  1. I have the 9", 11", and 13x11". I bought the 11" because the 13x11 was not out. A week later one became available and I bought it. I'm glad I did. I have not taken the 13x11" coil off my Deus 2 since I got it for the most part. Now that the WS6 can have almost all the same settings as the D2 remote, the 9" resides permanently on my original XP shaft with the WS6, and the 13" on my SteveG CF shaft with the D2 remote. Most of the year I have the waveguides attached, but take them off when I'm going to be in the field. I use the 13" everywhere, the beach and fields and campgrounds I hunt. I've used it in the water but prefer the 9" for that, and I have rigged up a waveguide to the WS6. If I plan on going submerged in water I'll use the 13". I agree with Jeff that the pinpoint isn't all that great, but by X'ing with the coil I can pretty much nail the target, if off center it is either iron or aluminum. The 9" is faster for retrieval but the 13" goes a bit deeper and covers more ground quickly. Its ability to find even small targets is fine. About the only thing it isn't great in is field stubble, but neither is the 11". I did some comparisons between all 3, and also weighed them against my Equinox 600 with a 10x5" coil. The SteveG rig with the 13" is just a bit lighter! The WS6 Master setup is insanely light. It only took a short time to get used to the 13", but I recommend a carbon fiber shaft to use it with. Get spare bolts, you will break them occasionally. I keep them in my finds bag. The coil's off center mount is not optimum for stability. I tried centering devices but broke more bolts. It will flop a bit, but I'm so used to it now it's no big deal. I do not regret buying the 13x11 at all, and really don't regret buying the 11", but it's kinda a "case queen". I keep it charged and bring it on trips in case something goes wrong with one of the other 2.
  2. Great find, SS. 👍 would like to have seen the "before" pic. I don't dig much iron but I'll take a look at that rust remover. Thanks!
  3. Photo of the face is on a professional website, guy from a university in Florida, yet the detector location is Arizona. 🤔
  4. There wasn't much beach erosion, but my beach program functioned well using it in the WS6 Master update. Low tide was higher than the highest tide I've seen here, I stepped off the bottom step right into the wash. Imagine a 4 foot surge above this. 😬 Yesterday I would have stepped in the water 4 feet higher with 3-5 foot waves above that. Bottom step of the stairs indicated about a foot of sand moved away from it, this step was nearly level with the beach last week. Didn't get to do much but I did find some stuff, one piece of iron and these two toasted copper memorials: Both were pretty deep under 6" of water and one was under a rock. The WS6 acted like the remote, pretty much no difference with the same settings. I was happy with finding them, and everything worked well except that pinpoint on the WS6 wasn't very loud. The headphones were turned up all the way with audio at 9, and I could barely hear pinpoint when I turned it on. I don't use it much anyway but that was odd.
  5. Heh, yeah, a 4' storm surge might not be a big deal some places but my little beach would be completely inundated to the rip rap (large rock wall) with 5' waves on top of it. 😀 When I had large boats I had to get them out of the covered marina slip and tie them outside to keep them from being crushed when the Potomac comes a-calling. 😬 Once had to do it at 11pm in 70mph winds, Arrrrr! 🤣 River rose 3 feet in no time. I "land yacht" now. 😏 Gets me to better beaches. I'll be checking on my beach early, no worries there, but after the rain and surge subside. Won't throw myself on the good graces of the local sea rescue or the Coast Guard. 😁
  6. Outstanding. 👍 is that ring stone emerald or Tourmaline? 10k indicates the latter but one can hope. Heck of a hunt, guess you had to remove all that iron to get stuff and set yourself up for the future. 🤔 that's a lot of digging. Cool you got some interesting older coins as well. It's often tough to find the individual that lost the dog tag, sand it looks like an older one. It has the "Tooth cut". You'll probably never find Violetta... 🤣 I'm currently held hostage by TS Ophelia, I'm hoping it will expose some older stuff for me by tomorrow.
  7. I only had one custom program and it was still there. Process went smoothly and pinpointer works now. My custom program is based on Beach Sensitive, the pinpointer button would turn on the display but no sound from V1.1 on. Additionally I didn't have to update anything else.
  8. Just updated my WS6 Master, and it did not erase my custom program. 🥳 It's called V2.00 SPECIAL. Pinpoint is working, but I'll have to wait until Sunday to take it to the beach. Ophelia is just about here. Hoping for some beach erosion. Thanks XP! 👍
  9. It's there any difficulty getting scoops from Ukraine? CooB makes both stainless and titanium, and despite their current situation I see them for sale everywhere, and recent reviews. 🤔 Amazon has them as well as eBay world wide I believe, and they offer CF or stainless shafts as well. Rugged stuff if you can get it. Here's a suggestion I made to another member who has big hands and finds the remote too close to the handgrip: Try raising the remote by loosening the top cam lock directly under it. It will shorten the overall shaft length but there should be enough in the lower to compensate.
  10. Thanks for the heads up Slyworld, appreciate you dropping in. 👍 Most people are reluctant enough to update, let alone go through a second process. So we can just update the WS6 and do not need to update headphones and other things?
  11. I've never really used nor trusted the D2 pinpoint button in the water, too many variables. I always try to get the targets out on the dry or sift the scoop clean. I use either the 13" or the 9" in the water with the WS6, 13" on the D2. The big coil requires a big scoop, I use a CooB V10 in the more rocky or pebbly wash, 2mm stainless is pretty tough. My other scoop is smaller and 1.5mm Titanium. It cost so much I generally use it only in the fine sand with the 9". Carbon fiber is really light and tough, SteveG seals both ends and puts a really nice grip on one end. I'm sure you can find a Euro vendor that will custom fit one or you can sand/tape it yourself to reach the right diameter. I've only had my CF shafts for one season so I can't vouch for the long term. 🤔
  12. Sure can, the most common and really best pinpointer is the legendary "Garrett Carrot": https://www.amazon.com/Garrett-1140900-Pro-Pointer-Waterproof-Pinpointing/dp/B00TADH9HA That's just an Amazon listing to show you what it looks like, but if you have a local detector shop you can check it out. 🙂 great one to start with.
  13. Welcome to the forum. What detector did you buy? Your introduction caught my eye and reminded me of the British series "Detectorists", where they correct people that call us "Metal Detectors" 🤣 We are "Detectorists". I personally like being called a "Treasure Hunter" by attractive moms on the beach explaining what I'm doing to the kids. 😎 Looking forward to your questions and experiences. Read the manual that comes with your new purchase fully, even if you don't understand some of it, you'll find it makes sense later. Read it again later too. Look at websites that show the laws where you plan to detect, other than your own property and most beaches you need permission to swing that thing! Fines and prison time are not fun. The most important thing is getting out there and learning your machine, we can help if you have questions. Good luck. 🍀
  14. Nice additions Cap'n, and sorry you lost your Park Probe, lost mine recently but found it under some stuff in my RV. If you have a tool belt, I strongly recommend this rather pricey scabbard for your next one: https://www.amazon.com/Occidental-Leather-5032-Tapered-Holster/dp/B000KL56FS It oozes cool. 😎 Sent one to @kac, not sure he uses it with the longer version but it should hold it just the same. I was one of the field trial recipients and was so grateful I thought I'd recompense. It is intended for an "Ironworkers Bull pin", whatever that is, and I imagine there are other sizes but this one is perfect for the original Park Probe.
  15. Nice hunt Sinclair, looks like you have a few Lord of the Rings fans in that area. Might be a cult. 😏 I have had the very same issues, broke my scoop once and also occasionally the targets "disappear" after scooping, it has happened both in the dry and wet. First remedy was to buy a SteveG carbon fiber shaft for my scoop. 😀 If you're going to do a lot of water hunting I highly recommend this. The second problem i have two solutions for, in the dry I whip out the trusty MI-6 and search after saying "huh" 🤔 and usually find it. In the wet or water I scoop like mad and chuck it all in a spot the water won't be touching, and search for it there and in the water. I draw the line at no more than 6 scoops though. I believe it has to do with the target turning sideways or some other position that changes its phase, or it's so small it just disappears deeper in the hole. There is a third but not very desirable option, that is to move on and forget about it if I don't find it. 😁 Just wanted you to know that you are not alone with this. It's annoying but I don't want to waste a lot of time on one thing when I can be retrieving many. I doubt there will be a fix for it. Fun fact for you: Your handle here makes me think of the first computer I ever programmed, the Timex Sinclair. https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/search/object/nmah_334354 It ran BASIC. Earlier than that was the Sinclair Oil gas station dinosaur, I had the piggy bank. 😀 Yeah, I'm old. 😎
  16. Isn't this button also called the Indian Wars button? It's not a Horstmann or Waterbury. 🤔 Found some info: The Steele and Johnson Manufacturing Company was established as the Waterbury Jewell Company in 1851 and soon changed its name to the Steele and Johnson Button Company. In 1865 the company established its New York store, and in 1875 this manufacturer of brass buttons and various metal goods changed its name to the Steele and Johnson Manufacturing Company. Steele and Johnson produced and sold items primarily to brass companies and other businesses in Connecticut and Massachusetts, with customers in New York, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, and California. During World War I it produced goods for the army and the government.
  17. Fantastic button JCR, and that zipper pull must be an early one. 👍
  18. Looks like a bent earwax scoop cobbled to a jewelry submachine gun by a kid 🤔 One of those funny finds... Pickuns nailed it tho. What I described might have been a prototype. 😁
  19. Thanks, these are pretty mundane hunts but I always seem to find something interesting. Yeah I know a few bikers myself, it's a wild time. I'll probably go early weather permitting. Probably not a good idea to go while they are there. I'm sure it will attract others afterward! Today The Naval Warfare guys were testing something new, explosions were setting off car alarms. 😵
  20. Thanks RVP, It's kind of a tough place to hunt, sharp pebbles and red sand on the beach, river sand is fine white silica. Shane they bring crap in to replenish. Sandals and barefoot are out! Also some black sand in the water, after severe erosion there are black strips everywhere. It's a challenge but with suggestions from people on the forum I'm pretty sure I'm not missing anything. 🙂
  21. Thanks! I was telling a buddy that if there was anything really good there I probably would have found it. 😀 for sure I'm hitting the small stuff hard, could be a number of reasons for that. I'm pretty pleased with my beach program, just not happy that I'm not finding gold. I want to get in the water but still too many jellyfish. Too warm still for my waders. 🤬
  22. I just buy cheap ones from Home Depot, generally only use one detecting. If you go that route try not to get pads with metallic hardware, and always cross the straps in an X so they won't slip. 🙂Two strap pads are better than single strap.
  23. Nor have I, to date I've found a Spanish 8 Maravedis, a Cuban nickel, an old bus token and at least 2 silver mercs, one on the high beach and one in the water. Now this. 😀 Junk jewelry is almost all I ever find here, no major hotel chains, or wealthy clientele. It's a funky little town, and there's a gambling house on the water because it's in another state. 🤣 Probably comes up as the only beach anywhere around. I've found about 5 tungsten rings here! Big Biker festival next weekend, they're gonna trash the place. 😬
  24. Rainy morning here in the Mid Atlantic, but I timed it perfectly so I would miss the rain. It was 64 when I got there, but the sun came out later and it was perfect for detecting. Targets were hot from the rain. V2 is no different for me than the earlier version, they didn't change anything or much, yay. Today I tried lowering sensitivity to 87, and found iron wrapped less. It still hit coins at 10" at least. There were no events at this beach last weekend, so I didn't expect much, and really didn't expect to be the only one there all day. The tide got extremely low from the wind, so all the right things happened. It was also a bit sanded out by the wind from Lee. Didn't dig much trash, just the usual junk and annoying .22 short bullet shells that are everywhere here. Here's the haul, 6 earrings, one pair. Unfortunately none are silver or gold. I even got more copper memorials than Zincolns! 8-7. 🥳 I found the first tiny butterfly with the clasp on it, so I was pretty sure I'd find the pair, and I was right. Got at least one of every coin, so I wasn't missing anything for sure. Best find of the day was a 64, it was just too solid and clean for a pull tab: Moroccan 1 Dirham, worth about 10 cents US. It's at least 2002, and features Mohammed VI on the obverse. Exactly the same size as a US quarter, and made of copper/nickel. Parts of Morocco were destroyed recently by earthquakes, so it's kinda ironic to find a coin from there, never seen one. I find the strangest stuff at this beach. 🤔
  25. Pennsylvania National Guard staff button. 👍🙂 I thought it was NC too.
