  1. Awsome find! Any half dime is a great find but that one has some serious age and value on it. I'll share a quick story on a good find from this weekend. My friend Joe and I were hunting an early 1900s park and he found an 1836 Capped Bust Dime! We are talking Eastern Washinton State here. We are lucky to find one Seated coin a year in our area and Bust Dimes aren't even on our radar. It was an exciting find for sure. Bryan
  2. For those of you who don't mind metal eyelets, the Keen Briggs hikers are my favorite waterproof hiker I have ever owned. They are much lighter then they look and are very flexible.. I had no break in period. The best way I can describe these is that I am completely unaware that I am wearing them until I get home and take them off. This was from day one of wearing them. I remember coming home the first time I wore them and was kind of bummed that I didn't notice my new boots all day. Then I thought to myself, this is good. They are made with thin leather and have been 100% waterproof so far. Again these are not nearly as heavy as they appear. http://www.cabelas.com/product/KEEN-MENS-BRIGGS-MID/2302824.uts?productVariantId=4660192&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=04489065&rid=20&gclid=CO_Dp5fihNMCFZFffgodGO0L5A&gclsrc=aw.ds
  3. I have a Clean Sweep mounted on a Tesoro Golden uMax. I got it last fall and have only had it out one time and it was a real eye opener! I'm more of an old coin hunter but I do plan on doing some sport field hunting this summer for fresh drop Jewlery with it. The amount of ground you can cover with one was somewhat shocking to me. It worked very well and was easy to pinpoint with using the wiggle back method. Bryan
  4. What's the deal? Are they shipping them now? Last I heard they haven't even released anyone from even talking about it. Bryan
  5. I know I'm straying off topic from this thread but Rob I noticed when testing my Mojave that it was surprisingly sensitive to small gold. Here are some Air test results while in high ground mode. Bic Pen-3/4" 1/2 Grain (not gram) nugget 1" 1.3 gram nugget 5" . One tenth oz gold coin 8 1/2".. This is with the stock coil. I bought a Nel Snake coil for it in hopes of using it on my custom shorty shaft but it fell on its face with that coil and lost all its sensitivity to small gold. If the Mojave can handle bad soil with its stock coil it might be a good little silent search nugget hunter for the right person or location. It's so light, simple and cheap it's easy to make the case to own one. Bryan
  6. I haven't tried the PCGS App but have had good luck with CoinBook Pro on my iPhone. I use it when I'm out detecting.. The coin prices are a little high but it still gives you an idea if you have a key date coin. It's quick and easy with no glitches so far. Bryan
  7. The more I read about the Impact, the more impressed I am with its number of unique modes and settings. It doesn't seem to be just another rehashed VLF. I'm a little torn because I like to keep things simple if I can, but some of the features and the flexibility of the detector are real appealing. I always feel a little uncomfortable owning a lot of detectors. I don't like to having them and all their coils sitting around to use just for specific locations. The Impact might replace a few of my detectors plus add more technology to the lineup. I'm close to pulling the trigger. Bryan
  8. Very nice! I always enjoy your gold photos and videos. Doesn't look like you will be getting Gold Racer back anytime soon though. Bryan
  9. I know what your saying about VLF depth Steve and ID accuracy at depth. My soil sounds a lot like yours. Some detectors are a few inches deeper in All Metal mode as you know and I was just hoping they discovered a way to impart enough iron discrimination into the All metal to squeeze out another 1 or 2 inches. I have one site in particular that I don't need accurate ID just a rough iron ID. I tend to get a little too optimistic sometimes I guess.. Bryan
  10. Thanks Steve. I had a feeling that might be the case that the All Metal mode is no deeper than the disc. modes. The Gold Racer seems to be like that. Bryan
  11. The Impact looks to have some great capabilities but really I am only interested in that one All Metal Mode that Keith showcased in his video. If I understand it correctly and it works at depth it would be the only VLF that I know of that has this capability and I would buy it for that reason alone. I crave depth more than separation... I want to pull dimes past 10 inches which is my current limit in my ground with my FBS detectors. Bryan
  12. Thanks Steve. It will be interesting to see how it works at depth. I have a site this would come in handy if it truly works. Old coins start at 7" and go deeper from there. I am tapped out at 10" with my detectors. I have had some success hunting in All metal with other detectors but it's frustrating as you know. If you can discriminate out most iron I could dig everything else past 7" since there is no or very little aluminum past the first 7". I could see where this could be good for larger nugget hunting too if it actually works at depth. Bryan
  13. Steve Keith showed the mixed mode you are talking about but there was another All metal mode that was different. Non ferrous targets give a nice zip zip like normal but a nail had kind of a duel tone type zip. Kind of reminds me of how a TDI works. Bryan
  14. What caught my eye in this Video of Keith's is the special All Metal mode that has somewhat of an audible discrimination ability.. I was not that excited about this detector until I saw this. Could be a very powerful tool the no other detector has that I know of. I think he called it the General D mode iron actually low tones in All Metal Mode. I would like to hear your opinion of it Steve. Bryan
  15. Makro/Nokta seem to be speeding up the proscess and their open communication with their customer base might kick the other manufactures in the but and get them moving if they start digging in to thier sales. Bryan
  16. I used to drive Lowboy for a construction company and have hauled some big loads, but those are impressive! Makes me a little envious. Not counting the hairy situations you can find yourself in, it's a pretty neat feeling owning the road with pilot cars front and back. Bryan
  17. Minelab Go-Find is pretty close to a toy but I don't think the Monster will be. Like you I'm not ordering one until I at least read some reviews and see some real video of it in action. Hopefully that time is soon! Bryan
  18. I wasn't worried about it finding bigger gold. My thinking on the chart was that if it only out performs current gold detectors on the market in 0.1 to 0.9 gram range, would it be worth buying if you already own for example a Gold Racer like myself. There is definitely other features about the detector that make it attractive besides it performance though. Bryan
  19. Hope that time comes soon. The chart they show is a little vague in ways. It apears to beat other current gold detectors in "sensitivity" to gold but that looks to be in a very narrow range of nugget size. Bryan
  20. The 15"X13" coil for the high frequency Gold Racer is fantastic! I haven't tried it for gold hunting but I have pulled 9" coins park hunting in bad ground with it. Bryan
  21. I'm trying to figure out if the All Metal mode is a silent search or threshold based. If Thrshold based it must be all automatic. Bryan
  22. Awesome post Steve! I bought a used V3i last fall and after one evening on the couch clicking through the menus trying to set it up, I lost interest real fast. Being able to program it from a PC like the CTX would have changed my whole attitude. My friend runs a V3i and does very well with it when it's dialed in. When it's not dialed in to our location I can see his frustration and lack of confidence with it. He needs to check the deep signals I find with my CTX to see if it's running properly. I have seen him go on tare with it a few times when he's got it set up right. I wanted to like it but didn't have the patience for it. I can turn on my CTX in pretty much any program and go find coins without fear of screwing it up. You mostly are just trying to squeeze the last inch or two out of it by changing up the settings. Bryan
