  1. I remember having this problem in a few places, at a beach and campground with strong WiFi and cell signals, and near a cell tower at one of my farm permissions. Power lines above and below ground will also cause this. About the only remedy was to switch to a single frequency, 10khz in most cases but you have to try them all. I've moved on to a multi frequency detector that doesn't have these issues as much.
  2. Watched this video today too, he mentions the guy and shows him but then drops it. Odd, and kinda creepy.
  3. These objects seem to have a common name, "Roundel". Usually a furniture or uniform decoration, maybe attached to leather for varying decoration. That's about as much as I can find with a cursory search. Yours looks Egyptian, here's an example of a Roman one: I swear it looks like text in the areas GHound mentioned, but anyway this might help you a bit. 🙂 utterly fascinating item. 👍
  4. That's a sharp looking rig, I wouldn't change a thing 🙂
  5. Great hunt SOHN, I'm really surprised you're not turning up lots of Tungsten rings. Guess the surface pickers are getting them! 😀 Looks like you're in stride with discrimination on the M-core, but there's still something to be said about digging it all with the 5000. ðŸĪ” That's a lot of hard hours in what had to be somewhat trifling conditions, the storm passed here with right much wind. I had other things to do thankfully. 😁
  6. What a great hunt Cap'n! Congrats on the Seated, my thought is you'll find more because you're hitting the other half of your stride - the research. 👍 You find a place that promises finds, and you find them. 🙂 bravo. 🏆 Your glass object looks like a sight glass of some kind, is there a slot or hole in the back? If it's solid it could be a paper weight. The other object appears to have some text on it, perhaps a bit of persuasion with 0000 steel wool or some cleaning pencils might bring out some detail. I'm thinking Nefertiti or something, but you've got lots of great suggestions. Fascination with Egyptian was much more prevalent than South American artifacts.
  7. Totally agree with you Colonel, I'm not disparaging SteveG at all, the initial post was regarding the WS6 puck popping off if you have large hands, at least that's where we ended up. 🙂 Since BT man bought the Anderson rig, to me it wouldn't make sense to spend more on the SteveG shaft as he would have the same issue unless he tried raising the puck with the top cam lock. Dimensions are nearly the same from grip to mount. While I was at this I merely pointed out some minor troubling observations. One thing I like about the XP stock shaft is the trapezoid, that and the scale engraved on the lower. Great design in concept, not particularly in materials. I'm not familiar with the Anderson offering other than I know it is expensive. Seems like an equally good option. I'm glad he was able to lighten it a bit, everything helps. My two main detectors both have SteveG creations, and both of my sand scoops have his CF shaft offerings. I am a fan as well! 👍
  8. I can see where that might be a problem. ðŸŦĪ As much as I love the SteveG carbon fiber shaft, it appears that his handle and mount are nearly identical to the XP shaft, and it's not much lighter as I recall. However it is a lot less flexible, and provides an option to route the waveguide cable through the shaft albeit not perfectly: The waveguide exits the shaft below the top cam lock, thus limiting the amount you can shorten the shaft for storage. Additionally the shaft is round so you have to set it on the floor when extending it to get proper alignment with the handle. There is an option you may not have considered that might be helpful: The top cam lock allows the remote to be raised higher over the grip, but shortens the overall shaft length. If you're tall as well this might be an issue but I'm 6'1" and there is still plenty of room to extend the shaft for me. That would solve your problem without expense. SteveG's lower is a bit longer than the XP lower. ðŸĪ”
  9. I get out detecting at least 2 times a week, and up to several. Of all the detectors I've had, the built in pinpointer is as good as the coil size, that's not good enough for me. When hunting I want to make the most of my time, so retrieval speed is a major factor. When relic hunting I generally bring two pinpointers, one that discriminates and the one I use to initially locate the target. They both have some sort of tip protection, I am not aware of any loss of detection or discrimination capability. Sand scoops make short work on the beach. A tip protector is the same as a coil cover to me, why not have an additional disposable layer on a fairly expensive device? If you put it up for sale later, for sure the protected one will sell faster and for more money. ðŸĪ”
  10. Update on the token, identified. 1943. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/exonumia41323.html They say composition is steel but this one seems more like bronze.
  11. Yikes, not for me for sure! Heck I pass on some deep targets on the beach because I draw the line at 6 scoops. 😀 There is one permission it might be useful, maybe two, but I think the farmer would take issue with craters, and the water table here can be too close for comfort. ðŸŦĪ Are the memorials id'ing around 90 still? All I got was Zincolns today. ðŸĪŽ
  12. Do you think they will have to fix 2.0 for everything, or could they just update (fix) the WS-6? I'm not familiar with XP history but can dream... 😏
  13. This post is in response to Chase's request that I test out magnetic reject/accept on the D2 in Beach Sensitive mode. It's the only program I use, heavily modified. Hit my larger local beach today, great day for detecting. Didn't get there too early and it really didn't matter being Wednesday and I was the only one detecting. I had low expectations but did manage to get there at low tide. Took one for the team wearing sandals so I could go in the water and see if the program "howled" or acted odd in the water. This beach has lots of sharp pebbles that are a nightmare for an old geezer with a touch of foot neuropathy. There were lots of tiny jellyfish but I didn't get stung, just prayed one wouldn't get caught in my sandal. Remember I'm not an expert by any means, but I do get out a lot and there's a small motel here but it's not a Holiday Inn Express. 😏 First thing I noticed is they may have tweaked up IDs because Zincolns are 84-85 again. They were coming in at 82-83 in V1.1 which I kinda liked. I didn't find any memorials this trip so I don't know if they are still hitting 90. Dimes are still 88-90 and quarters 90-94, nickels are still 61-62. 👍 The first target I dug was a Zincoln that was over 10" deep. The 13" coil hits stuff really deep, I sometimes joke with the other detectorists saying I'm there to find the stuff they missed, it's kinda not a joke. 🙄 I had the magnetic setting on accept at first, which is my go to setting. No difference at all in the water, and pretty quiet on dry sand. It blips a little but it's not any different than V1.1. Hits hard on iron and anything else, it's like it sees past the minerals. Turn it to "Reject", and lots of stuff disappears. All in all the D2 performed flawlessly, I even turned sensitivity down to 87 and still it hit hard on deep targets with a lot less iron wrap. I got a lot of fresh drops today but there were plenty of deep targets, and water hunting was the same as it has been. Just a tiny bit of trash, the dinosaur holding the gold pull tab was an inside joke with my buddies. 😀 I ended up with 2 dinosaurs for the day, the tiny one may be silver: And as usual I find some sort of relic near these palm trees where I've found some old coins and other stuff: This 1940s-50s Washington DC token. Not a bad day at all. Some things "feel" a bit different, but another thing I noticed is that not once did my pinpointer fail to connect. Overall this is a small step forward for me and I'm glad I updated. 👍
  14. I'll take a look at this for you, I have all of the above, just need to find a minute to test it. My hands are large, but yours must be huge if you're having issues with the WS-6 Master. ðŸĪ”
  15. Too hot to get out there today, but I'll hit my tiny test beach tomorrow and post results in your thread. It concerns me because it was literally the difference between silver/no silver on the big beach recently but that might be a coincidence. ðŸĪ” On the WS6 it was quiet in V1.1, but for small "pips" presumably from my cell phone searching for a signal. In V2 it's a very goblin like howl, perfect for Halloween 🎃, interspersed with "26" IDs. In Beach Sensitive particularly, pinpointer did not work on either version. We now have 3 corroborating instances of that.
  16. It got so I had to routinely scoop at least 5 times before I got to anything, saw you had the same "problem" 😀
  17. Nice one Rattlehead! TBH I kinda skipped to the wrap up, but the Starship D2 is a riot. ðŸĪĢ I see you were on North Myrtle, that's the best place near the hotels. I hunted South Beach by the campgrounds and got tons of deep stuff others missed last spring.
  18. I understand your concern but nothing posted previously really is an issue unless you're using the WS-6 Master rig or plan to use magnetic accept instead of reject like I was doing. ðŸĪ” I have not tested that on the D2 remote yet. Jeff's tests show that gold detection is improved, I think that prospect (pun intended) is a mitigating factor for upgrading. 🙂 Most people use the WS6 Master for relic hunting, I'm surprised I'm the only kook that uses it at the beach ðŸĪŠ No reports of any issues with the remote so far! ðŸĪž
  19. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Jeff. 🙂 I'm surprised at the separation I see with it even at lower reactivity, yeah it may not be great in a stubble field but it's pretty awesome everywhere else and hits insanely deep on dimes and quarters on the beach with little to no change in ID. I've been saying all along the D2 with SteveG's shaft and the 13" is lighter than a Nox 600 with a 10x5. ðŸĪĢ Just curious, what IDs did you get on your dimes? I usually get 88-90 even on the really deep ones (clad)
  20. It didn't work on WS6 Master in V1.1 either in Beach Sensitive. Just thought it was my waveguide. 😏 You get the graphic but no sound. Guess we're going to see V2.1 soon!
  21. Took my WS6 Master out for some beach fun with V2.0 today, my beach program acted a little differently. Could be conditions but magnetic reject/accept, which quieted the black sand and possibly other materials in the water now makes no difference in either setting, and the detector now makes a lot more noise in the water using Beach sensitive, showing a sporadic 26. ðŸĪŽ It was quiet on the dry beach as usual.
  22. I do, on all of them. Harder to get dirt out of scratches than rinsing it off vinyl for one. Always clean my stuff after a hunt. The MI-6 in particular has "thin skin", it might be rugged but I've seen too many replacement shells for comfort. I do agree that the Carrot is tough, but see above. Quest pointers come with them so that was easy. I think the Fisher came with one too.
  23. ID accuracy is one major plus. Tonal accuracy is parallel. Weight, versatility, packability, control over just about everything you can think of and some you didn't, fairly decent coil choice (seems they've been watching us here so hope that 10x5 is on the way 😁), even somewhat configurable displays for target ID size. Who else gives you 2 detectors in one box? You will find only a few who have had it for a long time that don't reach for it first despite its flaws ðŸĪ” Like the Cap'n I really loved my Equinox but this is a whole new level. It is hands down the best new multi purpose machine out there, and it's getting better all the time. I use the xy screen to put the target ID in the upper left corner so glare doesn't obliterate it. The graph helps sometimes but it's the tones that really tell the story. I know a long time detectorist and inventor who is really getting a kick out of his. 😏
  24. Cheap air horn during hunting seasons, Glock 30s, and trusty Predator Shovel relic hunting. Best to just stay out of the woods in the summer, and the poison ivy can get you all year. Deer during rut, coyotes, ticks. Some new disease from the Lone Star ticks in VA this year, and Lyme from the nymphs. Odd that the smallest things are the most common and dangerous. ðŸĪ” On the beach the sand scoop looks menacing enough, but I always have some sort of Pb expelling device there too, although lately it's been composites of poly/copper. Higher velocity and fragmentation benefit. Even at the beach the smaller predators are most common. 😁 I hope someday we will get wireless bone phones for better situational awareness, but WSA IIs are ok. The wired set on the D2 is great, but not in field hunting for the most part.
  25. Updated mine this morning, both the WS6 Master and the D2 remote, as well as 2 pairs of WSA II headphones. 😀 I don't see any reason to wait, and they may have fixed other stuff they didn't mention. It was a tiny bit fiddly due to my tiny laptop downloading Windows 11 updates (ðŸ˜ĩ), but after a couple restarts with a couple of devices, it's all done. ðŸĨģ reprogrammed my programs. Don't forget to turn audio volumes up for what you use and down for devices you're not using, and save your pinpointer settings again! It will connect but at default values. One thing I noticed already, and it is not in the change notes, is that my older MI-6 which wouldn't connect well with either the WS6 or D2 previously is connecting ok now with the WS6. ðŸĪ”
