  1. Updated mine this morning, both the WS6 Master and the D2 remote, as well as 2 pairs of WSA II headphones. 😀 I don't see any reason to wait, and they may have fixed other stuff they didn't mention. It was a tiny bit fiddly due to my tiny laptop downloading Windows 11 updates (😵), but after a couple restarts with a couple of devices, it's all done. 🥳 reprogrammed my programs. Don't forget to turn audio volumes up for what you use and down for devices you're not using, and save your pinpointer settings again! It will connect but at default values. One thing I noticed already, and it is not in the change notes, is that my older MI-6 which wouldn't connect well with either the WS6 or D2 previously is connecting ok now with the WS6. 🤔
  2. Nice opportunity. I'm sure if there was anything other than Indian Heads there you would have found it. 👍 I miss finding IHPs. If that 1864 is more copper than bronze it's a rare bird. It definitely has more of a copper look to it!
  3. Wow Cap'n, An impressive and comprehensive snapshot! Great photos and finds. That's some top tier scouting, I can imagine the thrill when the artifacts started popping. It will be interesting to see any history y'all can dig up about what sort of town was there. Best of luck on day 2! 🍀
  4. Thanks Cap'n, the big weekend is upon us and probably the last really good one to score finds on the beach, especially hot wheels 😏 I'll be glad to get back to relic hunting, the crops are almost done.
  5. I have found a few old bottle dumps myself umm, standing at the edge of a ravine at the tree line. 🤣 Necessity can also be the mother of great finds 🤔 I admire your "pluck", and for sure the point. 👍 🙂 Lucky find!
  6. Thanks, my last hunt there yielded one as well, didn't post it. 😀 Chase came down and got a ring but it was also bling. He was more into collecting a set of colored pull tabs 🤔 🤣 Nice Barracuda. 😀 The bottle opener was interesting and the earring was just heavy bling. Wouldn't want that thing hanging from my ear.
  7. I'm recommending the X-Terra Pro to people who ask me on the beach, simply from what I've seen here from those who use it. I'm perfectly happy with my high end detector but when folks want to get started they might as well get something that has a watered down feature set from the big dogs, and a similar feel. Makes for an easier transition to the higher end if they get hooked. Honestly I'm tempted to get one myself just because of how inexpensive it is.
  8. It's probably because most here already bought the Quest discriminating pointer. Got the newer one myself and it seems better than the first version. I'm still leaving the Quest at home for my beach trips, but might look at the 40 in the fall when I'm back relic hunting if it doesn't fit the bill. Right now the Deus 2 is giving me all the discrimination/identification I need, and the MI-6 makes retrieval a snap.
  9. Compass you find so much great stuff I'm pretty sure the replacement is already paid off in fun, sun, and gold. 😀 Most local hardware stores these days, (Ace, True Value) stock a great array of stainless screws as well, often better than the big box stores. Even though I'm in an extremely rural area, there's an Ace 5 minutes away.
  10. Thanks VL, Got a decent amount of aluminum too 🤣 one thing my program does not do is give me a unique sound on those thousand year old ring pulls, and they're not in the range of the newer ones, same with the beaver tails. Those foil covered bottle caps hit almost like the hot wheels, but are a little more recognizable. There are a lot of them these days too, guess people are switching to fancier beer. 😀
  11. Thanks RVP, Going to try the baking soda thing because no silver polish touches the black. Tried Wrights and Weimann. All they do is make shiny black. 😀 I'm pretty sure an electro chemical process is gonna be necessary. I have some Tarn-X as well. Deus 2 hits hard on toys, and they're higher than coins. I'm thinking people aren't paying as much attention to their kids. That's also evidenced by hearing kids say "I'm gonna play with the jellyfish", and later I hear them screaming or crying. Makes me cringe. 😵
  12. Thanks! Yeah, I have all the stuff to do it, but my wife says it leaves a grey patina. 🤔 I guess at that point it would be necessary to use silver polish to finish up?
  13. Thanks man, Still not sure it is gold, but there seems to be a trend toward buying these extremely thin rings, and even solid gold they are cheap. I'm a bit more thrilled by the old cross, hope it turns out to be silver.
  14. Thanks Rick, it was nice to find the unexpected. All of a sudden I hit a small section that produced a few really good finds, most of the day was just random, and like every other hunt there I haven't posted.
  15. Thanks, It was really cool to get older stuff here. I'll have to bring a magnet to see how bad the black stuff is, for all I know it's old fuel or decomposing grass 🤣 Just wanted to point out that deeper relics are showing up! Got sensitivity at 90, any more and more noise. The iron I dug was just because either the tones were crazy or it was a fairly large object. In V1.1 iron is much less of a problem 🙂
  16. Two things motivated me to go detecting yesterday, Hurricane Idalia missed us by about 50 miles, so the weather was perfect, and we had a Blue Moon Tide so it was extremely low. Otherwise I didn't expect much, as this beach gets hit hard on the weekend and Monday. The weather last week was kinda miserable with the hurricane's approach. Tide was high and it was pretty windy when I got there at 7am but would be negatively low at about 10, so I hit the high beach for a while. Got some coins and a couple toys, some pretty good coin spills but not like other hunts. I was using the Hoover program on my Deus 2 with a new twist, sensitivity low, Audio response at 6, and I set Magnetic Reject to "Accept". This is an old steamboat landing place so there is a lot of black sand, I figured I'd try it. Thanks again @midalake, I'm really dialing this in. 🙂 Here's the total take, kinda surprising. Got a pretty good amount of clad over my 6 hours there, I even hunted the southernmost beach. Got the obligatory Hot Wheels, guess a kid did some sorta voodoo with the bus, and the toy fire truck was over a foot down. The lighter is a really nice torch lighter. But here is the highlight of the trip, the four objects in the bottom right corner: Because the tide was way out, I got a strong 60s signal at the waters' edge and after about 4 scoops dug this 1941 Mercury dime! Got my shoes wet because I wear them instead of sandals due to the nasty pebble beach. Oh well. Once I got the dime out I got a another 70s signal immediately and scooped out this old silver filigree crucifix, I'd put it in the 1920s but it could be older or about the same as the dime. It has the same patina as the dime and no hallmarks so I'm assuming it is silver. It weighs about 1-1/2 grams and the dime is 2.2. Went a little further and got a pretty solid 47 signal, and after scooping a ton of muck, pebbles and fine sand I got this tiny gold ring, again no hallmarks: You can see above it's no bigger than the dime, it weighs about .3 grams. I'm not sure if it's gold but my wife likes it. 😀 She has a "nose" for that stuff 🙄 The last real shocker was this old Navy button top with some gilt still on it, apparently the back was lost or rotted away. This is not a high end beach but you just never know what interesting stuff you will find if conditions are right. 🤣 I've found really old coins and all kinds of crazy stuff here. If anyone knows the best way to make silver silver again I'm all ears! Or eyes. 😏 Trash was just a handful, got some Peloponnesian pull tabs and sinkers and zipper pulls, the new beach nightmare.
  17. Nice hunt. Glad to see you back! The thing I dislike the most is the bad muscle cramps after 6-8 hours of digging, I guess it's part of aging. It gets better for me when I can get out more to the farms. A capful of vinegar in a few ounces of water stops them immediately. Is there a way to get the black off silver? You find so much of it I would guess it a chore. 🤔
  18. No problem! I also tested it with the WS6 Master and it works well. Very little noise even in the water.
  19. Hey Rattlehead, Been tweaking this program with help from the forum, particularly Midalake. 🙂 I've used it with the 13" and the 9", and if it's there it shows up down to about 12" give or take black sand. 😀 I call it The Hoover. Option menu: Audio 9 Audio filter 5 Audio type high square Display profile xy Fe tid on Menu Disc 10 Full tones offset ft 0 Bottle Caps 5 Notch off Silencer 0 Sensitivity 95 Salt Sense 5 Freq Max 40 Iron volume 5 Reactivity 0.5 Audio response 6 Tracking GB on Magnetic accept Most aluminum but not all, particularly War of 1812 round pull tabs will have a brassy "trumpet" like tone. This is especially good for larger bits of can slaw. Smaller bits are in the 50s so they may fool ya. Just another tool in the box, but it's really only for V1.1 if you didn't upgrade. Best of luck man! 🍀
  20. Don't tumble or soak your pennies with the other coins! Clean them separately. 🙂
  21. Cap'n gets the gold! 🏆 Nice going, I want to try that fast program when relic season rolls around. 👍 The infinity symbol and hoop earring aren't silver? Look for tiny hallmarks.
  22. Thanks Midalake and Colonel! I went out and do my own test this morning. Just wanted to see for myself, and make sure I'm not missing gold when it's there. Took these 4 rings, 3 gold and one silver to my little beach. It turned out to be a perfect day to detect, river was flat and the tide was still going out. I bagged each one up and air tested them first with my original program at 95 sensitivity and AR at 3. The thin 10 garnet ring was a 45, noticed right off it disappeared at about 5 or 6" above it. The rest were loud up to a foot above. The 14k 150 year old yellow gold ring was a 73/74, white gold heavy band 67, and the silver signet was 91/92. Buried each one about 8" deep at the waterline and tried my original settings (95 sensitivity AR 3), but then set sensitivity to 90 and AR to 6. I heard them all with my original settings but there was a big difference in audio with the 90/6 combination, and the 10k ring had an iron tone until I changed settings, but still gave the 45. The heavy white gold ring was faint until I turned AR up. I found everything was loud and clear even with sensitivity down to 85. The silver ring was loud in every combination. This tells me I haven't been missing much, but I will do a lot better next time I go out with this upgrade to my beach program. I do get some random false low blips and high tones, the high probably come from my cell phone trying to find a tower because there's no signal here, and the low come from coil sensitivity and moving water. I can live with that. The only other thing I'm worried about is chains now, but this may help with that as well. I wish I found something in these perfect conditions, but this is all I got both in the water and on the beach. 🤣 this place is pretty clean.
  23. Thanks! Do you hear a lot of chatter with AR that high, and are you using Beach Sensitive? I might need to look at another setting. 🤔 Or another program. Really appreciate the info. 👍
  24. I'm totally sold on tracking GB now, thanks. 👍 I'm hunting beaches on a river that is brackish, don't need salt sens adjustment higher than 3. You must have a lot of salt and black sand! 🫤 The river sand on one beach is that pure white silica like our Florida friends enjoy, but it's shot through with black sand, and water over and under the coil adds a small bit but not much. AR at 3 causes a lot of chatter. There's no EMI, heck I can hardly get a cell signal. With AR at 1 in the water, Beach Sensitive runs quiet and still hits small bits of cans and sinkers hard at a pretty good depth. (That's all that is there, I can keep it clean) On the beach I can run AR at 3 but not higher and it's still quiet until something is there. I do get a faint but desirable signal now and again, so I'll turn up AR to get it to be clearer, but that brings the other noise back. 🤔 Usually I can't find the object causing the signal regardless. Interested in your results. 🙂
