  1. Hey SS. Just thought I'd let you know that, from past experience, I realize how much time, effort, and personal expense is involved in an event like this and you'll still get some whining about some thing you did or didn't do. It's a thankless job so I see no need to say THANK YOU.
  2. AARRRRGGGG!!! I've been hacked! Jasong, you dirty rat! You snuck into my computer and stole the rough draft of my comments on the 7000! And don't think that I don't recognize the dastardly act of plagiarism just because you have deleted the cuss words and corrected the spelling and punctuation.
  3. GPZ. The detector I hate to love. I will not argue that it is generally the best gold detector made. But it could have been so much better. I'm swamped at work for the next couple of weeks but when I get the time I will deliver an "R" rated diatribe and some deserved praise for the Z. I have also learned some tricks that help faster nugget recovery and pin pointing as that seems to be an issue with the Z that pops up quite often
  4. Ha! I hope Pauls' plane doesn't fly over MY electro magnet experiment! Maybe some kind of thin plastic cover that could be easily removed and replaced would solve the magnet cleaning problem.
  5. Mr. Auminsweeper; A full report is due Monday. Please study all of .Mr. Herschbachs reviews so that yours is in the proper format and well written. Photos will receive extra credit.
  6. AUswpr. Cross the Ford off your list Unless your a real lucky gambler. Goldbrick- Please forgive me for getting off topic, just trying to save a fellow forum member some grief so that he has more time and money to spend on his hobbies.
  7. Hey Fred! I was wishing I DIDN'T have a backhoe on my last trip. McQ worked me to death! Road dog There is something that works better than a Hip Stick. Simply have C.Porter detect for you. Thanks Steve. Your post gets me to thinking about not "flappin' in the breeze" like I'm prone to do.
  8. I used to play a 12 string guitar in church. But, alas, I was a lousy guitarist - and a worse Christian.
  9. I'll stand guard over your virgin patch while your gone. No need to thank me, I'm just glad to help out. I hope you and your have a great time!
  10. Forget all of the above. Get the danged thing quiet regardless of what it takes, short of detecting with it turned off. Take the time to fiddle with it over each target before you dig it.
  11. Gee whiz! You guys are being defensive without seeing the FACTS. Just look at the picture. These folks are obviously drug users- you can tell by looking at them. And look at the big bags full of ancient coins laying around waiting to be traded for drugs. And do you see anyone walking their do? No, of course not. Those derelicts scared them away. What's worse is these guys are virtual angels compared to those despicable nugget hunters. Will somebody PLEASE impose some more regulations with appropriate fees and taxes.
  12. Six terabytes? This is real simple. The previous owners obviously spent more time and money on collecting data than they did mining. So here is my contests entry. HEY INTEGRA!!!! Get rid of the damned computers and buy a good used core drill. C. Ralph should be able to pick up a quick million.
  13. Things is gittin' interestinger and interstinger. So NVC. Do I invest all my money in gold or just half of it and keep the other $5 in cash?
  14. Thanks Ralph and Steve. Great photos and post. I have vast experience in under ground mines- as a kid. I would make a torch with a stick, some tar paper and a piece of rusty wire and go exploring. An old miner (my great uncle) heard about it and and told me to watch out for old caps lying around and winzes." OK, I will" I told him. I hoped one of the caps would fit my scrawny little head and thought a winze might make a good pet if I caught one. I would love to go back into some of those old mines and detect but they have long since caved in.
  15. There LKY. You see how easy it is. nothin' too it.
  16. Thanks CNDR. Not a rant at all. Get me going on the flaws with the 7000 THEN YOU"LL SEE A RANT!
  17. Thanks NORVIC for taking care of a pretty good guy. My guess is that the value of those treasures will come back X 10.
  18. Nice foot hill gold bearing hill top? wine ? never been detected? An outing with nice people? Private property with permission? undisturbed artifacts? GPX 7000 in hand? NICE MOTHER IN LAW!!?? I'm a non repentant sinner and have to go to the other place.
  19. Bought a jar of glue once that was guaranteed to "glue anything to anything under any circumstance" - I couldn't get the lid off.
  20. I'll have to try the Gorilla Glue thing. I build my own picks but I put the handle hole clear through the head and us wedges to hold the handle. many times I have desperately searched for a square nail to tighten up the head and couldn't find one when I normally find them by the hundreds. Funny how that works.
  21. I used the ferrite a few times and can honestly say I had no improvement with the Z ground balance. Generally where I am detecting the ground type can change significantly many times in very short distances. This is when the old antique GPX5000 had an advantage as far as ease of keeping proper ground balance. My Minelab dealer (Doc) sent the ferrite with out my requesting it. Didn't know what it was so I tried to eat it.
  22. Where does SS. find this stuff??? NVC- You have no idea how correct about me being ambidextrous you really are. Several years ago I was viciously attacked by a pack of doctors. they disassembled my right arm and scrounged spare parts that I had from various other places and put it back together. they did a pretty fair job of it but they were about to be late for a golf game and they forgot to replace most of my bicep muscles. Now I lift everything left handed. This perfectly prepared me to swing a 7000 all day without bungees and sticks. I can truly say I was made for a GPX 7000.
  23. Just a tad expensive for a pin pointer. Perhaps finding larger nuggets would be a better answer. I have never carried a pin pointer but with the 7000 it may save a lot of time. I'm going to start doing some research and asking opinions on them.
  24. I completely agree with audio smoothing set in off or or low EXCEPT when working over visible bedrock or where there is no history of larger nuggets or where you simply are not going to be able to keep a good ground balance and smooth threshold. If I had any idea at all of how to make and post a video I could better explain my reasoning. Keep in mind that this area has some very jumbled up geology.
