  1. Well there you have it. Good luck getting a Deus 2 on the first shipment.
  2. If it were me, and I have had both. I would opt to go straight to the Deus 2 unless you're on a budget. But it's going to depend on what you're using it for. The ORX is a very capable machine and simple to use. If you need adjustability for tough sites I would opt for the Deus. The ORX has a lot less things you can adjust on it vs the Deus. I would take the Deus just for the multiple tone options alone because I personally don't use 3 tones and I'm constantly changing my tone breaks based on the sites I hunt. Some people only use factory programs and never want to change anything and that's fine. So if you want simple get the ORX if you like to tinker with adjustments, you'll be happier with the Deus.
  3. I don't know if you can revert back to 2.77. Honestly if there was a real problem with version 2.78 don't you think Nokta Makro would resolve the issue? I tend to believe the chatty and jumpy target ID was the result of EMI more than anything. Like I said I never noticed any real issues with version 2.78. Nokta Makro detectors are a little chatty just by nature than other machines, at least all of them that I've owned.
  4. I have read where people had problems with the upgrade and the machine supposedly got more chatty, Target ID was jumpy and lost depth. I personally never experienced any of that with both Simplexes I owned and upgraded to 2.78. I no longer have either one but I thought they were very good machines when I owned them and actually found some good stuff. IMO for the price I don't think you could find a better machine with the options it has such as waterproof, wireless headphones and recharge battery.
  5. When I hunt ghost towns I use iron bias to knock out bottle caps and large tin. The Nox from my experience handles black sand just fine. Ferro check only works on shallow targets, I've never trusted it on any machine on deeper targets. I can totally agree with the switching machines too much. I too have to stop this practice and just find a few good machines and get rid of the rest.
  6. From the looks of it I don't think the Legend will replace my Nox. To me it appears and sounds like Nokta Makro made a detector that almost mimics the Nox, IMO they should have set themselves apart rather than played follow the leader. Yea the Legend is probably going to be better built, has a flashlight (which I will never use) vibration (which I personally will never use) a clock, etc. small features. The fact that the Legend doesn't have iron bias is a big factor in it not replacing the Nox. I also don't want to learn a new set of target ID's, it's already hard enough to go back and forth between the Dues and the Nox as it is. If anything I'll eventually drop the Nox in favor of the Deus 2, depending on how it performs in bad ground.
  7. It was good seeing Hugh, you definitely found more buttons than I did. Glad you wrote up this great report. Brought back memories of DIV 50 even though it was just a short time ago.
  8. Hot rocks with the Deus 1 aren't really all that hard to tell once you've encountered a few. I would assume the Deus 2 will be similar, I could be wrong.
  9. I have a feeling the Deus 2 will do just fine prospecting. Although I know of no one currently or even in the past that has worked with XP directly that is an expert gold prospector. Maybe someone has spoke up in the past and I don't recall or is just keeping quiet. XP isn't really known for their gold detectors at least in the US. Most people turn their nose up at them. The biggest issue is lack of a small 5 or 6 inch coil. I have personally hunted behind a few people using Gold monsters and Equinoxes using 6" coils with the ORX and Deus. The really tiny stuff the ORX and Deus couldn't hear with a 9" coil. One nugget we dropped out of the scoop accentually I couldn't even find on top of the ground with the ORX. That's going to be most peoples grip with the Deus 2, a small coil. For larger nuggets it's not going to be a problem. But sometimes I'm just looking for any size nugget so I don't go home empty handed.
  10. This probably the best video I've seen on the Deus 2 so far. It's worth the 45 minutes to watch it. For those that have concerns about mineralized ground, this is as close of an answer I've seen so far as to how the Deus 2 handles it. Relic mode sounds amazing. That's one I'm going to learn for sure.
  11. This has some good info and observations in the video.
  12. Yea I hope they make a 5x10 for the D2 otherwise I'm hanging onto the D1 with it's 5x10 for hunting ghost towns and gold nuggets. I asked XP about making a smaller coil and they said the chip and battery won't fit in a small coil. I doubt that has changed.
  13. I do but im probably going to cancel it. I have a friend that wants one though so I'll probably stay on the list for him. But personally it's too much like the Equinox for me to want it since I've already got an Equinox.
  14. Nice finds guys! Looks like you guys had a good time. Thanks for the video.
  15. I've got a friend that is with ring finders and he gets about 6 calls a month to find rings. One of them he found the guy gave him $500. I though about doing it but I really don't have time. He can spend upwards of 6 hours looking for a lost ring, I'd rather be doing something else myself.
  16. I've got an Apex still and have done the update. I did notice it perform better on my nail coin nail in a row scenario. But it still struggles in my mineralized soil to the point that I only use it in areas that I know have shallow spread out targets. The SMF technology on the Apex is definitely poor compared to other similar priced SMF machines currently on the market. In iron it has very erratic behavior, falses constantly and has a hard time centering on a good target. It's too bad because like was already said the Apex it a very well designed machine and has all the latest features such as rechargeable batteries and wireless headphones.
  17. That's kind of what I'm thinking, although the Legend looks like it's going to do a little better in the iron than the Equinox.
  18. It's fun to watch all the testing that's going on with the new machines. But it doesn't answer all the questions for me as to which is the best, I'm going to have to get them out and decide for myself. Everyone has their own hunt styles, sites, soil types and target types that differ from everyone else. Watching someone do a depth test in mild soil tells me nothing about my soil, which is very mineralized. Watching someone do an elevated iron and coin separation test also tells me nothing about my sites and the targets that are located in them. Yes it gives me a good idea of how machines perform as I have done the same on some of my videos. But in the end I think each person needs to decide on the features that are most important to them when making a buying decision. I don't dive or even hunt in the water much, so waterproof means nothing to me. although it is nice to have some rain protection. I also don't coin hunt parks much, so stable target ID also has little use. If I get a non-ferrous signal I dig with a full size shovel no matter what the ID is. I hunt Military relics, ghost towns, gold nuggets and do some wet sand beach hunting. Really the only things that matter to me with the new machines coming out is will they pernitrate my mineralized soil, do they have fast recovery and can I get a small coil for them. So at the moment both the Legend and the Deus 2 interest me for different reasons. But until I can get them in the sites I hunt, I'm not sure they can fully replace the detectors I currently use which are the GPX 5000 (Which I know that's not happening) the Deus 1 and the Equinox 800.
  19. At one time I was up to 10 detectors. Currently I'm down to 3 that I use consistently and 4 that I don't and will eventually sell in the Spring or use them as loaners to family members. It just gets to the point that you can't keep up with making sure all the batteries are charged and all the accessories are organized properly. The detectors I use consistently are the GPX 5000, XP Deus 1 and Equinox 800. In reserves I have a Whites XLT, Garrett Apex, Minelab eTrac and GPX 4500. The XLT is actually a good loaner for someone who has little detecting experience. I can set it up and let them go hunt without having to constantly help them with dig or don't dig signals. As for the others in reserve, I see me selling most of them in the Spring when the market for used machines gets better. Currently I have both the Legend and Deus 2 on order. One or both of those may prompt me to sell either/both of the Deus 1 and Equinox 800 since they are both out of warranty. That will of course depend on performance.
  20. I have the same question Jeff and it hasn't been completely answered for me yet. Although iffy signals video was very helpful knowing what kind of soil he has.
  21. Thanks Phrunt! I can see where this is going. Looking like the Legend is going to give the Equinox a run for the money in the separation department.
