I would also suggest adjusting the Audio Response a tad lower. Try 3-4 max and see if that helps. @Jeff McClendon will probably chime in here since he's an avid gold prospector and was helpful in getting the gold mode made more sesitive in the V 2.0 update.

That's the magic of the elliptical coil design. The narrower side to side area reduces ground and EMI interference while the center front to back overlap area has more of a laser-like focus into the ground. It is the best design for separating targets.

Also check the charged voltage of the rechargeable lithium 9-volts. Some only charge to a max 8.2-8.4 volts. This might not make a big difference in a pinpointer, but it will have a shorter runtime between charges than a battery that tops out at 9.2-9.4 when charged.

That's a big "Me Too!" I really enjoy seeing all the wonderful stuff detectorists find, but in my quest for detecting and detector knowledge I found the DP forum and quickly discovered that when you jump into such a huge pool of real knowledge, you can't help but soak some of that in. It's a valid question and one we've been debating since SMF detectors hit the market. The easiest way to test this is to set all of the settings in each preset to the exact same setting levels, Max Frequency, and audio scheme, and do some live target hunting. If the presets are identical in structure, there should be no difference in target responses when switching to other presets. Keep in mind that Sensitive, Sensitive Full Tones, and Fast are actually built on the same basic structure but there could be differences there too, so for testing puposes, try General, Sensitive, Park, and Deep HC all set at identical settings and see what you find out.

There will be more tales for sure. Our first snow is always around Halloween and then it "warms" up a bit for the next few weeks to the 50s-60s. Usually I'll hunt all year regardless of the weather, it's just more fun in the nice weather! 😉

I've been watching some early videos by Accupoint beta testers who have been released from their NDAs, and while I know they have beta versions of the pinpointer, the performance in live digs looks about the same as the ProFind 35, which was fine but not stellar. One tester described the Accupoint as "okay". Another had his set on 9 sensitivity while comparing it with his Carrot on undug park ground targets, and the Carrot was clearly hitting deeper targets than the Accupoint. Most of the other testers were only showing shallow target finds (2-3 inches) and air tests with the Accupoint. Also the ferrous tone seems to operate similar to the ProFind 35 and XPointer Max, in that the tone sound like non-ferrous until it is within about an inch of a ferrous target and then it switches to the ferrous tone. Now that just may be the way a descrimination circuit has to work in the small form factor of a pinpointer, but I was hoping for a deeper ferrous identification. Now to be fair, only one tester showed that his sensitivity was set at 9, and another stated that Nokta was going to update the Accupoint using the beta testers information before release. So I expect to see some better tests as soon as the market ready versions hit retailers, so I'll wait and watch hoping that the updated version is much better and I'm really hoping this will be the case.

Good on you for returning the gold class ring, that's only going to bring you more gold, but you can keep your jellyfish! 😱 I'll stick with my bears and rattlesnakes, and since we've already had a substantial snowfall, they should all be going in for their winter's nap. 😉

Perfect illustration, Jeff! Another case and point for the advantage of a 9x5" elliptical coil...

There are many of us who want a 10x5" or similar coil to hunt trashy and iron filled land sites. The 9" round is a great coil and surprisingly deep and I use it a lot, but I use the 9" for for sites with generally shallower targets (8" or shallower) that hide in and under the debris. It has great separation (as do all the XP coils) but an elliptical coil separates even better and can be used to get into rocks, shrubery, and tight spots that the 9" round cannot. It's a more surgical coil for us relic hunters and a perfect compliment for the 11x13" coil. If XP can make a FMF version of their original D1 9x5" coil, it would be perfect. BTW, I had a 6", 10x5", 11", & 12x15" coil for my ML detector and used my 10x5" coil 99% of the time, so I sold the other coils.

That's one of those things that detector companies keep secret. We don't know the exact circuit chain structures, but there is enough information out there (including this video) to find usable workarounds. No detector will eliminate all EMI, so we just have to adapt on the fly.

There does seem to be internal differences between many of the programs that are not controlled by user settings. Although Deep HC (and the other programs) were developed before the update that allows changing the Max Frequency setting, other changes have been made to many of the programs that are not user controllable. This is most likely why there are so many preset programs instead of just one preset that can be user adjusted to suit any and all conditions.

Thanks Chase, the updateability is a big plus. I didn't ever gel with the X-Pointer Max, but I had the first version and it just falses all the time even in lower sensitivity in my dirt. I almost went for the newer version, then the ProFind 40 came out and I was considering that, but now I'm glad I waited. I'm not looking to replace my MI-6 but to compliment it and I think, unless an MI-7 drops before December, the Accupoint might just have to go on my Christmas list for the same reasons you described. 😉

I have received emails from a few dealers aying they were expecting them in stock in the first couple of weeks in November. However I think I'll wait until the first reviews come in. I wonder if it's going to be updatable.
