  1. Thanks Doc! And thanks for the photos of the dime bank, I’ve never heard of those.
  2. Thanks F350! The glass object has a copper or brass back with two small rectangular holes near the edge across from each other.
  3. Thanks Lodge Scent! I don’t know about a pipe stem, it seems too large to me and has letters APC and something else stamped on it.
  4. Yesterday was my first chance to get out and test the new V2.0 update. I had every intention of just popping over to my local test park to see how the update performs, but I had some errands to run and ended up on the south end of the city. When I got done with the errands, I only had an hour or two left to do my update tests so I decided to go to a nearby park that had given up a Denver Tramway Company uniform button (circa 1888-1893) back in April. I hadn't been back there since. I had been doing some research on this park area and knew there was a neighborhood there from the 1930s, to about 1960, but after finding the older button there in April, I had a hunch there was much older stuff to be found. There were some large elongated mounds at the back of the park next to the large creek that runs there and I thought those might have been made by the bulldozers when they demolished the old neighborhood. That large creek had created a devastating flood in the 1920s that wiped away a Victorian era park there made by the city founders in the 1890s. The park was pretty busy so I decided to hunt the back of the mounds by the creek for a little while just to test a few programs and then head back home since I only had my 11" coil with me and I was just going to hunt coins to test V2.0. I wasn't finding much but a few coke cans and the usual park surface trash but I started hitting a lot of big iron signals. I was thinking of packing it up when I heard a few interesting solid high tones mixed in with the iron. I was running my Fast program in 24 kHz with Reactivity at 3 to deal with the iron and felt confident that it was running the same as with V1.1 when I hit a dime signal. It turned out to be a 1981-D dime. I thought, okay everything sounds normal, then I hit an unusally big iron tone and dug out a large hand forged chain. Now that's old, I thought to myself and then I hit a solid 94. Well that has to a quarter or a large bottle cap for sure, and most likely a large bottle cap. I dug through the iron and moist ground about 4 inches and there was a mud covered quarter. It looked a bit odd, but with no time to clean it off I popped it in my pouch. I kept hunting for another hour or so finding a few interesting and not so interesting things. I hit an almost too loud 84 and new it would be really large bottle cap or can bottom and pulled out and almost perfect ball of hardened mud. I could see some of a metal rim sticking through the mud ball and thinking it was a can bottom threw it in the junk pouch and headed home. I was feeling good that all of the targets were sounding and IDing pretty much the same as before the update and the few other programs I tested performed the same as well. Then I set out cleaning out the junk pouch first to make sure there weren't any keepers in there. That's when the mudball split open and I could see unmistakable green hue of something copper. As I gently cleaned the large disk I started to make out what looked like an Egyptian Pharoh's head on each side of the disc. Now that can't be real, I thought. I think it might be some kind of souvenir piece from Egypt or possibly from museum exhibit held at some time maybe. I looked at some of the keeper pouch finds and I have no idea what the large copper disk with the glass domed front is. There is also a mundane rectangular aluminum or tin thing that is stamped "Little OEM Bank, New York, Pat. Apl 14, 1891". Then I started cleaning the odd looking States quarter that looked like it was caked with a mix of soil, mud, and tar. I thought it had an Indian sitting on a horse on one side when I flipped it over and could see a familiar looking eagle, but not a modern eagle. After I got through the soil and mud, I could see the old eagle better and on the other side was... OMG, a Seated Liberty!!! I still can't believe it! That's both my first silver quarter in the wild and my first Seated Liberty coin! I cleaned the tar enough to make out the date and then stopped. It's 1857 with no mint mark that I can see. So what started out as a simple test run ended up netting 2 bucket listers in one!
  5. Those are some beauties inded, congrats and well done! There are some general carat size charts for diamonds, but the only way to get the true carat is by removing the diamond from the setting and weighing it on a diamond scale.
  6. I must admit, it does look pretty good. I'm anxious to see the finished product in the US version. I have an app, but I seldom use it anymore because of it's bugs and awkardness to set up a locations. This one looks pretty simple to operate and everything can be done on the fly. I can see this being useful on relics and prospecting sites, large fields, and even beaches to see where I may have missed during a hunt. 😎
  7. Just tested my WS6 Master setup with V2.0 and can confirm that the Pinpoint mode does not work in Subtractive Programs: 1-General, 9-Relic, 10-Diving, 11-Beach, & 12-Beach Sens. The button push shows the Pinpoint screen, but there is no visual indicator change or sound when a target is moved near the coil. Pairing of all headphones, coils, and MI-6 works in all programs and the MI-6 works in all programs. I'm not near any salt water beaches so I cannot properly test Magnetic Accept/Reject, although it did make a backround noise difference on the Remote in the Beach, Beach Sens, and Dive programs , but does not appear to make any difference in those programs on the WS6 in V2.0. I never used those programs with the WS6 in V1.1, so I don't know if the reported issues were pre-existing, except what F350 reported.
  8. Loved the video, @Rattlehead, great fun! Loved the Starship Deus 2 and I about shat myself at the Farting Monkey end screen! 🀣 Well done!
  9. I will hypothesize that the main reason for the V2.0 update was to provide the Remote with a program and compatibility with the Xtreme Hunter and they used that as a chance to bundle in the fix for the Goldfield program. I just tested mine and can confirm that all factory and custom programs on the Remote work normally with the pinpoint function. Also Magnetic Accept and Reject seem to function normally, although I'm not on a salt water beach to try that out properly. I will hook up my WS6 Master setup and test it shortly.
  10. I never use a tip protector. I use a TRX, F-Pulse, X-Pointer Max, and MI-6. The only one that has worn out on me was my Pro-Find 35, but that was from a small crack in the search tube near the handle that allowed moisture inside. I do ocassionally get dig-happy with my pinpointers, but they all seem to be holding up well. I consider anything that makes contact with the ground (Pinpointers, Push Probes, Diggers, Shovels, Coils covers, etc) to be wearables and know that they will all have to be replaced at some point. Oddly enough, the only thing I wear down is my Push Probes, which are steel T-handled hex wrenches. They start out with a nice rounded end and wear down to an ice pick that's a couple of inches shorter than when they started out in about a year or so of use. Fortunately, in about 4 years of fairly constant use, none of the other items have had to be replaced yet due to wear. 😎
  11. Man, sohN, you worked hard for that silver dime!πŸ˜‰ But you always do work hard, so I hope the next hunt has many more great finds waiting for you!
  12. I keep my WSA II in a pouch also. As far as I know, I don't think the remote will display headphone battery status, but the WSA IIs have a 17 hour run time so I just make sure to fully charge everything before going detecting and don't even think about the batteries.
  13. I can see you're becoming more interested in the D2. I don't have any experience with the other detectors listed except the Nox800, Vanquish 540, and Gold Bug 2. I didn't see any Whites or Garretts, but I'd lump the ones I've had in with the First Texas single frequency machines for this poll as far as TID goes. I love my Nox because it brought me back into metal detecting and it will always have a special place, but after getting the D2 and making myself learn it properly, I can't even imagine using another machine, specially since the V1.1 update. I just click with it now and even if there are better machines out there, this is the one that works for me. I mainly hunt by sound and glance at the ID when in doubt. The D2 is a very expressive audio machine. It does tend to lock strong onto good targets in my mineralized parks and iron laden relic grounds with the right settings for the environment, and when you learn the sounds you almost don't need a TID. Just my experince so far. 😎
  14. Well, I went ahead and updated to V2.0. I will say that was the quickest and easiest update so far. I knocked out the Remote, WS6, WSA-II, and WSA-II-XL headphones in a matter of minutes and I got my saved programs loaded back up in no time. Now I'll have to make a couple of runs to test it out and see how it goes. 😏
  15. Dang, Jeff, you're on it! Thank you for your in-depth look at the Gold mode in V-2.0! Did you have to update the puck or headphones too? I'm curious if the other programs still perform normally as in V1.1 or if there have been changes to other features too. I may have to bite the bullet and give it a try. πŸ€”
  16. Lowering the Max Frequency from 40 kHz to 24 kHz can help mitigate EMI. So can lowering the Audio Response, but turn up the Sensitivity to compensate. The D2 is a lot hotter machine than the Nox, so turn down Sensitivity when searching near big iron in playgrounds and beach chairs, etc. Also using the smaller 9" coil helps there too. I usually run Sensitivity between 88-92 with the 9" coil in playgrounds and can pick out good targets within an inch of an iron pole.
  17. Excellent hunt and congrats on sniffing out the old finds, well done!
  18. Hmmm, and just when I was getting really comfortable with V1.1... I think I'll wait this one out for a while. 😏
  19. Congrats on your gold ring, Sinclair, well done! The D2 is a different critter for sure. I came from the Nox as well and it took me a while to learn its language, in fact I'm still learning, but in High Sqr audio, it is the most expresive detector I've owned and when you get used to the sounds, it will tell you much more about what is hidden in the ground. Get out with the D2 alot and listen to eveything you dig and learn its sounds. Dig things that think are bad signals at first to learn what trash sounds like too. Then dig iffy signals and sometimes you'll be surprised with gold, as you have already seen. A crappy signal can be a good signal influenced by other crap near it in the ground. Turn and sweep on crappy signals and if the ID stays the same, dig it! Happy Hunting! 😎
  20. My PF35 actually worked fine until it finally died of a cracked case. It wasn't as deep as my other pinpointers, but it was the most sensitive to tiny metal targets by a noticeable margin. I wonder if the number associated with the PFs means the frequency employed. If the PF35 was operating at 35 kHz, that would explain why it was so sensitive to tiny gold. And would that also imply that the new PF40 may be operating at 40 kHz? πŸ€”
  21. Thanks Rick, I like iron finds too. I had to limit myself and not dig all the good sounding iron on that hunt or my Jeep would have been scraping the ground all the way home from the weight! 😏
