  1. Anyone get to attend this? Sounds like it would have been very interesting!
  2. I thought about model specific icons and it can be done but it kind of turns into a where do I stop thing. I like the idea though and could do at least the most popular machines as revealed in my nugget detector survey last fall - GPZ, GPX, SDC, GB2, GBP, GMT, TDI etc. Testing.... and our favorite....
  3. I spent a good chunk of time today rounding up a new set of post icons (emoticons or smilies) for the forum today. Click on that little smily face in the editor menu and up pops some most used icons plus ones you use a lot. In the upper right there is a category button, and selecting the category button brings up the entire selection. I made the best logo set I could plus a better gold nugget icon. Enjoy!
  4. Hey Chuck, I thought nothing of the sort. I was just giving Andy a pat on the back, that's all. Plus, I hate for anyone to post and it go without comment by anyone. Never happens here. I have a copy of Andy's book on the XP DEUS, he just goes into incredible great detail. Fantastic stuff.
  5. Want to hear the funny part there? First, you are correct - good catch and I fixed the graphic. Second, I grabbed the image from White's website at http://whiteselectronics.net/pulseloops.png The original is incorrect! I actually had a Bigfoot TDI coil at one point and it was single field. I did not know the T Foot was different. I do not like inaccurate information and want none on this website if at all possible. I appreciate you pointing that out Tom
  6. I suspect that the GPZ 7000 at $9999 will have set a high water mark for pricing in consumer metal detectors. Declines in the gold price and market saturation are having their effect, as will - in my opinion - increasing competition. I would hate to be in Minelab management these days as they went through a detector bubble much like the housing bubble, and when bubbles pop business is no fun at all. Nothing but a struggle to stem declining sales and declining margins and the pain that comes along with that.
  7. I have to admit these are much more in line with the kinds of videos I like and expect to see from White's. Comparative videos nearly always come off bad if you make or sell one of the items being compared and not the other. I learned early on as a salesperson to always talk about how my product was good and never talk the competition down. People pick up on that and are turned off by it. And most detector people are kind of nerdish so like the factual info stuff. Cutsie banana videos - not so much. The second video going through lots of settings and options is particularly informative and helpful. Another one just like it on advanced settings would be good to take in what was left out in the first one. And kudos always to any manufacturer who emphasizes proper hole filling technique!
  8. The military discount if I am correct is not applied to other discounts. The military discount of 15% off minimum advertised price of $9999 has been $8499. A sale price is not regarded as a change in the official MAP price but exactly that - a sale price. If it went on sale for $8499 they would in effect just be selling it for what they have been selling it to for lots of people anyway. Then there is the fact there are dealers that bootleg them out the door far under MAP price. That practice has already undermined resale price on used GPZ detectors.
  9. AND PLEASE, NO SHOUTING! "All caps is considered shouting on the internet. Shouting is not polite. Using all capital letters in electronic communication is like shouting at someone in person. Therefore, it is bad netiquette to use all caps on the internet because shouting is not polite" Source One & Source Two Online Case Converter Tool
  10. Welcome to the forum! Sounds like gold fever to me. Best wishes and if you need help beyond Rob this is a good place to get answers. You may want to visit my Basic Nugget Detecting Tips page.
  11. Same thought crossed my mind - it would be a first in metal detectors. I doubt it. Here is an inside shot of the faceplate so you can take your guess. My guess: clear, hard plastic, like Lexan.
  12. I do love rumors but Chris, that one is doing nothing for me personally. Now if it was about the GPZ 7500......
  13. This is the only serious competition for the Bigfoot, the Tesoro Cleansweep. I had one of these for a short while on a Tesoro Silver uMax. It is a much easier coil to build as it is just an elongated DD coil and so works with any normal detector it is designed for. I understand the Bigfoot being pretty much hand made and so not something people are anxious to make. Tesoro made these however and was able to retail them for only $199. This is the coil most any company should be able to make with no problem. Sure would like one for my Racer 2! By the way, that used Bigfoot listed on eBay in my original post actually did sell for the $525 asked!!
  14. Magazine copy has to be placed far in advance and 30 day snafus are common. Andy is a really smart detectorist, great writer, and genuinely good guy.
  15. Yeah, in case nobody noticed I hosed some of the images on the forum and have spent all day fixing the mess with the help of a few of the aggrieved parties (thanks!). Now had to fix this one also.

  17. Sorry Fred, server glitch, my fault. You can go back to edit the original post and add the photos back to it if you wish. I am sorry I mucked it up as you are a good photographer.
  18. OK, this thread is for people who ARE interested in the MX Sport. The headphone connector is where it is and the production line is not going to stop now. Either accept it or move on. Detail of headphone connector protective cover when using external speaker:
  19. Yeah, I would probably just use velcro wraps and leave this in place most of the time, routed back as far as it will go on right hand side.
  20. Many people have commented that metal detectors should just be waterproof, period. The idea being not just rain protection but dirt, dust, whatever. Just hose it off. There is a lot to be said for this. It used to be you gave up many features and paid a premium for a heavier, waterproof detector. Garrett broke the mold with the AT Pro which despite its flaws was a ground breaking machine and a runaway best seller. Nothing like emulating success and you can bet everyone else wants to get in on the game. I am not 100% sold on the concept myself. One thing you get is oring seals on connectors and battery doors that must be kept meticulously clean yet attract dirt like magnets. But as long as the detector has all the features I want and will normally be used in a single configuration without a lot of coil changing, why not be waterproof also? We are not quite there yet but it appears the day is coming where everything but the cheapest machines will be at least dunk proof.
  21. Here it is. This is a prototype so screen is different and coil are different, more like Racer 1. The coil shipping with the Racer 2 will be more like that on the Nokta FORS CoRe, and screen will be different, as shown on separate pictures farther down this page.
  22. Well, my friend of many years the Fisher F75 sold yesterday, soon to be replaced by a Racer 2. Get ready to wave the checkered flag, the Racer is on! The original Racer was not enough to convince me to let the F75 go so I guess you can call this a vote of confidence on my part. The Fisher F75 now joins the long list of detectors I will look fondly back on.
  23. When I spent an entire month in Australia wandering around with good buddy Chris Ralph, we each had one of my pair of Rinos the entire time. I am pretty good at knowing where I am, but I admit one day nose down in hilly terrain, if left on my own I would have headed away from camp instead of back to it, I got totally turned around and had a hard time believing the Rino when it told me where camp was. Here is a picture of me with Jonathan Porter and my Rino clearly visible where it spent the month. I may have to invest in a new pair as my old ones have old serial ports and getting hard to use with a PC now.
