  1. Thanks for the inside information, after reading this i am putting all my detectors up for sale and buy the state of the art 540,thanks for the heads up on this high end technological wonder.
  2. I use one on my DFX,must admit it is possibly my all time favourite pinpointer that is until my MI-6 probe on my Deus which basically does the same job ie you hear everything through your headphones. I still use it occasionally with the DFX but use different machines these days, only thing you have to remember is flick the switch back to normal detecting again after pinpointing,a few times i have left it in pinpointing mode and not found anything for a while then realised what the issue was/is. Can highly recommend them.
  3. Welcome from just north of Roman Londinium in the UK.
  4. Those are some outstanding finds, very well done and i reckon some more interesting stuff could be in that same location.
  5. I use the GPX harness that came with the machine, absolutely no weight what so ever once you get the balance right, currently running a Coiltek 14x9 coil on the GPX and can swing it with just 2 fingers, well worth spending a few minutes working out the balance point on the shaft to attach the bungy cord. I just carry a small energy drinks bottle attached to my finds bag.
  6. Welcome to the forum, regards from the UK
  7. Redz, sometimes i can make things so complicated for myself but you have answer my question in just 2 simple lines but that was the answer that i was over looking.......will give my Coiltek 14x9 a initial try out and possibly my 18'' Detech coil. Thanks again
  8. I am aware that this is oldish thread, but it is very relevant to me at the moment,i have a selection of GPX mono coils that i use/d with my TDI Pro.But since i have just recently got my GPX4500 i started buying DD coils to take advantage of the iron rejection. This has had me thinking am i buying the right coils ie DD for my type of detecting here in the UK which is predominately hoard/artefact hunting, currently have my GPX setup with a 11'' DD AI coil but after reading this road i am having my doubts ??our ground here in the UK is very mild infact very very mild compared with say some areas across the pond and in Aussie land. As i will be mainly using the GPX on cleanish ground conditions i am having 2nd thoughts about going totally down the DD route, these are these smaller sub 15'' coils that i have the option of using for hoard hunting. Stock ML 11'' Mono 6'' Coiltek Mono Coiltek 14x9 Mono Detech 11'' DD AI coil ML 15X12 Mono ML 15X12 DD Detech 18'' Mono I dont really want to use the large coils unless i really have too,so was wondering is the Coiltek 14x9 a candidate for a everyday use coil for pasture or deep ploughed or just use the stock 11'' Mono, this thing about not really being able to use the iron rejection is really niggling me,or should i just keep using one of my VLF machines till the time to say locate the hoard and then change over to the GPX with a Mono coil. Any input would be most welcome as i am going around in circles changing coils over thinking that i have the right coil combination for the GPX.
  9. Daniel, that is on my shopping list and probably will be ordering one this weekend, the weight is a slight concern though, but as i will be using a harness i dont think it will be a major worry as such.
  10. Guys gold.many thanks for your suggestion, have just found a supplier here in the UK,so will probably give them a try, they do look very good and also very lightweight as well.
  11. Good morning folks, looking for some advice please for a wireless headphone setup for my GPX4500,i have a decent set of wired headphones and they do work a treat but what with the battery cable and headphone cable and also the bungee cord as well, looking at loosing at least on wire ie the headphones. Not really fussed if it Blutooth or 2.4ghz. I have a Docs screamer package coming next week,so that should eliminate the battery power cable in theory that is,so can anyone please direct me into a decent wireless headphone setup that does not cost the earth, its not a case of me being unable to afford a decent setup its just that i am very very frugal with my money or in laymans language tight. Weather is looking dry for the weekend as its been raining here in the UK for a very long time and the fields are totally swamped. Many thanks
  12. Tom,out of those coils that you got with the GPX which one/s do you plan on using on that new permission that you have got ??
  13. Welcome to the forum and greeting from the UK.
  14. Tom,that is a fair detecting package that you have just purchased with all the coils it should do very well for you....like yourself i have also just recently purchased a GPX4500 and all ready had a fair few MONO coils that i used on my TDI Pro. Regarding the iron rejection although i own said machine have not really been out with it due to the constant rain here in the UK,but from my initial test on the IR it does seem to work reasonably well,i have a 18'' Detech Concentric coil coming with acts both like a DD and Mono but from what i can gather it has even better IR with this coil over DD coils,i cannot confirm this as it has not arrived yet but will give some feedback when it arrives. I will be using my GPX for a very similar type of detect which is Artefact/Hoard hunting on deep pasture and also deep ploughed ground as well, which most VLF machines wont reach. Good luck and keep us updated on how it goes.
  15. Its a shame that Kev from Staffs detecting has retired, have purchased many coils and detectors from him over the years, mainly GPX coils for my TDI Pro,may favourite is the ultra lightweight Coiltek 14x9 Mono but that would not suit detecting in the surf as the coil is foam filled and would float like a cork......my latest purchase from Kevin was my GPX 4500 in amazing condition. End of a era.
  16. If in doubt don't clean the item, have seen many a beautiful and in some cases very valuable coins/items rendered worthless because they have been cleaned...If it is say a really heavily corroded roman grot as we call them and you cannot see any detail what so ever then go for it,of course this is really only applicable to UK silver/bronze coinage. But for the most part i would advice stay away from electrolysis, chemicals or any form of abrasive cleaner, they may look lovely and clean but collectors much prefer them exactly as they are with the original patination on the item. Of course the item is yours and you can basically do what you like with it,but after seeing a very valuable coin over cleaned and worthless it was such a shame but the guy had no idea,so hence my comment 'if in doubt dont'.
  17. Some amazing finds, alas i live right inland and it takes me a few hours each way to the coast,so although i do occasionally do beach detecting down on the south coast most of my detecting is inland around east anglia region......well done on a amazing haul.
  18. This could be of interest some folks who find or collect military button, its mainly a UK database but as alot of early button had been made by a company called 'Firmin and Co London' who i think had been the largest military button maker in the World,of course i stand to be corrected on that. https://asahelena.wixsite.com/militarybuttons Hope it is of some interest.
  19. David,a massive welcome to the forum from just north of London.
  20. Going by the design i would say that date 1903 would be about right,a really lovely find.
  21. Steve, many thanks for bringing that old post backup again as i have just got myself a GPX,some very good information and well explained.
  22. Steve,i am aware that this is a very old thread and thanks for bringing back upto the top again, must admit it been a tremendous help and explained in laymans language so even i can fully understand it.....i wont be nugget hunting with it as solely will be using it for hoard/artefact hunting here in good old Blighty. Many thanks for all your information.
  23. Nice video and some lovely finds, are you finding the Nexus is living upto it reputation of being a deep machine and your expectations of it being a artefact detector ??
