  1. This forum. Robs forum. Steve has a lot of great archived articles too. The ICMJ magazine is fantastic. Not sure where your located, but maybe find a group to go with...in NoCal, I recomend the Goldhounds and AMRA. Good luck,& your bros boss sounds like a great guy!
  2. Good luck Scott! Looking forward to your report when you get back.
  3. AjR..everytime I read your posts,I honestly feel they came from me...well except your better with words and find more gold, lol. After high school, went to community college, enrolled in the electron microscopy class. Second semester, sitting in the lab,no windows..said screw this, and quit. Enrolled in Natural resources classes next round with intentions of becoming either game warden or biologist...loved it man. Life changed that, but worked construction since then (1990) and no way could I work inside. Love watching the sunrise, seeing critters while up on a roof in a country setting. I used to live in Manteca, worked mostly in the Bay or Sac..finally moved to Calaveras county 10 years ago and seek out work in the hills...anyway,enough of my bio,lol...just saying I really relate .
  4. Permathren works!Im a damn tick magnet. Hate those nasty suckers...they jack me up! FFH ...tweakers and dope growers, thats why I carry. The areas along the American river canyon Mokelumne and Stanislaus canyon is infested with them too! Walked up on couple lld grows...last year one was right where we found an old cabin site. It was November, and harvest was over,so we hit it and my first signal was a nice wreath buckle.Honestly, thats why I wish they would legalize weed everywhere..to put the illegal grows out of business.
  5. DDDancerpost brought back a memory. I was using my gb pro with out headphones down at the creek by my house. Towards dusk,I just dug another piece of lead . For whatever reason,I was playing with the lead against the coil, making detector noise. Saw something move out of the corner of my eye...all that beeping and squeeling called in a Bobcat! Must of sounded like a wounded rabbit!
  6. Cool pics Col!! I actually like snakes,as a kid,I lived in Kansas, then Georgia, and eventuallt California. Me and some buddies would go snake catching, always had a kingsnake, ratsnake or some other harmless snake in a terrarium.
  7. Id probably just crap myself..hopefully that would work! Never seen a grizzly untill we went to Yellowstone last year...and I know I dont want to face one in the wild! Good luck man,I use the rattler headphones all the time, they help, bit I concentrate on signals so much, that I often dont pay attention to the sounds around me
  8. Heck yeah!! Thats a great feeling! Good job!!
  9. Man,you know your on a hot streak when the critters are helping you out!Fantastic buckle dude!!!
  10. I agree...this is an excellent forum. And thanks Steve for giving thorough/informative responses and post...same goes for all the participants here!
  11. Yeah, good idea...Ill post the AMRA outings and such.
  12. Thanks Goldbrick,I will look into that...be worth not getting nagged by the wife, lol
  13. I have thought about this alot. Your supposed to stay calm, not exert yourself...but Im usually miles away in a real huff n puff canyon...the blood is going to pump! This last incedant was the exception...was 50 yards from hwy 49.
  14. Wasps and hornets are my enemy...hate those little bastards! What purpose do they serve, besides stinging the crap out of me?
  15. FFH..Im at a taco truck, trying to eat a burrito, and you talk about eating snake eggs...GROSS!...LOL! Thanks for taking away tbe apetite!
  16. I had my gaters on TVanwho. Dont usually kill em.
  17. Good write up FFH! My craziest encounter...was fishing Hogan Lake with my son. Sun was setting, hiked up a hill tochange glasses. Heard what I assumed was a rabbit coming down the dry grass toward me..mthats when a big 4 footer landed nearly at my feet! Seems he caught some speed coming down on the slick, dry grass.
  18. Your absolutely right,Fredmason! Yeah, ours are usuallt pretty docile...not like the diamondbacks Ive encountered in Az...those guys are downright mean, lol. Funny, know your not supposed to run,but when it went off, flight instinct took over!
  19. Ken about summed it up,thanks! We only have one type around me,the Northern Pacific Rattlesnake. They come in all sorts of flavors...seen em blonde, brown, dark brown, grey. I actually like snakes, grew up catching them as a kid, even a couple rattlers. But Ive had so many close calls with them, and my eyesight sure aint what it was,now Im close to calling war on them, lol.
  20. Wow Spencer, sandalls? Your tougher than me man, lol. Heck, besides the snake, look at all the poison oak in the pic.
  21. Dang! Heck of a haul! As an aside to your aside,lol...I just bought an f19...so will be selling my gb pro with 5x10 coil ..for $350. I honestly cant tell any difference in performance to the f19. Ill post in classifieds tonight. Ray
