  1. Took a trip to Nevada last week and met up with Steve and Steve. While I waited for them to show up at our meeting place I got out a few VLF metal detectors to try on some gold nuggets. Nothing conclusive here just though people would like to see how they perform. One difference between the Nevada soil and what I'm used to hunting is all the salt. All the detectors were subject to coil knock and really took some fine tuning to get them to run stable. Steve F later found that on the Deus 2 sensitive would probably be the best mode to run as it eliminates coil knock issues and is still pretty sensitive to small targets.
  2. Looks like in .7 they have added some things we have been asking for. Haven't had a chance to update yet, I'll have to give it a try this weekend.
  3. Nice bunch of finds. CW relics are some of my favorite finds. A lot of people can't get excited about digging bullets, I could dig them all day as long as there is some variety to be found. You found a nice variety of bullets. Congratulations! The carbine bullet you are referring to is a Smith carbine if I'm not mistaken.
  4. Some land owner insist on keeping everything you find. I usually don't go back to those places. Others may keep a few of your finds or none at all and are very respectful of your time spent looking. For those people I usually surprise them with a display case full of finds they can display in there home. In either case it's their property and you have to respect their decision.
  5. No I didn't do the update. I'm still on the first .6 version and I think I'll keep it there until all the potential bugs are worked out of the other versions.
  6. 1) IS GPS NECESSARY/BENEFICIAL ON A PI UNIT? No 2) IS COLOR SCREEN MORE PREFERRED? ADVANTAGES / DISADVANTAGES-Color screen isn't necessary 3) ARE YOU OK WITH AN EXTERNAL CABLE AROUND THE SHAFT? Yes 4) COILS - SIZES AND SHAPES (3 PLEASE) 10X5, 11" 14" 5) IS 10 FT WATERPROOF GOOD ENOUGH? Yes
  7. Nice report Reese. It was good meeting you down in Gold Basin. Hope to see you again. Enjoyed reading your book too.
  8. Yes we have found coins at that site. trimes, seated and cap bust half dimes, seated half dollar, seated dimes and Spanish silver. Yea dug more nails and large iron I didn't show. But I have also been surprised digging those kind of signals. Last year I dug a 2 Reales I swore was going to be iron as it was only giving a good signal one way. 17-18 one way total negative numbers at 90 degrees,
  9. I do have a Minelab Pro 35 and it will disc iron. But I'm actually OK digging iron at these sites as there are some iron targets I like finding, like cannon balls and picket pins.
  10. Thanks That's only the 3rd one I've ever dug. The EMI wasn't all that bad. Actually this site is pretty close to a road and houses.
  11. I did MK4 Overland VW High Life Stage 3 Suspension. Cost was $995, my son and I put it on. Then added bigger all terrain tires. It lifted the Beetle about 3 inches.
  12. No I didn't do the download and from what I'm hearing I'm glad I didn't. Yes I did the lift on the VW TDI and with fuel prices the way they are I'm glad I did. Now I have something that gets 40 mpg and does well on dirt roads.
  13. Thanks. Yea the Great Coat Button is one of my favorite military buttons.
  14. Thanks Tom I feel the Equinox probably could have found most of those targets. Although I have hunted over these same spots with the Equinox multiple times. Now did I miss them due to a better performing Deus 2 or did I just not swing over that particular spot with the Equinox in the past? Who knows. The Deus 1 I doubt it, the targets were too deep and I lose most coin sized stuff at about 6" with the Deus 1.
  15. Have a couple of 2 hour hunts at a Military Fort site from the late 1850's early 1860's on video. Pulling some good stuff from the iron I would like to think other machines have missed. The 11" coil is pretty deep and sensitive to small stuff, still does OK in the iron. Like all of the machines I've owned in the past, the Deus 2 is not immune to digging deep iron. Will probably figure it out better over time. Hope you enjoy
  16. Thanks, Black sand could explain your findings as I have not hunted any black sand beaches yet. I also rarely hunt in the water.
  17. First question I have is where is the beach you are hunting and does it have black sand? maybe that was covered in the other post, if so I missed it. My experience on the beach has been much different that yours and I'm at the Great Salt Lake which is mega salt. First off I agree do not use the stock beach programs they need to modified. I tend to like beach sensitive the best as it's most responsive to gold. I run the salt sensitivity as high as I can but usually that's at 7 or 8, sensitivity as high as I can which is usually 98 EMI permitting, black sand accept, reactivity at 1.5 and silencer at 0. I also prefer PWM over square audio. With those settings I'm seeing a good 2-3 inches over the Equinox. The targets I'm getting with no TID are also very easy for me to tell whether it's ferrous or non-ferrous. On the beach I only care if a target can be identified as non-ferrous, some of those big rings read like zinc pennies. For me the Deus 2 has become my preferred VLF at the beach and I've used a bunch of them. I do need to get some different headphones though as the WS-6 back phones are hard to hear over wind/waves.
  18. Nice I'm going to have to update again when I get home. That's going to be awesome!
  19. I figured that out about 2 weeks ago. That's why I'm keeping the Equinox. The Deus 2 rules in thick iron and is very impressive on salt water beaches. IMO the Equinox is hard to beat when it comes to deep coin hunting. So if you have the Equinox 800 and the Deus 2, your basis are pretty much covered.
  20. What's wrong with the park program that tops out at 24 KHz? You could change it up to match the settings on the other programs. Seems like it would be a good middle of the road range that would do better on mid conductors. The park program is one I've actually used quite a bit coin hunting. I will admit I haven't dug many nickels with the Deus 2. Almost every time I get a target that ID'S in the nickel range it turns out to be a pull tab.
  21. Well I think the most obvious solution is use the Equinox if it sounds better. No one says you have to like the Deus 2 for every application. I will tell you right now, the Equinox is my preferred detector for deep coins. Totally my opinion and I'm sure some will not agree with me. But that's ok.
