  1. DDancer, Reading through your posting, one thing has stood out your threshold settings are in the range I use, or close to I vary between about 0-15 (audio smoothing off, varying sensitivity) most are using threshold settings in the 20`s which with audio smoothing off is way too high for me. I cannot understand how one would pick up those slight changes with such a high threshold. Works for me and obviously works for you. My volumes in the same range, is it a variance that our machines have?
  2. Like all machines, it is the operator that makes it, early on in my use I used the reset function a bit because I`d get it out of "wack" ie my fiddling would produce results that lead me to believe the Z had a fault. Returning to the factory default taught me I was the fault, once this is accepted by a operator, the machines potential can be exploited. The Z has a ability that is still amazing me, and I suspect that will be so for many more years. My message to new chums is leave it in its default if it is not getting you gold, your simply either not putting it over gold or not hearing what it is telling you plus of course not going slow and low. Detecting gold is a mental exercise, if your not feeling positive are frustrated and lost your patience better to sit under a shady tree and drink, but for the new chum it is very hard to get this and even harder to get this message across to them. Not necessarily to just the new chum either, I`ve learnt a lot from my son who hasn`t got a 1,000th or more of the time I`ve had behind a detector. He kills me consistently.
  3. That certainly is a concise positive report, they are starting to filter in, tis got me getting itchy to get out amongst it. For me I just trust MLs comparison with the 14", ordered my 19" many months ago. Be tops to see Nenads & the GHs report.
  4. The swing arm is probably going to be a must, Jokes aside I`ve another hipstick coming to add to left hip, well to trial anyway. Suspect we are going to have to carry our picks as when mounted high on back it interferes when recovering. No doubt someone will come up with a harness as we get down the track.
  5. It is the moderators that keep the Naysayers out, for that we have Steve to thank, he removes their posts pronto. I did witness such early in this thread.
  6. Got you Dave, I`m guilty of never using a man made test bed, it is out in the field in Momma Natures test bed where my swinging is done, hopefully weather permitting I will soon be running my 19" over ground that proved (to me) minelabs Zs 40% gain over the 5000 with the coils at that time. I say that because I believe the new age coils narrowed that gain somewhat. I have faith in MLs marketing "claims" their machines have consistently came up with the goods for me since they become involved in this game. I do know one thing, I will need a better harness system then I have used with the 14", perhaps I`ll join the "Stranger with the hipstick on each hip".
  7. Jasong, I agree with you in principal, unfortunately incorrect data brings results that doesn`t lead to advancement as history portrays over and over. Tis reality that humans make mistakes, my data on the 19" is in conflict with other data so far but it is far to early and imprudent for me to even consider adding my data to the mix, and as experience has taught me in regards to detectors and coils, use of such is a very personal experience. Thus my data will certainly be false to some, that data only has to lead me to gold, tis a individual thing certainly not a reflection on a persons character.
  8. The clue to those negative reports is to look back in the past and check out those same people and the reports they gave when the Z originally came out. Then look down the track a bit and if you look closely and are a real detector detective you`ll find the answer. Take notice of these early reports, don`t get a 19", tis good for those who have a 19".
  9. Many thanks for that, yes I was contacted by importer about mod sent it back for mod, by time I`d received it back had a Garret A2B which in those days was loosely equivalent to the Z today. Whilst I did use it after mod, it just was not up to the A2B in the gold field. But it did well before the A2B and I prospected with fellows using Whites 6000D & Garett DSs and believed it had the edge on them. You have solved what Mod was for as I`ve lost all documentation and a lot of Memory. ie brain is fragmented badly.
  10. No No No, Paul not the littleuns show us the biguns. Crikey SS he`s holding out, been running around with a 19" for 10 days at least and shows us a few scraps, don`t weaken, hold firm.
  11. Yeah, running with 0 threshold might go against the "norm" but like you Condor I`ve also found it is another trick up our sleeves. One of the many ways to operate our machines that just aren`t mentioned in the manuals, but works out there. In OZ we call it Bogenes after the old codger that advocated it yonks ago.
  12. Wears a hipstick on each hip and eternal grin on the dial, approach with extreme caution. Could have drooling partners following to ambush.
  13. Nah your just protecting him, he`s out there getting a head start with the 19", bloody nuggets like hens eggs and a few Emu egg size and he`s gonna let you have a go if your lucky (after he`s cleaned up the US that is). But he`s being very quiet, maybe he has moved to OZ already??????????
  14. Well I have it on good authority, that at least 1 fellow other than JP has a 19" coil in this 4M, you`ll know who it is if you check who has been absent from posting lately, the lad/lads are being very coy, rumour is amongst all the little ones he`s got a bigun.
  15. Tis the nature of us huuumans........... show what your get and some huuumans decide they are rings ins (cos they can`t find em or whatever) don`t show and some huuumans decide your holding back (cos your just a greedy bugger or whatever). Tis the nature of our species regardless of race, applies not only to gold. "Gold brings out the best in his ingenuity, worst in his nature." I don`t know who we owe this Quote to, but he/she was on the money. Can`t wait til Nov 14 coil (release day in OZ), tis bloody hot out there but wild horses wont hold the 19" back.
  16. Gold Seeker that is a top read although I`m going to have a few rereads to absorb it all. No the host rock is limestone almost marble mainly so acid would no doubt destroy its appeal to me in short time. The gold was on 70% and silver on a whisker below 30%. Photo is highly optically magnified, specci only 3/4" wide, 1.5 " long and 1/2 " deep, the photo showing only about 1/2"x1/2". My brag piece since finding. Mamma Nature at her best.
  17. This is my favourite, got with a Bounty Hunter RB10, back in the 80`s. For two reasons, it`s uniqueness and tis my most unique. Probably only a couple of grams in, I`ll never find out as to crush it would be sacrilege.
  18. Yeah appears the other threatening detector manufacturers have been kept out of the competition, is XPs turn, hope they have it to be a David. Ver 4 must be a corker. I love the Deus, and the Z. Maybe a compromise, swap their no wires for whatever it is ML is going them for. Ohhh... but I`m a dreamer. What, as customers, can we do to register our displeasure with such, I`m not going to boycott by not buying MLs products that`s for sure?
  19. When the 2200 came out (first PI with auto GB) I was loaned a test machine and sent a email review as requested, stating it was a OK machine but it`s Auto GB cancelled out gold, as with time we found all the auto GBs PIs did and once setting GB in auto switch back to manual to search. Regardless I bought that 2200, but since then I don`t get a reply from emails to ML. Minelab make by far the best gold detectors so I guess they believe they have the right to be somewhat arrogant. Tis the same here in OZ, SS tis their nature.
  20. Interesting ML want a jury based trial, maybe should be made up of detector owners only. Note also"perhaps' just a coincidence complaint filed about when Deus ver 4 was to be released. Desperation.......... what has ver 4 got the earlier versions haven`t? Maybe ver 4 has an advanced GB that solves VLFs poor ground handling capability.
  21. SS, have had some success with extra deep, with machine full bore and no audio smoothing, ground noise and EMI is much less. Also it is handy to switch to extra deep to pinpoint and recover nugget quicker, signal whilst more mellow is picked up over a smaller area of coil, even down to 1/2 grammers
  22. Fred, for top computer fixes I`ve found the grandkids are the best, just have to bribe them, to spend the time to fix senile old grandpas computer. Drive em to ice cream parlour.......... job done............
  23. Nah, think that`s XPs new ML killer coil. But then again..............has ML bowed to pressure and gone wireless?
  24. A "reliable" source has informed me one of this 4M members has received a Z 19" coil, names are withheld to protect the guilty.
