Indeed Norvic, I have learned over the years that trying to glean information about a target from the tones of the detector is iffy at best, and if relied upon can cost you gold.

Jasong, The 29 grammer I posted about here: http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/1572-nice-lump/was initially a warbly response in High Yield\Normal; the warble solidified into a solid high-low response after I took about 8 or 10 inches of soil out of the hole. Passing the coil over the nugget in General\Difficult gives a reverse, low-high response.

Crumbing the old nugget patches with the mighty Zed has been a blast here in the Quartzsite regional placer area of Arizona this winter. Small, deep nuggets that the older detector technologies were unable to find abound in the long forgotten raked, detected and drywashed patches of yesteryear. And there are yet reasonable lumps to be discovered lurking in the depths, albeit far less common than the dinks. Case in point, Quartzsite nugget number 124: what initially sounded like another deep boot tack with its typical warbly response, turned out to be a sweet 29 gram lump at 18 inches. It is a porous, prickly beauty, which I assume is the reason why it was missed by the pulse induction detectors. Totally lovin' the new ZVT!

A medium sized mono coil has been wanted by every ATX owner I know; the falsing issue has also made detecting with the machine a real chore. Well done Garrett for acting on customer feedback. Now if they would just put the whole thing in a light weight, ATX LO (Land Only) version...

I have found that running in General/Difficult tames magnetite ironstone extremely well and retains much more depth and sensitivity than hunting in Severe.

Since the GPZ is basically a VLF, I don't see why it wouldn't be capable of full target conductivity identification just like other modern VLF machines, unless the coil configuration or the polarity switching of its EM field makes it impossible.

Congrats on the gold, Fred. As you know it takes determination, persistence and a lot of patience to squeeze the last few small nuggets out of a thrashed patch. Taking the time to compare the various settings of successful operators and finding which one works best for you certainly paid off; very smart on your part, and job well done.

So the quest didn't last long today; a mere ten seconds after switch-on, the Zed signaled me to dig. Eight inches later and out popped the 100th nugget.

Now that's what I call real nugget hunting, from research and overcoming obstacles to coils on the ground and hard won gold in the hand...it doesn't get any better than that...way to go guys!
