  1. Much more information provided in this video than other attempts. A little too much slideshow for my taste, however any new information on the Equinox is welcome. I particularly liked the backpack storage scene. I think the equinox is going to be a perfect detector for my style of hunting.
  2. I have been thinking the same thing. After the Equinox specs are available, I'm going to see if making a hat like this is a viable option. A previous attempt at something similar was unsuccessful.
  3. All the Minelab detectors I've used in the past had durable housings and controls. I expect the Equinox will be the same. Purchasing an after market cover is always a good idea to protect your investment.
  4. That's great 2 cables are included! I will still order an extra one since it's a propitiatory cable. Having a spare is cheap insurance.
  5. The most important accessory to me is the charging cable, part No. 3011-0368 . I plan on picking up a couple extras as soon as they are made available. One for the glove box, and another for the carrying case. Being stuck with a low/dead battery, and no way to charge it would be awful. I also have a 7 month old Labrador that loves chewing on anything. I don't want to take any chances! I imagine Minelab will sell more charging cables then any other accessory by far. People will be opening up their wallets to buy these cables. And when they do, they will probably buy other accessories as well. I know I will. Hopefully the charging cables, waterproof headphones, and 6" coil are available at release, or soon after.
  6. ‎US 20070296415 A1, filed Aug 26, 2005 - ‎Published Dec 27, 2007. Doesn't seem recent enough to be Equinox related. FBS related? FIG. 1 is a functional block diagram of a preferred embodiment of a fully digital metal detector. The digital signal processing block 1 contains a digital signal generator, which produces pairs of sinusoidal reference signals, which may be in quadrature, but may vary in phase by some other fixed amount, with frequencies ranging from under 1 kHz to over 100 kHz
  7. Well, this is all I need! ...another hobby! I just happened upon this topic, and it has tweaked my mind! I come across these black sand beach deposits all the time, and now I know whats hidden within. It looks like a beach mining setup is on the to-do list now. Thanks for creating this very interesting and informative topic. The photos and videos are very helpful. I will be back for more.
  8. I looked at both and "Iron Bias" is new, as well as the icon under the advanced (800) column.
  9. Minelab has not released that information yet to my knowledge. But, I find this paragraph very interesting... From Treasure Talk 2: " “How many simultaneous frequencies?” you may ask, wondering if this is a critical parameter. Minelab has been carrying out detailed investigations into this in recent years. Just as you can colour in a map with many colours, the minimum number to differentiate between adjacent countries is only 4 – a tough problem for mathematicians to prove, over many years. Similar to the map problem, it’s perhaps not the maximum number of frequencies needed to achieve an optimum result, but the minimum number that is more interesting. When it comes to frequencies in a detector, to cover all target types, how the frequencies are combined AND processed is now more important, with the latest detectors, than how many frequencies, for achieving even better results."
  10. Time efficiency is key to my style of hunting. The reason for ordering an Equinox, to me, is Multi-IQ. I'm counting on Multi-IQ to pick valuable targets from iron/trash littered sites. Spending less time chasing false signals, and recovering more good stuff in all locations is what sold me. If I'm going to dig-it-all, I'm going to use a PI. Otherwise, give me Multi-IQ.
  11. I'm thinking lower weighted is a combination of something like, 15kHz and 5kHz, and very low weighted as, 10kHz and 5kHz. From what Minelab is saying, the single frequencies don't have a significant advantage over Multi-IQ. You may get more depth, but lose accuracy using only 1 frequency.
  12. The whole video is inconclusive, other than the detector was on, and goes beep in Hawaii!
  13. I baby my equipment. Hard cases if I'm traveling in the truck, and padded backpacks for motorcycles. I usually use a protective cover like those offered by Thesaurus Detecting . The Equinox will be no different. Recurve bow cases work well with many different metal detector brands. I never store anything valuable inside a vehicle.
  14. Thanks, but the content can only be viewed if you join the U.K. Beach Detecting Group. Do you have another source?
  15. A more compact version that could fit nicely in luggage or a backpack. Collapsible carbon fiber stock similar to but stronger than GoFinds design. Replaceable search coils. This is what it could look like...
  16. I would love a GoFind/Equinox hybrid. Imagine a collapsible carbon fiber stock, with the Equinox control head and search coil. I'm ready to pre-order Minelab!
  17. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I enjoyed it. When I'm hunting; beer cans, and larger junk targets are easy to determine by lifting the coil while swinging over the target. If the signal is still there and you are a foot above the ground. It's probably a can. Ascertaining the size of the target by the duration of the signal is also helpful in determining the possible target.
  18. ...I do, I was mostly kidding. When I hunt the ocean beaches here, my main focus is on recovering items lost from the 1964 Good Friday tsunami that wiped out most of the town and harbor. I use aerial photos from the 1940's, and photos of the aftermath, to try and figure out where the good stuff is deposited.
  19. Nuke em, It sounds like you need a M&P 9, or at least a can of police-strength pepper spray, for the yobs on the beaches you hunt. Here in Northern California the only harassment I get is from the surfers. They always yell, "what are you looking for? We don't have any money to lose!" I think they're right, I've never found enough on the beaches around here to cover the cost of a Go-Find 20 .
  20. The MX7 is a repackaged MX Sport. I owned an MXS earlier this year and tested in all my hunting locations. More like: MX7 and F75!
