  1. I have to admit these are much more in line with the kinds of videos I like and expect to see from White's. Comparative videos nearly always come off bad if you make or sell one of the items being compared and not the other. I learned early on as a salesperson to always talk about how my product was good and never talk the competition down. People pick up on that and are turned off by it. And most detector people are kind of nerdish so like the factual info stuff. Cutsie banana videos - not so much. The second video going through lots of settings and options is particularly informative and helpful. Another one just like it on advanced settings would be good to take in what was left out in the first one. And kudos always to any manufacturer who emphasizes proper hole filling technique!
  2. The military discount if I am correct is not applied to other discounts. The military discount of 15% off minimum advertised price of $9999 has been $8499. A sale price is not regarded as a change in the official MAP price but exactly that - a sale price. If it went on sale for $8499 they would in effect just be selling it for what they have been selling it to for lots of people anyway. Then there is the fact there are dealers that bootleg them out the door far under MAP price. That practice has already undermined resale price on used GPZ detectors.
  3. AND PLEASE, NO SHOUTING! "All caps is considered shouting on the internet. Shouting is not polite. Using all capital letters in electronic communication is like shouting at someone in person. Therefore, it is bad netiquette to use all caps on the internet because shouting is not polite" Source One & Source Two Online Case Converter Tool
  4. Welcome to the forum! Sounds like gold fever to me. Best wishes and if you need help beyond Rob this is a good place to get answers. You may want to visit my Basic Nugget Detecting Tips page.
  5. Same thought crossed my mind - it would be a first in metal detectors. I doubt it. Here is an inside shot of the faceplate so you can take your guess. My guess: clear, hard plastic, like Lexan.
  6. I do love rumors but Chris, that one is doing nothing for me personally. Now if it was about the GPZ 7500......
  7. This is the only serious competition for the Bigfoot, the Tesoro Cleansweep. I had one of these for a short while on a Tesoro Silver uMax. It is a much easier coil to build as it is just an elongated DD coil and so works with any normal detector it is designed for. I understand the Bigfoot being pretty much hand made and so not something people are anxious to make. Tesoro made these however and was able to retail them for only $199. This is the coil most any company should be able to make with no problem. Sure would like one for my Racer 2! By the way, that used Bigfoot listed on eBay in my original post actually did sell for the $525 asked!!
  8. Magazine copy has to be placed far in advance and 30 day snafus are common. Andy is a really smart detectorist, great writer, and genuinely good guy.
  9. Yeah, in case nobody noticed I hosed some of the images on the forum and have spent all day fixing the mess with the help of a few of the aggrieved parties (thanks!). Now had to fix this one also.

  11. Sorry Fred, server glitch, my fault. You can go back to edit the original post and add the photos back to it if you wish. I am sorry I mucked it up as you are a good photographer.
  12. OK, this thread is for people who ARE interested in the MX Sport. The headphone connector is where it is and the production line is not going to stop now. Either accept it or move on. Detail of headphone connector protective cover when using external speaker:
  13. Yeah, I would probably just use velcro wraps and leave this in place most of the time, routed back as far as it will go on right hand side.
  14. Many people have commented that metal detectors should just be waterproof, period. The idea being not just rain protection but dirt, dust, whatever. Just hose it off. There is a lot to be said for this. It used to be you gave up many features and paid a premium for a heavier, waterproof detector. Garrett broke the mold with the AT Pro which despite its flaws was a ground breaking machine and a runaway best seller. Nothing like emulating success and you can bet everyone else wants to get in on the game. I am not 100% sold on the concept myself. One thing you get is oring seals on connectors and battery doors that must be kept meticulously clean yet attract dirt like magnets. But as long as the detector has all the features I want and will normally be used in a single configuration without a lot of coil changing, why not be waterproof also? We are not quite there yet but it appears the day is coming where everything but the cheapest machines will be at least dunk proof.
  15. Here it is. This is a prototype so screen is different and coil are different, more like Racer 1. The coil shipping with the Racer 2 will be more like that on the Nokta FORS CoRe, and screen will be different, as shown on separate pictures farther down this page.
  16. Well, my friend of many years the Fisher F75 sold yesterday, soon to be replaced by a Racer 2. Get ready to wave the checkered flag, the Racer is on! The original Racer was not enough to convince me to let the F75 go so I guess you can call this a vote of confidence on my part. The Fisher F75 now joins the long list of detectors I will look fondly back on.
  17. When I spent an entire month in Australia wandering around with good buddy Chris Ralph, we each had one of my pair of Rinos the entire time. I am pretty good at knowing where I am, but I admit one day nose down in hilly terrain, if left on my own I would have headed away from camp instead of back to it, I got totally turned around and had a hard time believing the Rino when it told me where camp was. Here is a picture of me with Jonathan Porter and my Rino clearly visible where it spent the month. I may have to invest in a new pair as my old ones have old serial ports and getting hard to use with a PC now.
  18. Well, last year this time Nokta/Makro was telling people machines like the Gold Racer would be available before the end of the year. So far they have not been willing to make that commitment for the Impact.
  19. Well, waterproof MX Sport now, or a waterproof Nokta/Makro someday. The Impact so far Nokta has refused to even commit to this year, so I would not hold my breath for that one. It is hard enough choosing from machines that exist now without throwing machines that do not exist into the mix. Racer 2 vs MX Sport kind of boils down to whether you want waterproof or not.
  20. Final product may be different but this is a prototype of the included headphone adapter. You know, the one that SDC 2300 owners had to pay $100 for after spending over $3000 on their detector.
  21. I agree the placement of the headphone connection is less than optimal. My preference would be to mirror what White's has done for good reason for decades - under the elbow next to battery access cover. I reckon it is "pod thinking". You look at the Garrett AT and what they are doing is putting the whole detector in the pod. The front is a sealed panel and for being waterproof and ease of manufacture the guts go in with cable connection and headphone connection exiting rear of pod. Then lid/control panel goes on, job done. Makes sense but it does put a 180 degree bend on headphone cable. And in case of AT the recessed access points are a true pain, although they do serve to protect the connections from harm. White's used the same pod thinking, but in this case there are wires running to battery box under arm anyway, so headphone connector could go under elbow. Maybe it is just using the same pod as used in Treasuremaster to reduce multiplicity of parts? Probably. The more machines that share parts the lower the price will be for you at retail. But if that is case the hole could have a simple plug and headphone connector still put under elbow. I do understand the engineering reasons why it got done the way it did, but engineers exist to fix customer issues, no the other way around. To be fair it has been done this way forever by others also. Look at the Fisher 1280X, CZ-20, and now CZ-21 and of course the Garrett AT models for instance. That still does not excuse it but White's is not the odd guy out here either. My Surf PI units were all that way and it bugged me. I could have the coil cable and headphone cable both point away from me, or both point towards me. Either way one was pointing in the wrong direction. I do like that it is easier to get my fingers around the connection. For dry land use I would use the headphone adapter cable that comes with machine and route to rear to plug in my own headphones. For underwater use a person would be wise to route cable back and fix in place to prevent undue repeated bending and stress on headphone cable. How it actually works
  22. Just go to your account settings and edit it just like you did when you created it. Middle of night edit while walking dog - hmmm, on Apple devices hard to single space now. Normally hold shift key and enter on normal devices. For now I edited the source in your signature to replace <p> paragraphs with <br> line breaks but that is not a great option for most folks. Will research but for now your signature is fixed.
  23. Still finding little odds and ends. For some reasons signatures got turned off during the upgrade. I have re-enabled it, but you may need to reformat. The old version of IP Board had some unapproved formatting and part of the upgrade is to bring everything into full web compliance. However, there are some things now because they are being properly displayed look broken, if that makes any sense. On the old forum you had to hit Enter twice to make a space for a new paragraph (now only once), which added code that should not be there. Now the code displays properly but the old posts have double spaces I need to clean up. Geek coding stuff. Anyway long story short you may need to reformat any existing signatures. If you see anything else missing please let me know!
  24. Nice gold, you guys are doing great. I had planned on being a snowbird and doing Arizona in the winter but truth is I am having fun being busy on other things like the forum so need the down time. Still, seeing posts like this make me think again about heading south one of these days. Maybe next winter. Now go dig more gold!
