  1. The Colorado hornytoads are smaller than the ones we had in Central Texas when I was a kid, which were the size of Volkswagens. 😉
  2. Ride that hot streak, Dave, when you're hot, you're hot, when you're not, you're not! 😉 Great finds and a testament to your skill and persistance, well done!
  3. Thanks F350! No marks on the hoop earring or infinity necklace. The earring was attracted by a magnet but the infinty was not.
  4. I almost never use high notches when detecting, but at a recent detecting club hunt at an old, but still used rodeo and fair ground, I decided to throw caution to the wind. The club has hunted there before and many silver coins have been found, but this time the silvers were much fewer, but still being found. So for this hunt, I ran Fast Full Tones and notched up to 79, with a small hole from 59-63 for nickels, to eliminate chasing the deluge of pull tabs and ring pulls. It was a hot dry day and while I was wading through a pile of bottle caps, I got a visit from a curious local. Apparently he wanted to know what I was doing in his neighborhood, but decided to hang out for a little while to see if I found anything good. We hung out together for a little while and then he headed home to get out of the sun. The coinshooting setup was working pretty well hitting quarters, dimes, and pennies. I found a bunch of copper Memorial pennies and even popped a couple of crusty Wheat pennies, but the oldest quarters and dimes I got were 1965. I took a break for lunch and to cool off for a bit and then headed back out. I took about four steps off the road and hit a banging 82. As I dug down 4 or 5 inches expecting a nice big bottle cap, I was pleasantly surprised by the glint of gold! It turned out to be a broken 10K class ring from 1960! Well that made my hunt and was really the only other good signal I got that day, but that was definitely good enough for me. 😎
  5. Here's one listed on Ebay, but it doesn't state the age. https://www.ebay.com/itm/304226528369?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=fFk-1bmKQpC&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=SG0iqKmiTDi&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  6. Nice find! I'd guess it's anywhere from the mid 1800s to early 1900s.
  7. Congrats on the gold finds @midalake! I was on another relic site a few days ago and was experimenting with different Sensitivity and AR settings, and found that lower Sensitivity and higher AR in the square nail beds really made the non-ferrous targets pop through the iron noise at that particular site.
  8. Thank you for reporting your findings @Jeff McClendon, it was very informative! I was considering getting an ORX for getting back into prospecting, but your report has me thinking about trying the Single Frequency 45kHz program first. I use Single Frequency quite a bit to check iffy signals and it seems to be very accurate so I'm not surprized it does have some prospecting potential afterall. Now if we just get that 9x5" FMF coil for Christmas, I think the D2 coil stable will be complete. 😏
  9. Thanks GB! I think we were at about 8000 feet or so. The property owner has expressed interest in reopening the mine which yielded gold, silver, and lead, so any high grade or nuggets are to be given to the owner. We are currently in talks about future activities and if we can aid in clearing the townsite area. We'll see how it goes.
  10. Way to go, OG, persistence pay off! Well done and may Karma reward you with some 5 foot cuts! 😎
  11. A couple of weekends ago I got to go on a permission that according to the owner has never been metal detected. It was a gold mine from about 1876 to 1889 and has a small ghost town nearby. When we got there, I could see why it probably has never been hunted. Town site was completely covered with waist to chest high sage brush! There was really nothing visible that there had ever been anything there except for a small shack poking out of the brush. I had my Deus 2 with the 9"coil, but this place left me really wishing hard for a small D2 elliptical coil and a Bush Hog! Never the less, I did manage to squeeze out some cool finds and a couple of firsts for me. As I waded into the overgrowth, I remembered it was rattlesnake country and I tried to keep a watchful eye and ear out for slithery sentries guarding the possible treasure hoards. I never did see one, which is a little disconcerting, but never heard one either, which was somewhat comforting. I plowed away trying to find any hole in the brush to poke my coil into and began making finds right away, which was a good sign. The D2 did a good job sorting through the obligatory ghost town iron contamination, although I will dig anything that sounds interesting because there can also be cool iron artifacts. At one point I made it out of the brush and wandered up a hill above town following some trees next to a ravine and got a honking 84 tone and dug my first ever musket ball! I know most of you relic hunters probably throw those away, but they super rare around here and I like them. At the end of the day, I had pounds of iron and non-ferrous finds to clean and try to identify. One of my other firsts was an unusally large caliber rifle cartridge which one of my detecting club members IDed as a Sage Ammunition Works .56-50 caliber cartridge for a M1860 Spencer rifle. So it may be Civil War era and the fist of that kind I have found out here. So I ended up with some cool buttons, bits, bobs, and bullets, a pocket watch back, a small spoon that may be for a baby, and some kind of small medallion that has an old European looking lion on the front and some raised writing on the back that also looks foreign to me. One of the other fellows hunting there that day found a beautiful 1876 Seated Liberty quarter, so I feel like there are potentially more excellent finds hiding there. I'm hoping we can go back with a bulldozer and clear that land for the owner and open it up for some proper hunting. 😉
  12. Nice, thanks for that, Jeff! Now I'd like to see some used in the dirt. It seems nobody has made any field tests or videos yet which seems weird. There's a "slightly used' one already listed on Ebay by Serious Detecting. I was hoping to replace my dead PF35, but that doesn't bode well. 🤔
  13. Wow, OG, well done! Congrats on the gold and silver!
  14. Now that another great haul, well done! Congrats on the dollar coins and the ring! Dollar coins are getting rare in my part of the country. And you got two more cars for the lot, way to go! 😉
  15. That canteen is a rare find indeed, Doc, well done!
  16. Maybe you can find someone with a dead Pro Find 35 that they might give to you (or sell it real cheap) to use the case. Mine finally died after 4 years but I found it had developed a crack along the black barrel close to the handle and water got into it, so I threw it away.
  17. Great job and good on you both! That was a tough target to hit, well done! It looks like your son may have inherited some of your skills and now you have a jewelry rescue partner. 😉
  18. Nice finds and congrats on the gold ring! The other ring looks silver. Well done!
  19. That's a good load of finds in your new area. Congrats on the Kennedy half, silver dime, Buffalo nickel, and State Farm tag, well done! It looks like that area has some good potential and maybe not much competition. Good Hunting!
  20. Yeah, because they were all on me! So many of the little blood suckers were stuck on me that I looked like a pin cusion! 🤣
  21. That's a honker, congrats on the gold and well hone! Real pawn shops have to compete with online prices and also have to sell online to survive these days, so that should be a competitive price on that ring. The PawnStars shop adds a hefty TV/tourist attraction premium to everything they sell because they can. 😉
  22. Nice haul, F350, it looks like you got your beach program dialed in, well done! You should have enough toy cars now to open a used car lot online! 🤣
  23. Excellent hunts, palzynski, well done! Beautiful scenery and who doesn't love a medieval castle? So cool! 😎
  24. What a cool find and you did a great job on restoring it, congrats!
