Talked Myself Into a 25" Nugget Finder Coil
klunker replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
NOTICE TO ALL CONCERNED PARTIES! I, Klunker, am not speaking to S. Herschbach OR ddmk6. Steve is guilty of convincing me to try a huge coil and ddmk6 for loaning it to me. I would punch them both in the nose but my arm is too sore. It produced 1- 3dwt nugget out of very hammered ground. When I'm not so sore AND they apologize they will be back in my good graces. -
A Tale Of Gold, Greed, And Outlaws
klunker replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Interesting. I have seen people get stupid over a few grains of gold so I can just imagine what a boat load would do. -
I was told they actually only cost $256,000.00 each. can't wait til we get some here. Do I see "Keen" stamped on the side?

Those are just chips off the old block. Where is the old block?

1893 Pocket Hunting Treatise
klunker replied to goldbrick's topic in Rocks, Minerals, Gems & Geology
One of my goals this year is to locate some gold that is still connected to the center of the earth so your post and link are quite timely. -
Thanks. Might have to do some re-thinking. there are some areas around here that historically produced a lot of fine gold with small areas of heavy gold- always on or near serpentine. Serpentine/shale contact areas have always been some of my favorite. And the source of some of my ugly nuggets.
-
R. Chris Did your neighbors nugget have gold in contact with the serpentine? I've always suspected the possibility but have never seen it.

Chris P. will be by soon. If if using a borrowed coil I might as well use a borrowed hip stick. Would anyone like to loan me their nugget Patch? -
I can dispose of it for a modest fee. Do you have my shipping address? I think I have it's twin. I'll post a picture next time I have it out.

Talked Myself Into a 25" Nugget Finder Coil

OK. ddmk6 left me his 22" round Coiltek to try and if I'm not successful with it I AM HOLDING STEVE HERSCHBACH PERSONALLY LIABLE for my expenses and hurt feelings AND sore shoulder. -

Wimp! A huge coil might be one way to deal with 6" of snow. -

Wouldn't there be a point where the detector fails to transmit enough energy to support the coil? There are just too many obstacles here to run a big coil in this area but I always wonder what I missed by 2" -

I have put Kieths information into practice. The more I use the 705 the more I like it. I am sorry to say that DDMk6 doesn't stand a chance with his ATX. Unless we're detecting from a row boat.

Old Untouched Park Turf Found
klunker replied to Rick Watkins's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Work the heck out of your spot while you can! I found a new charger for your "friend" It's coming from Mongolia by way of Tibet on a yak pack train into China were it will be sent on a Malaysian airline. You can explain to him that coins only become more valuable with age so he should be patient. -
The site dates back to the 1860s. Middle of town. you'll see it next time your up here.
-
I went out yesterday fully intending to put Mr. Southerns information on the 705 to use but i got distracted digging nuggets with the GPX 5000. Darned pesky things, those nuggets.
-
With information like this , how can I possibly miss?! THANKS! If any of you are in my part of the country maybe I can repay the favor.

I've been doing some cleanup work at a site where two historic buildings burned early this year. What more could a detectorist ask for than a known site with lots of history, fenced, and good sized excavator. I'm not a coin hunter but another forum member here forced me to try it so I've been monkeying with a 705 ML. The damned thing works pretty good. I was able to pick out lots of bits of lead and copper, brass screws etc. but nothing even close to a coin. The only item of interest was an old wall mount brass oil lamp in very poor shape and I'm positive that if I rub it with my shirt tail a Genie will come out and grant me 3 wishes. I think I'll wish for a free cell phone, free health insurance and a check every month. I could use some advise if anyone here has experience with a 705. Or a Genie.

If you nugget hunt a real often get the 4800. Consider resale and trade in. A 4800 with a small mono coil will match the ATX on small gold ( in my opinion). I don't know of any way an ATX can be set up to match any GPX for depth. DISCLAIMER: I have only spent about 5 minutes wit the ATX. Best of luck to you whatever you decide!

Nice finds but did you find any bullets? The last time I was there I found several "corn flake nuggets". They were standing on edge in the bedrock and are nearly impossible to hear. I used a DD coil to get the threshold dead smooth and worked real slow.

Please don't mention any of this to Chris R. He would probably want to be right in the middle of it.
