  1. Another tip - try increasing the SAT along with decreasing the sensitivity as Steve suggested. Should smooth things over!
  2. We usually announce specials to our email list. You can sign up for these notifications on our website - https://www.whiteselectronics.com/newsletter-signup/
  3. I know of a ghost ranch north of town if you're interested. A very eccentric man lived out there so there might be some good stuff buried on the grounds... It's either BLM or Forest Service land and very little graffiti.
  4. The 24k performed better than the other VLF machines we tested in Brazil. But most P.I.s will outperform VLF's in mineralized ground. There is no way around that, it's just physics. In some areas the mineralization so extreme that even P.I.s struggle. Australia, Brazil, Africa, and parts of Southern Oregon are a few that come to mind. I would say it's a good plan to have both a hot P.I. and a hot VLF for maximum gold recovery. You are very lucky to have soil so mild where you live. Do you know why New Zealand has the fastest race horses in the world?
  5. Hey I used to live down that way. What are the rules/laws in LA regarding detecting? I would figure they would be pretty strict.
  6. We've been getting a lot of questions about the new XGB on our Goldmaster 24k and why it's an improvement over legacy ground tracking systems that you find on other machines. So here's some info (see attached PDF). The short answer is that lowering the gain, for example in an Auto-Gain system, is only a way to mask the problem of difficult ground. The real issue is dealing with variances, hot rocks, etc. In the coming weeks I can shoot a video showing how this provides a benefit to users, but their successes in the field speak for themselves. 7. Hey I just want to let you guys know that your feedback is heard. That is why I love my job so much. I can take customer complaints or requests and try to turn them into features on the next machine. One of the phrases that has been stuck in my head the past few months was passed along by a much wiser man than me: "You can have anything you want. But you can't have everything you want." I would say this is especially true in product design. The challenge comes in balancing what it takes to make a successful product without it falling into development purgatory and taking 15 years. Please continue communicating what you want to manufacturers, as if they hear it enough there is a much better chance they will do something about it. But the best way is to go direct - https://www.whiteselectronics.com/contact-us/
  8. Steve is a much better detector prospector than me. But hey I can make up for that with some more pics!
  9. It was nice meeting you guys as well. Steve is a stand-up guy, and his help was much appreciated! That first swarm of people in the morning was nuts with everyone trying to get a turn at swinging the new Goldmaster 24k. I took a bunch of photos, here is the lucky guy who found the nugget we hid!
  10. Got out this weekend with an old sourdough. Work first (Rye Patch Nugget Shoot) then play after. Found this little booger a few inches deep in the alkali. Hot rocks abound, but the XGB was able to help tremendously. My technique for that is find a hot rock, then slowly sweep the coil over both open ground and the rock. Within a few swings the XGB grabs both samples and that's when I hit the lock button and start swinging. Not foolproof but definitely helps you dig less mineral and more metal. For any younger guys like me, there is no substitute for putting time in with a prospector who knows more than you. The amount you can learn from them eclipses what you will learn on your own, and it is well worth it. Thanks to all on this forum for sharing their knowledge. I don't get out as much as I'd like to so it's nice to bring some gold home every once in a while.
  11. Hey Tony. The TDI's pulse delay and ground balance controls work together. On certain targets in certain ground you might find that a perfect ground balance setting diminishes the target response. This is due to the fact that at that particular setting, the ground balance point effects the machine's sensitivity to that particular target. Some people call this a "P.I. hole" or "ground balance hole." It's good to do ground testing to find out what effect it has on targets with different ground settings. One thing you can do when a target falls into the "ground balance hole" is adjust the ground balance slightly higher or lower to increase the sensitivity of the machine, or adjust the pulse delay to hit harder on that particular target.
  12. That's an old yank phrase from the gold rush days. Blokes would head to California to "see the elephant." Elephant in this case is our new gold detector, the Goldmaster 24k.
  13. Hey guys! White's Electronics will be attending the Rye Patch Nugget Shoot this weekend. We'll be donating a Goldmaster 24k as a prize at the event. Also, thanks to the team putting this on we will have a test garden at the event to demo the Goldmaster 24k. This is where you can get your hands on it, swing it over buried targets, and maybe even find some real gold! We won't be renting an airplane to skydive out of, but I may tuck and roll out of my '96 Suburban for the sake of showmanship. This event is free to the public, put on by the GPAA of Northern Nevada, Parks Department, and other groups. It's one of my favorite organized hunts in the USA. More information. Here's an idea of what the event is like (video from 2016) -
  14. That is really interesting! First pan had lots of tiny quartz in it so I will assume the clay is made up of that since it's so white. I think I will get a grout/mud mixer and haul a drill out there.
  15. I found some good gold in clay. Sticky, greasy stuff but shows promise. So I ask you old sourdoughs, what is the best way to process this material? I have been smooshing it by hand and then panning but it's not very efficient!
  16. The AF108 is a PI detector. Ships with OD green harness. Will be a great collector's item or prop for a movie!
  17. Sometimes there's enough iron in serpentine to make it jump onto my pick magnet! Might be worth a check.
  18. We ship directly to a few dealers in Australia, not just one.
  19. Here's a link: https://www.whiteselectronics.com/product/tdi-beachhunter/ Performance-wise our field testers have told us it's in between an SL and Pro. This is likely due to the hard-wired coil being more sensitive without the connector inline.
  20. There is detectable gold up the Calapooia, Quartzville Creek, and then lots down in the Grants Pass area. But there is a lot of private/claimed land and the residents of Jefferson can be strong enforcers of claim boundaries. Best bet is to do research and scouting before detecting as online info can be inaccurate sometimes, at least in my experience.
  21. I think I smell a TV show starring Gerry. Coming soon on the DIRT NETWORK...
  22. I have a couple of these printed packs. They will fit in the case with some modification. So will the super hot 16v battery pack I have. Officially White's can't endorse a 16v battery due to the increased chances of component wear and heat generated by the large caps on the board. The 18650's diameter prevents use in this waterproof case without a slight modification (2 minutes of Dremel action) on the inside of the case. This may void your warranty. The 14500's have the right size to use in a battery holder but usually come out about 750mAh. You could do 4 x 2, get 14.8 volts out of it but only have 1500 mAh. Less time to hunt than the OEM pack. All of these things are options for intrepid DIYers, but our goals were 1) release this in a timely manner before the competition 2) keep the price of the detector reasonable and 3) don't push the hardware to the point of failure. I know it's not ideal, but at the worst you can carry an extra battery in a waterproof case or baggie with your wallet/keys/phone. And at least you will still have a nice deep seeking PI before fall of 2018. This project is more of a "Huh, that's a good idea. Why wasn't this done before?" vs. making a huge engineering project out of it.
