  1. Thanks Cap, This was kind of a "meh" hunt for me compared to earlier ones, but it was great to get out one more time to fill up the last display box of 2023. πŸ˜€ I present my "Fall Collection" 🀣
  2. Fantastic hunt and Happy New Year to you Sinclair! πŸ™‚ Americans only wish we had coin denominations like other countries, that's a great haul of money πŸ€‘ I've seen a few (myself included) that have found US $1 coin spills, but it is rare. I am so glad to see everyone getting out there and getting last minute "shopping" done 🀣 One more day here, y'all... πŸ€
  3. Nice, Doc! I too like the Bone phones, and your technique shaves 153 grams (5.4oz) off what you have to swing. πŸ‘ My wife just bought me the WSA II XL headphones for Christmas, I figured out how to like them 😏 and now I have to use them. After deer hunting season. πŸ˜€ My solution for the bone phones when I use them in water is to put them on so the cable is behind my head and goes around my back, haven't had much of a problem. Also like what you did with the Nomad, it's harder to be seen relieving ones self in the woods with camo. My current response to "why do you guys wear camouflage?" πŸ€ͺ I just bought a fleece headband today at Home Depot, going to see if it will hold the WSA II backphones closer to my ears and still give me some situational awareness, the winters have been warmer here of late, and I can't always wear a beanie. πŸ™‚ Or the XL's.
  4. That I'm sure is fine, but my whole point here was that manufacturers will fix hardware and make changes, and reserve the right not to tell you. I don't think a single company tells you everything. Did they "source" that V1.0-V2 made the detector more bump sensitive? No. In that simple respect, every program was changed. Heh, about the only one I don't use is Goldfield. It's a plain fact that the D2 is now overall more bump sensitive. πŸ™‚ Have you been using V2? I even told the OP when I noticed it. I feel as though you were implying I'm misinforming, since you quoted me. πŸ€” Hey, I'll take a gauntlet to the face anytime. 😏 My mistake was assuming the OP was afraid to update, and then he explained why. We're good. If he doesn't want to roll with the new punches, that's his choice, and I wish him well. He wanted to know if it was just him that noticed it. πŸ™‚ It's not just him.
  5. Congratulations GG. πŸ‘ It was about that long before I found one myself, actually two in one spot. 2 that had hallmarks anyway. πŸ™„ From what I've read here the most successful ring diggers can show you a bucket full of pull tabs for every ring they get. It's probably when I accepted that and better learned how my detector sounds and acts (and dug a lot of pull tabs πŸ˜€) that they started coming in. Great way to end the year, isn't it? πŸ†
  6. But I'm sure you'll be able to tell me everything they didn't do from all your experience with V2, right? πŸ™„
  7. Thanks RVP, I wish the targets were infinite! πŸ˜… Chase and I went to a field nearby hoping to find more in a place we have hunted a lot, and we both commented on what a "desert" it was. 😡 I think he got one thing, I got nuttin. 🀣 But, one of the things Chase found in the first field was 230 years old, it had a date on it πŸ™„ 🀐
  8. Thanks Chase, it was a great year of relic hunting. Looking forward to your recap! πŸ‘
  9. I'm keeping a follow on this, it's probably the first I've seen of anyone having trouble with the RC. Sad that you had to part with your investment, You can use the WS6 in the meantime, which no other detector can claim. I recently bought a second RC and WS6 for peace of mind, I had a pretty good experience from a USA repair center. Please keep us informed. πŸ™‚
  10. I think Geologyhound nailed it, I swing fast while scouting for the same reason and because I can 😎, the processors are so fast on the newest machines it almost doesn't matter. Sometimes I am blown away with what new machines can do in milliseconds. I keep my coil flat and never too high over the ground. I'll change modes and sensitivity if there is stubble. It's never too fast however like some people we've seen in videos. πŸ™„ You're going to miss stuff. If you have repeat permission to return, it isn't all that critical, and next time you can go in a tangential or perpendicular direction. 😁 I'm also a fan of the "grab" that Schoolofhardnox mentioned, a high blip and I'm on it, trying to get it centered for a precise reading. It's an acquired skill. The "turn" is also important, turning 45-90-360 on something can render all the info you need. The benefit of this, and it's important to me, is to get my coil over the most good stuff in the least time. πŸ˜€
  11. Great story and beautiful gold, Skull Diver. πŸ‘ The way you wrote that speaks well of your passion for the craft, I often envy the people with SCUBA experience, it's probably something I'll never do but wish I could. I'd say that diving probably brings the most return, the investment and risk are great. Seems you had a great year. πŸ‘ Best of luck to you in the coming one.
  12. Thanks Doc, I did check... Some really cool things were found along that old road. There is a large patch of nothing but iron, I can only imagine what is hiding there. Might dust off the old Tesoro and hit it sometime. πŸ€” I've seen what that thing can do with silver under iron.
  13. Thanks Colonel, So little time, so much to do. πŸ˜€ Another 5 hour 5 mile hunt. It's fun to hunt with Chase, bounce wild theories off him and get advice. I think we both have an affinity for history. We have it here by the boatload, and I appreciate his knowledge of detectors. While my permissions do have a fair amount of interesting relics, it sure takes a while to find them!
  14. Just can't stay inside this season! Here in VA we have been blessed repeatedly with perfect detecting weather between insanely powerful nor'easters. Chase told me he'd be able to come down today, who am I to refuse πŸ˜€ I asked him to pick from all the places to go, and when we got there I said "I'm not ready to give up on that field", a field we kind of hunted but were disappointed. A very old road went through it, it was part of a large plantation. It's not a particularly large field, and looks kinda nondescript, but it sure had its surprises. Somewhere in the middle is an iron patch, the original road ran through it to the left. You can see where we parked in the background. Today I had the Deus 2 and used the 13" all day. Yesterday I was out in front of the house with the 11" after the 3d 3"+ rain we have had in a month, I was testing out my new WSA II XL headphones. Here's a tip: When you first connect a new pair of headphones to the D2 it comes up with the equalizer initialized "flat". I was very disappointed with the audio from them until I first restarted the detector, and then adjusted the equalizer to the way I like it. Dug two buttons and quit for the day. Back to the field. πŸ˜€ I did fairly well today, not too much stuff but Chase definitely won the day, I'll let him tell you. 🀐 First the trash, literally nothing in the iron patch is from later than the 18th century, with the exception of beer can slaw in what I now call "The Beer Zone", it's the 20 or 30 feet in from any road that passes the field, dirt or paved. 😁 I'll have to add that to Farm Hunting 101 for those of you that read it. Not even a handful of bullets, buckshot, wire and one piece of forged iron that managed to fool me. Top object is some sort of "hot rock". I did get the stainless nut heading over to another field where I found nothing. The big brass washer is some kind of bushing, it was a 96 on the Deus. Finds were scarce but very old: Got a very old brass padlock, a 94! The next two buttons came from the field out front of my house. One is silver plated and very thin, thought I'd found a hammered silver. It says PLATED on the back. Next is a Tombac. Bottom row is a very old ring with the stone missing, it's mangled but unbroken. Even has gold flecks indicating that it may have been plated. It was a solid 62, a nickel signal. The buckle bits are really fancy, wish I found more of it. Last is a very highly decorated one piece domed button, the shank is gone. It's possible the center had an initial cast in it, but it's too hard to tell and I don't want to mess with it anymore. There are no backmarks. All in all a satisfying hunt, speaking of hunts we were surrounded by hunters all day but they did not object to us being there. πŸ™‚ Here's a special nod to @Doc Bach, after I dug the padlock I got a "Fruit Salad" iron tone with all kinds of high tones, and dug what I think is an iron stirrup piece: So yeah, you're right. 😝
  15. Awesome! love those "find a minute" kind of hunts, but I see where you would shift gears and "go for the old" (to "coin" a phrase πŸ˜€) Congrats on the old ones, and you got a silver coin too! Sometimes I'll clean up those old tokens if they have high relief. Probably shouldn't mention how 😏Take a picture of the result and it may pop up on Numista if you use Google Lens. Nice early Matchbox too. Did you use the 13" ?
  16. Hey Doc, While I hate to wax off topic 😏 especially in someone else's thread, in penitence I searched for "backpack wheelbarrow" and found one: There are other lighter ones that hold up to 80 pounds but this one probably best illustrates what I would need. πŸ˜… 350 years of plowing fields yields a lot of plough parts and other objects made from the swords and spears of conflict. When I do dig iffy targets (probably forged) they nearly always turn out to be oddly shaped heavy broken iron, maybe that's why there aren't a lot of rocks here anymore πŸ€” Or not 🀣 When I first started detecting I nobly thought I would help the farmers by removing some of the iron that gets caught in their machines causing damage, but quickly discovered the folly. 😁 My pouch was never large enough. I'll look into finding an eager assistant to wield this mighty device. Perhaps there are still a few Squires... But seriously i should make a day of it now and then. πŸ™‚
  17. Well you still got some stuff near or over 100 years old! πŸ‘ I imagine some of the iron is too. Of late I'm feeling kind of guilty for not digging more iron, every time I see your posts especially πŸ˜… I can only imagine what I am missing when I skip it. πŸ€” There aren't any trash cans in the fields, so I have to lug everything out or toss it in the nearest ravine 🀣 As usual, an enviable exercise in detecting discipline. πŸ†
  18. I can tell you I was doing just fine with V0.71. When V1 came out it was very troublesome for me, none of my older programs worked as well and there were issues with pinpoint on the WS6 Master. I've learned to adapt to the newest version. I didn't really notice the extra bump sensitivity until I updated to V2, but I did so at the end of the beach season. It wasn't until I got out in the fields with corn stalks and bean stubble that it stood out, but to me the extra sensitivity is worth the noise. Now I completely understand why you are reluctant to update, I hope that you can roll it back to V0.71 if you don't like V1.1. I firmly believe they did a lot more than they have documented, but can tell you nothing specific. I'm happy with V2 because IDs seem much more solid, I like the addition of High Square audio and all the fixes to the WS6 which I also use frequently. I've even been able to use the WS6 in water by adding a coax cable as a waveguide. I use my Deus anywhere from 2 to 4 times a week, anywhere from 3 to 8 hours each time . I am not an engineer or scientist, so I can't explain the particulars. Yes, it is more sensitive. πŸ™‚ I hope you can find a solution that helps.
  19. Thanks Fogrider, sorry I missed replying to your post, I try to answer all. πŸ™‚ My house was built in 2007, this area was purchased to build a large community but it never happened. A few years ago the old farms in front of my house were sold to a farmer who lives in another county but owns 200 acres not too far away as well. I hunted my own yard first, found some old stuff like buttons and musket balls, and got completely hooked on detecting. I retired in 2021, and got permission to every farm space that farmer owns. 🀯 Some farms are 45 minutes away. The farmer is without a doubt the nicest and most generous individual I have ever met. I found a 1690 Spanish 1 Reale cob in a field right in front of his house, offered it to him, and he said "You dug it, you keep it". Wow. I consider myself extremely fortunate. πŸ™‚
  20. You don't understand because you don't see it in a changelog? πŸ€” My friend, If I lived my life having to see something in print to believe it, I'd have walked off a cliff while looking at my phone for directions. πŸ€ͺ All companies that make electronic devices reserve the right to change some things without telling you to protect themselves from liability, for security, and to avoid embarrassing situations. We are telling you that more has changed than they print. We are the people who have used this detector since it first sold. I personally have hundreds of hours using every version, I have every coil, headphone and accessory. I'm thinking you may be afraid to update the machine. If so that is fine, but don't argue with experience. πŸ™‚
  21. Well let's say V1 and V1.1 had some changes, but V2 sorted them out. IMO everything is better, V2 does a lot more than just fix gold field. It doesn't make sense to stay at V.071. πŸ™‚ V1.1 had its own issues. It doesn't make sense to stay at V1.1 either.
  22. Ordered a new port cover, the best thing about these detectors is you can literally build one from parts. It would be more expensive tho. πŸ€ͺ Totally agree with all of the above, I think this whole experience is of value to anyone with a Deus 2. πŸ™‚
  23. Wow Daniel, that's a bold move and statement. I ended up buying a second RC so I won't miss out if one goes bad. πŸ€ͺ I usually have faith in updates and have been on 2.0 for a while now, it really did make a big improvement. Glad you didn't give up on the D2 but keep something on hand... πŸ€”
