldn't tell any difference. But one short day is not a fair or complete test. The one change I did notice was in the threshold tone. Now instead of a soothing mosquito hum I get a continuous loop of the chorus from Waltzing Matilda and a disgusting burp replaces the low-high signals and a hiccup replaces the high-low signals. That SS is a funny guy. Knowing the origin of the song, I can' help but Norvic might have had a hand in the bad joke. But I'll say THANK YOU SCOTT anyway.
  12. The camera fits nicely in the scoop of the detector truck that SS gave me for Christmas. I do have trouble getting photos out of my vacuum tubed, wooden cased computer. SS tried and couldn't make it work either. El Dorado had it working for me a couple of years ago but I have either forgotten what he showed me or something has changed. I miss not being able to post pictures. If I could, when you folks say I'm full of B.S. I could post photos to prove it.
  13. Me thinks technology is way out of line here. I would like to post more pictures but it takes months to get my film processed.
  14. No one detector will do it all well. I believe you'll wind up with a dedicated gold machine and a dedicated coin- relic machine. A forum member here had a well equipped ML GP Extreme listed on the forum classifieds. they are an excellent gold detector, some folks claim they are still one of the best, and his price sounds very good if your budget is tight.
  15. The lines I was attempting to work near were transmission lines probably 70,000 volts or so. Haven't tried detecting around distribution lines with much lower voltages. next time that I am back in that area I will fiddle around with settings a bit more.
  16. But I always steal good and valuable advice from this forum. My ploy didn't work with the IRS either.
  17. Thanks for joining in teeau but a wee bit more information might be helpful in finding good prospecting partners. Things like what type of prospecting are you interested in, what is your idea of remote, approximate age, approximate age mentally, do you bring extra beer and do you have a sense of humor.
  18. mn90403; You will be receiving a 15% share in my lost treasure endeavors. At this time I have invested $8,626.85 with no monetary returns. Please forward $129.40 to The Klunker Lost Treasure Locating Co. to retain your share in good standing. Thank you
  19. The GPZ GPS will be my next gizmo challenge so prepare yourself for some REALLY dumb questions. I think it might be useful for finding that fantastic rich quarts ledge that Goldbrick and I are zeroing in on.
  20. You may be right NVC. but after a full season with it, it is still a love-hate relationship. As noted above, sometimes in the same day. Fred; I know what you mean. I always describe this place as "a beautiful place to starve to death" but my roots go back so far and deep that I don't think I would transplant well.
  21. I have to agree here with CR. I am among the laziest prospectors out there but skipping over something because you don't want to dig a deep hole is a poor practice. However after a couple of dozen pieces of deep trash I usually take a break and try to find some exposed bed rock. Digging deep "trash" has always paid off in the long run.
  22. Yesterday I was sitting in my office doing year end paper work and within sight is the 7000 hanging on the store room wall. about noon, a little devil voice on my shoulder says "let's go detecting". Then a little angel voice on my other shoulder says "You promised this year you wouldn't shirk your responsibilities to go detecting." Then the little devil voice says "There are storms predicted for the whole week . We could be snowed in for the rest of the winter!" Then the little angel voice says "He's right. The hell with being responsible." I loaded up the Jeep and drove to the only place that I thought the snow might be melted off enough to do a bit of nugget hunting. This particular spot has 3 major problems. It's been hammered for years, it is covered with hot rocks and it has a high voltage electric transmission line right through the middle of it. I have always been able to work this area with other detectors by making adjustments and changing coils. Not so with the Z. It was absolutely helpless. The only way to quiet it down was to turn it off so I gave up. On my way back to the Jeep I decided "I'm going to get rid of this thing." Further more, I thought I could make a statement by selling it for 40% off of the original price of $10,000. That makes it $6,000. Then I remembered one very small area of old workings that was about 1000' from the power lines. There the 7000 was it's usual well behaved self and I immediately found a nice small chunky nugget. "O.K." I thought. "I'll raise my price by 10%. That made it $7,000. I was only able to detect for about an hour before it was getting dark and too danged cold but by that time my Z was up to $12,000.
