  1. Not lately Tom.Why did you leave a few out there for the rest of us?
  2. Thanks for the honorable mention Bob! That's an interesting old piece of iron and you may be correct about it being a stirrup.Too bad that after digging it and rechecking the hole you didn't find your first gold coin lying a few inches below it.That would have made an instant career iron digger out of you for certain.
  3. I hear you 350.....I just carry a burlap gunny sack for all of the junk iron and cans horseshoes etc.I have become very cautious about being a flinger in these times or creating leaver-rite piles to tip off other people because there is no use advertising. I spent six hours the day after Cristmas digging mostly iron and a multitude of other junk targets at a site that had early occupation 1820's thru the 1870's but unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it was heavily polluted by a second occpation in the 1930's.It was a lot of work but payed off with a few very nice early period iron relics and other artifacts. Will be heading back in a few days after the weather breaks with the d2 using the modified relic and goldfield programs {like the IAR disc} will probably do a post at some point? Good hunting to you and Happy New Year! Doc '
  4. Good stuff Compass! Just goes to show that there are always work arounds and more than one way to skin a cat.
  5. They are probably waiting for things to calm down.Otherwise it's a surefire way to go see Jesus.☠️
  6. Take my word for it Mr.Bob and I absolutely mean no disrespect because you have paid your dues and then some and have done extraordinary well. But coming from an old and longtime iron hunter and diggers perspective and judging by the types and age of the sites that you hunt and the incredibly early finds that you have made. You would probably be shocked by what you have passed up....But as you probably know by now I am opionionated and by no means always right.
  7. Fair question midalake. For me personally and types of hunting and tight situations that I get myself into it's not so much about the actual diameter of the avalible coils as much that it is the shape. No it's not April fools day!
  8. Welcome from Northern Cal.Very good choice on the 700...Best of luck and look forward to seeing some relics? Coins?
  9. All good points that you make there Timmysys. There are a whole lot of us around the planet that would jump on a smalley right from the git go.And yup you can bet the farm that would include a whole bunch of the naysayers from this forum and others who thumb their noses at it. And XP knows it just from past and continuing sales of the d1 elliptical.
  10. That site looks like it could have been used on the set of an Alberto Grimaldi film like The Good The Bad And The Ugly or For A Few Dollars More for instance.Freaking unreal!
  11. Be careful there Bob it's starting to look a little like you might be getting a monkey on your back and developing an addiction to the hobby? Lord knows that you wouldn't want to have go through that brutal twelve step program to break the habit.Haha and all kidding aside I don't know squat about the early coinage that you guys are finding back east but that one looks like a real rarity.Heck I would be thrilled with the baseball medallion.Nice work!
  12. I'm a natural born skeptic it's an affliction.I am also still on the fence so to speak about the July 20th 1969 landing. That said I would not be at all shocked if whomever is the first person to metal detect on the moon didn't uncover a pesky pull tab👽
  13. Very well said GBA...I appreciate your vast knowledge not only about coins in paticular but bottles and relics as well.
  14. I think that you will really like your deus1 gopher. You might want too stick with the factory programs for awhile until you get the hang of it.I would recommend using the fast program in the sites with a lot of nails but don't be afraid to experiment with the reactivity and sensitivity settings. The lower reactivity that you can get by with the better as far as depth is concerned and change it often raise it up in the really thick iron and lower it accordingly in the cleaner ground thats important. The same goes for the sensitivity {gain} the higher that you can run it the better but you won't be doing yourself any favors by running it way high in the heavy iron.just like the reactivity raise and lower and change it often according to the conditions.I would also recommend that you insert Calabash Diggers Relic Program into one of your slots. It's based off of the fast program with pitch tones and really helped me a lot when I got my d1 and I still use his program on occasion with a couple of tweaks. Also did you happen to get the HF elliptical or white round coil with your unit? They are both very useful.Best of luck with your deus and at some point in the future you will probably want to get yourself a d2. Doc
  15. That's a great coin. However my favorite would be the iron on any day.
  16. Dang, you must have trouble sleeping at night, when you have a virgin honey hole, like that one waiting for you when you get up in the mornin.😎
  17. With all due respect midalake probably nothing if ones primary detecting focus is beach hunting.
  18. That coil has helped me immensely in a number of applications hence my more than sparse and continued use of the d1. I use it almost exclusively to navigate through a virtual sea of thick star thistles that have invaded a number of the sites that I hunt here in North Western California. Then there is the brush as you mentioned and rock-piles too.The 9 inch round coils are rendered pretty much useless in some of these situations and forget about the 11x13.
  19. Wow that's a great looking site that you could probably never hunt completely out.The hexagon pieces look like trade tokens at a glance?Congrats on the SLQ in my opinion they are one of the more beautiful coins ever minted here in the USA.And tough to come by for a lot of us as well.Personally I have found many more seated and barber quarters than standing liberties and that seems to be the case for a lot of other diggers that I have known through the years.Good hunting at your new permission and looking forward to seeing no doubt many more good finds. Doc.
  20. XP was well aware of what their customers would want and what we would need as well of what the demand would be for the small coils far in advance of the d2 release. The bottom line is that they should have had one available before they offered it for sale.
  21. Good dig CPT! You have some very productive sites to hunt. You are the Token killer in my opinion, and I really like that lock plate with the elephant. Those pocket watch backs can occasionally come out of the ground completely saturated with gold gilt.I dug one last year that indeed was, just around that time of evening when it was getting to dark to dig without a light. When It came flying out of the hole I got fooled and went into panic mode for just a second, because it looked enough like a double eagle at first glance to make ones heart pound.
